The letter "T" word today was to be Trees. It still is but I didn't follow my Tree theme very closely. But they are all related.
Top Down is my first, a "T" word group. This is my little 1998 (15 years old plus) Ford Mustang GT convertible.
We used the Mustang Sunday afternoon for a Top Down ride out through the national forest here, mainly with the thought in mind to look for spring wild flowers. We did see a bunch but where we went they were not very spectacular. Our ride was circular, amounting to about 45 miles.
I saw a lot of Trees on my last golf outing a couple of weeks ago. This is one of my favorite spots, riding up the Tree lined golf cart path.
Some of the trees here are just getting their leaves, other have kept them all year like the pine trees and the oak trees. The oak trees are shedding their leaves for new greener ones now that spring has come. Also, some of the trees won't be turning green this year as they died from our drought.
This is what we call the Aunt Minnie 'desk.' Really though it is a 'writing table' (wooden, made from trees). My Dad's Aunt Minnie gave it to him when she downsized. He used in his old chicken house as his desk for his seed corn business.
Dad was a Pioneer Seed Corn dealer just before he retired from farming. His brother, Lester, had been a dealer for a long time and retired from the business as well as retiring from farming.
We don't the table it for writing or desk things. It backs onto the small couch in the living room, which backs onto the front entrance hall. So when people come to the door they are greeted by the Aunt Minnie desk.
Our entrance hall is not large, it is about ten feet wide and twelve or fourteen feet long, including the walking space to go around the little couch to get into the rest of the house. The red rug beneath the desk goes from the back of the couch to the real end of the hall. About a third shows here.
For Easter decorations we had this Easter Rabbit plant holder sitting on the Aunt Minnie writing table, desk. We have had this rabbit a long time and were have always been able to find it in time for Easter.
There are some things that we can't find, especially some of my things. That used to really bother me but I have prayed about it and the answer seems to be, 'DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE THINGS YOU CANNOT FIND.' That sounds good to me if it sounds good to God.
This is our youngest granddaughter, KP. She is taking care of her Christmas doll. I took the picture last December.
Find a "T" with this one? That might be hard, but remember the baby is a ______? [Yes, it is a Toy.]

This Christmas Tree is also KP's. Mrs. Jim found it at our Michael's or else our Hobby Lobby store. It has a weighted bottom so that it really won't tip over.
I have no idea how many times KP decorated this tree and undid it. It was a lot. She and Mrs. Jim made the deer decoration. They made about twelve of them that all came in a reindeer making kit. Probably it came from the same stores as those the tree did.
Remember to click on a picture that you want to see better of (my sister will love this sentence!).

.Now for my Thursday Two Questions.
My post last week was about "S" word things, Spam and other things "S" that make me Smile.
.
My Two Questions for this week (you can answer just one if you wish):.
1. What is your relationship with Trees?
2. What do you think about decorating for Easter? Do you decorate for it?
— We are minimal in our efforts of decorating for Easter. Leaving Easter baskets around and having some colored jelly beans usually is enough.
— Last year our church kids sold as a money making process small, about twelve feet high, lawn crosses. We bought one and used it again this year, putting it out in the front flower bed in front of the house. Around Good Friday it was suggested by the youth that we put the crosses out. Then on Easter morning we turn them around to show the words, "HE IS RISEN."
Bonus Question:
1. What is your favorite "T" word?
.

Here is a Top Down Tree picture I took yesterday coming out from mailing a letter at the Post Office. This green tree has new leaves for Spring. The bare looking tree in the back is a pecan tree which has lost its leaves for the winter. There is a small grove of pecan trees back there. I hope they didn't die because of the drought. They do not get watered as they are out in a little field.

The first poem that I ever learned was "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer:
Trees
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
Joyce Kilmer

Hi thanks for vist.
ReplyDeleteI love trees but can never decide if its spring ones with new growth or witer and just natural shape.
I normally decorate for Easter bt not this year. Thanks for visit
I adore trees, always have - and they figure a lot in my first novel. The De Clerambault Code!
ReplyDeleteLovely post, Jim. Thanks for visit and hope you enjoy my latest thriller on Kindle if you decide to download!
Always a very prolific and creative post for Alphabe and great photos ~ love the mustang and desk ~ Questions :
ReplyDeleteAm a tree hugger ~ lol ~ and enjoy its beauty and love the shade and shadows from trees
I don't decorate any more for Easter ~ am a Taoist ~ every day is a 'hol'day.
Enjoy ^_^
Just took a photo of a tree this morning that blooms yellow flowers once a year. We don't decorate for Easter, Dr Jim :)
ReplyDelete1. The trees talk to me. You could drop me in the middle of a forest and I'd find my way out. Don't ask me how, but the trees have guided me to where I've wanted to go since I was a young teen. Hubby got to watch it happen some years back and was convinced I was going the wrong way. He found that I was indeed going the right way.
ReplyDelete2. We don't decorate for Easter. I did when my son was at home, but he's in his 40s now so he can decorate for his kids.
3. Tenacity is my favorite 'T' word.
Have a fabulous day. ☺
Your granddaughter taking care of her new doll is so precious! And I love Aunt Minnie's desk!
ReplyDeleteI think trees are beauties -- but we don't have many pretty ones where I am (in my opinion) so I think back on the oaks with their moss hanging down that were the trees of my youth.
I decorated for Easter (bunnies and such) when my kids were young, but really don't anymore. I should put some out I guess, I have a whole box of Easter ceramics that I made!
Here in Georgia we have trees everywhere - you would think that there is not much civilization here - but everything - malls and homes are built deep within the trees. And hills. When we first moved here we felt like we were suffocating - because you can't see far at all - and where we were from - Chicago - was flat!
ReplyDeleteYour grand daughter is beautiful.

Lovely presentation of trees, toys and other t-words. My husband of course found the top-down "toy" quite desirable! I was thinking a drive thru the trees sounded so nice, your photos helped to remind me what trees are we don't see them in great quantity in these parts! :-) My favorite addition here is of course the little writing desk, that's a definite heirloom and you have it so nicely done and displayed, it is perfect for that spot and must surely make visitor smile when they enter! My relationship with trees... they are my friends, I've spent many an hour beneath one in a private world of my own. We rarely have company out here where we live, so our decorating is minimal, though I do take a few things into the office to brighten it up for visitors... a wreath for the door, and a small basket of treats for my desk.
ReplyDeleteI really like the old writing table, it is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved trees. I grew up in Georgia with all the pine trees. Here on the West Coast my favorite trees are the Redwoods in Northern California, we have visited them many times. I love to take photos of trees.
We usually don't decorate for Easter other than maybe a few jelly beans in a jar or some chocolate eggs in a basket.
My favorite T word at the moment is Tulip. The ones in my garden are just starting to bloom.
I enjoyed seeing all of the photos you shared for letter T.
ReplyDeleteTrees - the only reason I agreed to buy my house was because I fell in love with the two old Diorissimo pine trees that are growing in the side yard. They weren't in the best condition (too many wild wanna be arborists hacking at them over the years!), but 20 years down the line now, they are holding their own. They are the only two left in the whole neigbhorhood and I am hoping they will be around for a long long time. We also have 2 horse chestnut trees that are very old, and we have been nursing them along too. One has finally made a comeback, but it is a messy tree!!
I LOVE trees and have written many poems and taken many photos dedicated to trees. We did not and I do not decorate for Easter. When my children were small we colored and decorated eggs.
ReplyDeleteI saw your comment at Amanda's. I was wondering why I had gotten no visits and went to check and saw my link missing. I thought I was 3rd too. I remember seeing only two there and left it Weds. night. Hmmm
I hope you and your family had a great Easter!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite T word is "Thanks"..
I had to learn that poem in grade school.
ReplyDeleteTrees are always a favorite with me!
My husband would vouch for the soothingness of a top down convertible ride. He has an old Alpha Romeo Spider.
KP is sweet!
1. love trees! love looking up into them. I should also state that my back yard is filled with trees and there's 30 acres of greenspace woods behind it.
2. didn't decorate for Easter this year. I wasn't home. I do have some decorations, but my children are grown, and I'm usually visiting my daughter then because of an extra day off.
Trees - My favorite "T" word! Our last name has the word TREE in it, so I love trees. ;) I just love Aunt Minnie's "desk" and the Mustang with the top down, though I don't love riding in cars with their tops down. It's horrible what it does to my hair.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite T word is Thankful...
ReplyDeleteThe "writing Table" you have pictured is Truly amazing...
I can imagine sitting There with a warm cup of Tea Thinking about what To write for my next blog post...
This is a Terrific post filled with a Tremendous amount of T's...
Thanks for linking.
