— Six Word Saturday — My Alphabe-Thursday — "K" — Things in a Row — Two Questions — MidWeek Blues

..
my Six Words:
Little kids like the big top

"K" is for KP, our youngest grandchild.
"K" is for KP goes to the circus.
.
This was KP's first circus. For months she had been saying, "I'm going to America to see Mimi and Papa and the CIRCUS!" KP lives in London with daughter Karen (Karen on the run) and her family.
.
KP loved it!
.
This was the Ringling Brothers, Barnum, and Bailey Circus. The best in the world was our expectation. It was a great circus but didn't quite meet our expectations. We were expecting TRAPEZE ARTISTS, DOGS WITH SOME CLOWNS, BEARS, and an old CLOWN CAR FULL OF CLOWNS. Those items came to mind as MISSING.
.
KP doesn't know that the old circus used to have these acts. Ringling Bros. might have these in another troupe, but you would think that the 4th largest city (Houston, Texas) in the United States would have at least most of these. What else was missing?

— With all our company I've used this post for several meme's.  I hope you forgive me for doing that to save on my time:
— This bottom picture of the six elephants standing with hands on the backs of the one ahead is posted here especially for  Pat's Things in a Row.    .I

— My Thursday Two Questions: (See Thursday Two Questions by Self Sagacity for more reading. You could also make your own by checking in at this link.)
..
My Two Questions for this week (you can answer just one if you wish):
..

1. What do you remember about the last time you went to the circus?

.
Before this it was the Cirque du Soleil in Quebec City.  It was free, given by the city under a freeway spaghetti bowl.  Before that it was the Moscow Circus in Moscow, Russia.  I remember that it was held inside small domed stadium.
.
2. What do you remember about your first circus?
.you
My first circus was in Fremont, Nebraska.  The eight of us in the one room school were driven with our teacher and a few parents, who were driving us in their cars.  That trip was about 35 miles from our Herman country school over to Fremont.  I do remember the Clowns exiting from their CLOWN CAR.
..
Bonus Question: What should be done to help the circus industry stay afloat financially?
..
I think the government should subsidize the circus industry.  Better circuses would help employment, help the morale of the citizens in our country, and help better educate our children.  Worst of all would be for them to fail financially and have to go out of business.  Would private industry step in and help?  I think not.
.
Next was for MidWeek Blues;

— A final six words:
Next week things will slow down
Except perhaps for dinner Monday evening with my Sunday school class,  golf and helping Mrs. Jim clean house for her next day bridge group onTuesday, my semi-annual cardio-checkout Wednesday, and a bowling party Friday.

  2. I enjoy seeing the circus for I'm fascinated with the intelligence of the animals. I love animals acts more than watching humans flying or jumping around. That creates fear in me.

I don't remember my first time seeing a circus.

Your granddaughter is cute, and looked as if she had fun.

Thanks Jim for the link, and I don't mind link like that, as it doesn't make my page go wonky!

  3. I think KP isn't too sure about those people with funny hair and painted faces! I have never been to a circus. Funny, I never thought about that before.

  4. When I saw the circus it was in Madison Square Gardens. I attended with my son's class and promised myself I would never do it with a bunch of screaming 3rd graders again. lol I remember little other than the trapeze act and my headache.

KP is adorable. I believe you had a much better time than I did.

  5. Your granddaughter is so adorable, and I'm glad you all have fun together. I love to see grandparents tenderly love their grandchildren.

Haven't been to a circus for so long, but since I have a 6 years old, that time will come soon enough for us to experience.

  6. Thanks Jim for letting me know about the link...I still can't get it right..it just won't take the URL...oh well.

My daughter was terrified of clowns at this age..as for me...I love the circus...but the hay makes me sneeze ;)

  8. Dear Jim,
Great, great pictures. I have not been to the circus from since my youth. I do enjoy the animal kingdom on TV. Thanks for sharing sir.

  10. First off, I love your photos! I've always wanted to see Ringling Brothers and they do come to Knoxville, but we have never done this. I shall definitely have to work this in somehow in 2013.

The only time I've been to the circus was when I was in grade school. I can't remember too much about it, other than some vague memories of animals and circus clowns, ballons & cotton candy. But, a sense of funness lingers on the shelves of mind and that's why I want to return to the circus someday!

    Great 'K' post!

Just making my daily blog hop rounds. I hope you'll decide to join in today's post: Krispy Kreme & Images of a Summer Night Have a good day!

  11. We haven't been to a circus before as it is not common here in Singapore.
The kids and I have watched it on television though.

  12. I've never been to a circus so I can't answer any question today.

    Have a terrific day. :)

  13. I do love Cirque de Soleil but am not a big fan of the regular circus.

    Great post, though!

    =)

  14. KP, like many small children, looks like she's a bit freaked out by the clown. I don't recall my first circus experience...but I definitely remember my more recent ones...all Cirque du Soleil, which I LOVE. I'm not so keen on the animal acts...it seems rather inhumane to me, but that's just me.

  15. I never to the circus so I don't know what I'm missing but it looks fun from the pictures you posted. although I do want to see the acrobats, that always interest me how to they stay on such thin rope.

thanks for your visit & have a great day.

  16. Hi again..thanks for stopping by. Yikes!! I saw the Natl Geo expedition that you mentioned...that's definitely NOT the way we saw Patagonia...and their expedition really only takes in a very small piece of it, almost completely missing the Chilean side.

By the way, I'm guessing you were referring to the image with the guy on his horse on the bridge...if you click on the image you'll see it's just a guy with his dog, no donkey cart! :) Have a great day!

  17. I need to take my little grandkids to the circus!

  18. You are very creative.
KP is adorable and I'm so glad she got to visit the circus.

    1. I think we went last year or earlier this year. It was interesting. I think for the kids it was more interesting. That was my only time visiting a circus.

    2. I only went once with the kids.

I think for an adult it can lose it's flair.

    3. I think anywhere with animals, we as humans have a responsibility to take care of them. If they are in the circus then we who work with them should use the finances gain in the work to take care of them and the company.

    Aloha :)

  19. Your granddaughter is adorable. How did they get to England - is it permanent? And did she like the circus? What happened to all the acts - they don't do them anymore? I don't remember my first circus. But the last one we went too - my husband got in a bad car accident - his fault!

  20. KP is a cutie. I'm not a fan of the circus.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am a big circus fan but I agree with you, they are not as good as they used to be. We saw the same Ringling Bros. show and it was lacking! I expected more with the high cost of the tickers but my grand daughter enjoyed it so I guess that is all that matters!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Those eyes are incredible. She is a very pretty girl.
I went to both, Ringling Brothers - with my boys when they were young. Cirque de Soleil in San Jose with a date, and the other one was the O Show, in Vegas.
They were all spectacular to me. I don't know how those people work so hard, so flexible, so balanced, so skillful, etc.
I would never have picked the circus to go to if it was just me. I think sharing the experience with a child is beyond words though.

  23. See clowns can bring happiness too! Enjoy!

  24. Great pics, and after KP, my favourite is the one with the elephants in a row. The last time I went to the circus was so long ago that I can't remember it. The circus comes to our local town, but we don't go. The nearest I got last time was walking into the market car park to be confronted by a tiger in a cage!

  25. She is sooooooooooo adorable!!! Great picture!! I cannot wait for my kids to get married and have kids or whichever comes first. LOL. Have you an awesome Sunday!!! hugs and kisses to KP, shakira

  27. Wow, you have a lot going on there! Fun post. I like how you it by saying you're going to slow down. Thanks for the cheering up tip you left on my blog comments. :)

  28. Hi Jim... I see you have several blogs...and that you write poems too. Mine are just simple poems, but I do enjoy writing them and sharing them!

Your little gal is sure cute. I can tell you enjoy her very much. That circus looks like fun. All of the pictures makes me want to go! I haven't been to a circus in years. I went with our first grandson when he was very young, and he will soon be 22 years old! I guess it's time to find one and go!

    Happy Saturday!

  29. KP looked tired by the end... but this is one of those memories that will last with her forever....

WOW... you are really busy.... hope you are enjoying the "Karen" visit!

  30. Beautiful little granddaughter! My Dad loved the circus, and I have many good memories of them from childhood too... like so many things "they ain't what they usede to be", sadly. I agee with you that they are an important part of our heritage and should be preserved... maybe a national circus troupe or some such. They are now sooo expensive and the extras like balloons are outrageously priced. Makes it difficult to take a family. What part did KP like best?

    ReplyDelete
  31. So glad KP had a good time, though it looks like she might be a little skeptical of people with painted faces (though who could blame her?). I like the elephants.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Glad you're enjoying being a proud grandparent Jim. She's beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think your photos are awesome. I love the last shot of the elephants.

    ReplyDelete
  34. She has the sweetest little face. The first time my parents took me to the circus back in the 50s, the elephant peed om mother- she was horrified! Don't sit too close to the ring!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lol, all for the price of one!

The only thing that I remember about my first circus is that there were lions! : )

    ReplyDelete
  36. She is adorable! But are you sure she enjoyed herself? She looks a little anxious in some of the pics.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I haven't been to the circus in probably 52 years. And I don't remember anything about it except I was afraid of the clowns.

    Sigh.

She is gorgeous! I love the look of shy innocence and fascination on her face.

Gosh. What an inKredibly sweet little girl!

Thanks for sharing her, and her outing, with us!

    A+
