Update from Huehuetenango

We are in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, working with the Buckner organization at an orphanage. Fifteen from our church came down, four ladies and eleven men. One fellow from Harvest Chappel in the Chicago area came also.

Yesterday they had a pinata birthday party for me and another lady whose birthday is today.

All the kids and us workers and the orphanage help came and everyone had a lot of fun!

I check my blog and e-mail whenever I can. Yesterday it was off at the hotel. I was using Mike from Chicago's laptop this morning, tonight it is the computer in the hotel lobby. There isn't any way to put pictures on and it is hard for a blog update.

Mrs. Jim's Bible craft classes are going good! In the mornings she is painting apartments for the staff and also the kitchen! There is a steady crew of four and then there are other helpers. Another fellow, Ben, and I helped this afternoon.

Three of us guys are putting in three hot water heaters and hooking them up. We have to break through concrete and cinder block walls to get to the bathrooms, etc.

Tomorrow is our last day, we leave early Friday for a 'tourist way' to Guatemala City. Then leave there early Saturday morning.

It has been so rewarding, the kids are so precious. There about 60 of them, ranging from babies to teenagers.

Pictures and our story will come next week or Sunday.

Happy Halloween, 'bout over now. These people are big on All Saint's Day, maybe I can get some about that for the blog. It is a national holiday, things will be pretty well closed down. So we will eat pizza tomorrow at noon with the kids.

  8. Happy Birthday Jim,
I read way down. It's been a while since I have been able to blog and I see I've missed plenty of stuff with you.
That's nice of you to be doing work at the orphanage. Maybe you can bring a couple of the kids home with you.
When you hook up the heaters remember HOT is on the left.
The pic of you in the Mustang makes you look, well, like a really bad guy. Maybe a biker. Mafia?
We've got about 2 days of corn picking left and then on to the field work.
    Later.

  10. Felisol, Merle, Lori, Ralph, JEL, Rachel, Raggedy, T.P: Thank you for the nice birthday wishes! I appreciate it.
Like daughter, Susie, said, "here Dad always tries to run away for his birthday and this time it is to Guatemala!"
Well, did I let it slip in a comment at Merle's? She was first, on the blog before this one.

Cliff, ditto on the BD wishes. I'm glad you are catching up. It is a good thing I don't blog every day now or you never COULD.
I sure wanted to put a couple of those kids in my suitcase. A lot of them would have liked to have come along.
Guatemala has HOT water on the right.
I looked again at my picture and it reminded me of Dad when he was thinking (except his face didn't ever get that wide).
When I met Mrs. Jim I was a biker but one of the hippie type, going from park concert to park concert. There was one under almost every tree back then!

Adios, to all the Amigos, we have been home over an hour now. I even have emptied one suitcase.
    ..
Oh yes, I have lost two or three more pounds with all the working and with a little help from Montezuma's Guatemalan friend.
