Houston new traffic laws have have dropped freeway crashes from an average of 14,670 a year in 2003 and 2004, to 13,137 in 2005. That amounts to about a $65 million saving in property damages and injuries for a city cost of about $3 million.
Give credit to Houston's Safe Clear program. The idea: If you get stalled, wrecked, or have a flat, you hadn't better stay on the freeway for more than about seven minutes or you will get towed off. That really cuts down on congestion lost time too, besides the fewer accident costs.

ReplyDeleteMaybe it is just me but that law seems to make a lot sense plus save a lot of money. I have passed so many cars on the side of the freeway in the morning only to see them there at night. And all the time traffic slowing down to pass them and in many cases causing accidents.

Nice truck!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ralph, so often the jam around an accident is just caused by rubbernecking. Having 2 son's in the body business, this is bad for business.
ReplyDeleteie the hunting stamp. Nebraska does the same silly thing. They make you buy a hunting license that lets you hunt nothing. You still need to buy a bunch of stamps to put on it to make it work. Someone probably bought the VP hunting license for him, who didn't know you had to buy an upland game stamp. Silly. People here get licenses for Christmas from loved ones and of course they usually lack a stamp that would actually let them be used.
Now if only other large cities would follow their lead.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the hunting stamp nonsense. And I'm sure it was purchased for him by staff.
ReplyDeleteHe is elibible for a senior license but I don't about what other stamps it might need.
I don't think he had a senior license or the press would have told us all about that too?

ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know I finally got around to linking to your site. Sorry it took so long.
