Tin turtles for your garden. I found these at the Biltmore Hotel Garden Store in Asheville, NC, last November. I didn't check on prices but being at the hotel I imagine they were expensive for what you got. These guys are tin grasshoppers. They look more intricate than the turtles so of course they will be $$$$.
This one is a little cheaper. Free if you will come get him AND if he is still alive and we can find him. I took the picture this fall, he lives in the grass. Since grasshoppers change their colors to match the topography and it was fall he matches the dead grass.

I would add a fairy garden with a few little fairies here and there. I first discovered the fairy gardens in the Isle of Man when we were peeking in at my roots.
Besides personal fairy gardens they are placed on the side of the road. It will help your luck if you will place a note to the fairy of this garden asking for her assistance.

2. Do you like turtles and grasshoppers?
. .
I love them, especially turtles! Adi likes them too!

Last week 's post was about mushrooms and things growing in your yard. You can go back (May 10th) and check on responses. Also I wondered if your dog shared your interests.
My Two Questions for this week:
.
1. What 'pretty' things do you have in your garden or yard? Or if you don't have things now, or to update, what would you like to add?

Bonus Question: Have you eaten or would you ever turtle soup? What did you think about it if you've eaten it? If you haven't eaten turtle soup, what do you think about it?
I've eaten turtle soup a few times. It is not my favorite soup but I will place it a few notches above ox tail soup. You really have to watch the tender bones in both. The crunch if you chew them.
1. I have pink flamingos and a frog. I love them very much.
ReplyDelete2. I would love them both. Turtles more than grasshoppers. I love dragonflies too.
Bonus: I've not had turtle soup. I don't think I ever will either. Escargot fine, but turtle soup? I don't think so.
Have a terrific day. :)
You are probably right about the tin grasshoppers, they do look expensive.
ReplyDeleteI have some old tin containers placed around my garden as planters. They have a little age on them and look really pretty when the flowers are blooming.
I do like turtles and grasshoppers and butterflies, bees and most creepy crawly critters.
I've never tried turtle soup but I have had frog legs. The soup I might try if the opportunity presented itself.
Jim, thanks for your visit, however I cannot post it with a link in it. I agree with your choices.
ReplyDeleteI have a miniature water feeder of ceramic for the birds and also a much larger one.
I love turtles, frogs and fairies but don't want to try turtle soup.
Great art. I really like the grasshoppers.
ReplyDeleteI have never had turtle soup but do eat turtle meat, the water turtles. They are very tasting but difficult to remove from their shells.
Grasshoppers made good fish bait and the chickens love to eat them.
The tin turtles are cute but I bet you are right...mucho bucks!
ReplyDeleteI did not know that grasshoppers can change their color to match the surroundings. These grasshoppers are in the States or where?
I don't have a garden since I'm in a condo, but I just potted some beautiful plants in a redwood planter that has a yellow cala lily in the center surrounded by orange gerber daisies, some ivy, and alyssim.(Don't know about the spelling of any of those!)
My green thumb is all that green or maybe it's this hard, clay soil we have in East Tennessee which makes plant life difficult to thrive. It really discourages my attempts of doing much with our yard, but one day this will all change.
ReplyDeleteIn my dream house/yard, we'll have the richest top soil making flowers and grass grow so lusiously that Better Homes & Garden will beg to photograph our place. lol
I think a little fairy garden would be adorable. I would love to have a gazebo in my garden, too. Perhaps, a little garden pond as well. Oh the endless possibilities!
We have grasshoppers, but turtles and frogs I don't see too much. Skinks, we do have, though.

Hi Jim,
ReplyDeleteI like fairies too. I would love to have some fairies in my garden. It would be nice to have some butterflies too. I used to have some dragon flies, but they didn't keep well in the rain and have since faded and broke.
I like turtles better. I can see having a few as pets. Grasshoppers are fascinating to look at and there are so many different species, but I can't see having them as pets.
I have a frog collection. And I would love any - not all - of those things in my yard. sandie
ReplyDeleteThose tin turtles are so adorable!
ReplyDeleteI do not have a garden, but I think if I did I would want fairies in them, too. That's a really cute idea.
I'm not the hugest fan of grasshoppers, but I do have an admiration for turtles. Except snapping turtles. Snapping turtles are actually one of my biggest fears.
I've never even seen turtle soup. I would have to see it before I decide if I would eat it.
Those are interesting photos and nice to learn something about the grasshoppers.
ReplyDelete1. I don't have a garden, but if I do have one I'd love to have all kinds of flowers in it.
2. I don't know if I like them or not..I haven't had much experience with them up close.
3. I've never had turtle soup...not sure how I feel about it, but foods are good to try.
Have a lovely weekend!
