Thursday Memes -- Things in a row -- Two Questions

.

Okay now, what color is your car? In Texas it officially would be one of these sixteen (16) colors.

Don't you just love the rows of color patches here?

I found this neat little color chart at the County Assessor and Tax Collector's office. Every station had one. The owner of a person registering his car for the first time must choose one that closest matches his or her color.
.
See what color your car officially would be in Texas. Click on the picture to make it big enough to read. Click again or whatever to make it bigger yet.

And now for my Thursday Two Questions: (See Thursday Two Questions by Poetic Shutterbug for more reading. You could also make your own by checking in at this link.)

Last week we answered questions about our learning typing (keyboarding now) and teaching the kids this skill. One reader said that if her kid's school didn't teach them then she would. Good going!

Here are the two questions for this week:

1. Using my color chart what color is/are your car(s)? What color did the window sticker call it (if you still have it or know this)?

2. How long do you keep a car and when do you trade it in?

My answers:

1. My 1950 Ford Custom Deluxe Tudor is BLACK
...the 1974 Mustang II Ghia is GREEN (major color) with a WHITE (minor color) vinyl sunroof
...the 1998 Mustang GT Convertible is BLACK (top is also black) -- this car was my retirement present to me. It was owned by a lady having 49,800 or so miles on it and was two years old. Eleven years later now it has 94,500 miles.
...the 2006 Cadillac DTS four door sedan is GRAY (window sticker called metallic something exotic)

2. We don't trade cars in. And we have NEVER purchased a NEW CAR during the thirty-nine (39) years of our marriage. When they become undependable then we go looking for a low mileage, under 20,000, three year old replacement preferably owned by a LOL (Little Old Lady).

Bonus Question: What will you do fun for Mardi Gras?
.
Mrs. Jim and I will probably rent a Red Box movie, Midnight in Paris (IMBd link). We saw it at the movie theatre and want to see it again. It lets us relive some of the times we have visited in Paris.

Here is what we might have done except Mrs. Jim said "NO" (but I like the menu):

Note: Wikipedia has all about what we call Mardi Gras. You might celebrate it? ""Mardi Gras season", and "Carnival season", in English, refer to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after Epiphany and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi gras is French for Fat Tuesday, referring to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday; in English the day is sometimes referred to as Shrove Tuesday, from the word shrive, meaning "confess." at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mardi_Gras .

Oh well, Mrs. Jim can make all this food when she wants. Her gumbo is the best anyone has ever had and there isn't any problem with her making the rest. After all, she is originally from Louisiana.

  2. We have a 2003 Red Camry. We have two vehicles, both is a Camry. When it comes to buy a new car, we'll keep the ones we have. They are paid for and work, why get rid of them? Okay, I can see letting the '87, if need be or selling it to a savage yard. The big question is, will my DH go for that? Probably not!

We don't do anything for Mardi Gras. Sorry!I do love cajun food, though.

  3. Colors in a row. I LIKE it!

We call our truck "BIG BLUE" so, yeah, our color would be BLUE. The truck is 1 1/2 tons - almost as big as a semi. Pulls our 18,000 pound trailer around.

You rode a horse to school for 2 years? Then what, tied it to a post for the day? Or did they have a field nearby or a stable?

  4. Dominque, my lime green Mustang II is offically green in Texas.

Cathy, I agree. Our cars are paid for and why get rid of them when they run good and are dependable? Besides Mrs. Jim and I are on fixed income, the value of which has gone down a lot since we retired thirteen (Mrs. Jim) and eleven (me) years ago.

Pat, I sold my truck severalyears back. A man in Texas loses something when his truck goes.
My horse, Minnie, had a stall in the school barn. It was a country two room school with grades 1-10.

  5. Hi Jim,
The sticker called my car a Pewter grey, and I think it is more bronzed grey. Looks like the cover of a netrogena powder case.
I love my car color and wonders if I would ever get tire of it. Those car shades are bright on the chart. I think pink would be my next fun car, but I would have to live in a remote area where no one can see me or make fun of me...if I had a choice. :-)

  6. 1. I have a white Mercedes E320. There are about a bazillion different colors of every color. Just saying.

    2. I keep my cars until they start nickle and diming me to pieces and then I'll trade them in for a new car.

    3. Nothing as we don't celebrate Mardi Gras.

I hate your word verification. My eyes are terrible and I've done this three times and still haven't got it right. One more time and that's it.

    Have a terrific day. :)

  7. We have two white and one black Honda CRV's! teehee

And Clark Howard said to keep them for ten years!

And we don't celebrate Mardi Gras either - lol.

    Have fun.

Have you seen that there are two word verifications now - one is easy to read but the other!

  8. Lots of color in a row! Clever chart!

My SUV is Maroon and our truck is White. We purchased our first new truck in the early 90's. Kept it for six years and traded for the truck we have now...which is going on fourteen years old. Bought my SUV used in 2006. At the price of vechiles now, I think we'll keep these until the wheels fall off!

    Nothing for mardi gras.

  9. My car is gold, but by your chart it would be considered tan. It is a 2003 Ford Taurus and I will drive it till it cost more to repair than it is worth. It is a good little car.

BTW, thanks for the elevator story, but do not worry about such things. I am 5'9" but my father and mother were both shorter; mom 5'1" and dad 5' 8" so he lied and would not stand near me. How sad. Is it really that important? A man is measured by what he stands for not how tall he stands, don't you think?

  10. Great colors, I guess my car is red.

I am At The Farm on pat's list. Thanks for stopping by.

  11. Hey Jim,

I read your comment over at Seaside Shanties. So sorry, but we've been on holiday. Please visit our blog again and tell us what you think about Abner's continued adventures.

BTW, my car is kind of a goldish Chrysler PT3.

  12. 1. My color is red-red.
    2. We've had our car since 1999. We are not trade in people. We drive it until it rusts and disintegrate :)

I don't think I"ll participate in Mardi Gras.

    Have a great weekend!
