Do you eat breakfast? I'm starting.
THIS IS NOT A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION
I don't do resolutions anymore.
THIS IS NOT A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION
I don't do resolutions anymore.
Yesterday was Mrs. Jim's birthday. As a part of my new plan to eat breakfast every day I offered to make her an omlet. My omlets are pretty good, I reeled off the ingredients: eggs; ham; cheese; onion; green pepper; salsa; and for me, mushrooms.
I was headed for the pot and pan drawer on the way to the fridge. Mrs. Jim said there was just in, via e-mail, the January Newletter from the club. The restaurant was open today with a breakfast buffet and a lunch buffet.
I had wanted to take her out to dinner but always we have disastrous results on New Year's Day finding a place to eat. Everything nice seems to be closed. She said this would kill two birds with one rock if we did the breakfast buffet. And I wouldn't have to clean up the kitchen.

This was our fare: egg omlet with all that I would put in plus tomatoes, bacon, and sausage, and two kinds of cheese; a very nice fruit plate; three slices of bacon (I only eat the lean part); one sausage patty; hash browns; a biscuit and red raspberry preserves; coffee; and for dessert, a cinamin role.
For $6.95 I couldn't have cooked and paid the dishwasher for that.
I can't afford to lose 60 pounds but that is what has been claimed by eating a regular breakfast and keeping down on the fats altogether, and I already do this, but some moderate exercise.* You can Google for hundreds of other articles.**
I plan to eat cereal with skim milk and no sugar, a hard boiled egg or some ham or fish, and some fruit. Of course it has to be eaten in the morning.*** I will also eat breakfast at the club restaurant every now-and-then to reward myself on this new endeavor.
Again I would remind you,
THIS IS NOT A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION.

* "Researchers from the National Weight Control Registry, a database of more than 3,000 people who have lost at least 60 pounds and kept it off for an average of 6 years, found that eating breakfast every day was a weight control strategy for 78% of the people in the registry. People who kept off weight long-term also reported eating a low-fat diet and exercising for an hour or more each day." Mr Breakfast, Why Eat Breakfast? (link)

By golly, why didn't you say something? Happy birthday, Mrs. Jim.
ReplyDeleteMany Happy Returns to Mrs. Jim!
ReplyDeleteThat's a fine not-resolution. One that I keep myself.
Now about the Left Coast and retirement budgets...hardly connected in my book. Surely the Governator is poorly marked for party but many designations are blurred where he lives - who marries who and who receives education (public).
I'm sympathetic to persons with fixed incomes. My Hubby and I talk almost daily on how we can do the best we can now and in the future, but the rules change almost daily!
Here's to a better year in our best state of the union for all of us! Barbara
~i am a huge believer & joyous morning eater...your plate looked quite lovely...may you find the moment each morning and make way to some yummy foods...to nourishing your body this year! brightets blessings~
ReplyDeleteBreakfast is a good "not" resolution.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Mrs. Jim! =)
ReplyDeleteI've never been a breakfast eater. I knew I was doing something right all these years. ;) lol
I love breakfast, but around 10 or later. I can't do food until then. Your breakfast looks really good too. Excellent idea. I'm hoping Mrs. Jim had a wonderful birthday. I'm sure you did your part to make it very enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteHave a terrific day. Big hug. :)
$6.95??? What a great price! I have been wanting to go to a breakfast buffet for a while now but can't find anyone to drive 45 minutes to the nearest one LOL Nice find!
ReplyDeleteOk now I'm starving.... lol. Happy birthday to your wife and congrats on the decision to eat breakfast daily. I'd love to lose weight by eating breakfast each day, what a concept! Off to google my new found information!! (Thanks!)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!!
I work on the breakfast thing.. what I dont' like is on days that I do eat breakfast, I am STARVING by lunch.. what's up with that?
ReplyDeleteThat's funny, Jim. I just read that bit about breakfast (with a lean protein, complex carbs and fresh fruit) helping with weight loss. My article also said something about standardized serving sizes and calorie counts -- which yours obviously did not!
ReplyDeleteNo, I do not eat breakfast. I have never been a big breakfast person though. Happy 6WS Mr. Jim! :)
ReplyDeletehey i really really did like your new year's resoution to keep cooking breakfasts for mrs. jim every every morning
ReplyDeleteI always eat breakfast. It looks like you had a great one there.
ReplyDeleteDear Jim,
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday to Mrs. Jim.
Hope you had a great celebration.
For 7 dollars I can have one- 1- double espresso in an ordinary Norwegian coffeehouse.
I cannot think of a thing to eat that will cost so little in a restaurant.
I have like most Norwegians eaten breakfast all my life. I'm still gaining weight. It is evidently due to lack of exercise.
And love of a late night snack.
Your breakfast would cover my need for food till 3 p.m.
It's huge, man.
Have a wonderful breakfasting year.
From Felisol
Ah ... I don't do resolutions either but I do love breakfast and wish I had someone to cook it for me! Your omelet looks delicious. I had oatmeal this morning with my coffee ;-)
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
Happy late birthday to Mrs. Jim!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you in twenty-ten, reaching those goals. I plan on trying to lose weight and I find that I have to eat breakfast or I become lethargic and cannot function. The trouble is finding a healthy breakfast that is quick and easy (as trying to get three kids up and at 'em is quite a chore each day).
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you can join us again soon for LATSOF!!
Firstly, Happy Birthday to Mrs Jim!
ReplyDeleteAnd, what's that, not a resolution? Okay, I believe you! I know breakfast is important but I have so much trouble eating in the morning. I usually have oatmeal or unsweetened applesauce or something once I get to work (about two hours after waking).
Thanks for playing 6WS and best wishes with your breakfasting!
Happy Birthday to A. Great photo of K's offspring and the G parents
ReplyDeleteI've read all the way down. Interesting stuff to say the least but I guess meme's arent for me but it was fun to read. Hope your party with the SS class was fun.
We're going to go to Decatur tomorrow morning to pick up dogs for grooming.
We're preparing for the next blizzard. 8" of fluffy snow and very high winds. The high winds will be enough to close most roads here without any additional snow.
