~~ Friday’s Hunt v.3.04 -- "D" is for ...

For the week of January 27th:  (1) Starts with D; (2) Week's Favorite; and (3) Close up

(1) Starts with "D":  "D" is for dog.  This is George, a rather large pup at this time.  He belongs to the people living across the street from KP.

"D" is also for Dusk.  This is one of the little duck watering ponds along the paths where we go walking.

And finally, "D" is for DodgeDodge cars and trucks.  This one is on my 2017 Jim's Best Hardware new calendar for the February page.  The truck is a 1928 Dodge Panel Truck.

The other car, stopped ahead of us in the Car Rider Lane at KP's school this morning is also a Dodge, a fairly late model Dodge Charger (I think).  It had nice pretty sounding rumbling exhausts.

(2) Week's Favorite:  Not really favorite, likely to be the least favorite.

We had a night of nasty cold temperatures, it got down into the lower 20's.  Things looked better today because a couple of fellows cut some of the for dead-sure and hanging stuff out.  Like the fronds on the trees behind.  The oaks keep their leaves year round, the bottle brushes withstood pretty well.

(3) Close upDo you know what this is?  Sure, a bucket and three yellow hollowed out yellow rubber sponges.  But what is it for, what does it do?

Here's a purple one doing what it is meant to be doing.  To find out, click on the dark line here: ___________

(4) Some Valparaiso, Chile, pictures  from our South American cruise (L.A. California to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)(click on the picture to enlarge--click again to make it super sized):

Mrs. Jim and I and another lady hired a taxi for the afternoon (four hours) we had free in Valparaiso.  I'm posting some here so that you can get the lay of the land. Our visit was on December 21, 2016.

The highlight of our afternoon probably was a visit to the Valparaiso home of the award winning poet, Pablo Neruda (Wikipedia Link).  For an avowed communist, he had more houses than he needed, three.

I ended with Pablo Neruda's home.  It is atop the hill, looking over the harbor and out to sea.  Inspirational for some nice poetry.  Read of this world famous poet here, read more of Valparaiso here.

  2. Jim, I think my favourite is that pup. He certainly looks well fed and full of fun. I also love that own truck, much better than the new car. I didn't guess that that vase was for balloons but I thought perhaps flowers do I wasn't far wrong. I hope you have a wonderful weekend

  3. Awww, on the pup. Too cute. I love pups.

I would have never guessed what the bucket with the sponges was for. I know now though.

Have a fabulous day. My best to Mrs. Jim and KP. ☺

  4. George is a cute pup :) The pond at dusk is beautiful. Yay on Dodge, love he panel truck. We are in the 20s at night, but in southern Texas, that is cold! Neruda, like most Communists, with all his homes provides the axiom true of all Commies: Some of us are more equal than others!

  5. Great "D's", Jim! The pup is going to be a large dog I think! :-) The cars are beauties, and the yellow sponges are genius, they'd be great for holding flowers too! Your trip looks wonderful, you have been to many amazing places. I had to chuckle at the three houses for Pablo Neruda, it seems so often that ideology and actual lifestyle don't match.

  7. I think the license plate on that modern Dodge is very funny. Great pics of George, and also that balloon holder - I never would have guessed it! I hope your garden comes back after its cold spell. Ours is still covered in snow, over my knees in height, so it will be a long time before we see any green. Love the colours of the painted houses in Valparaiso.

  8. The pup is adorable. I really want a dog again. Nice image of the duck pond. Sorry to hear about the cold. The weather seems to be crazy everywhere. Fun clue/game for he close up image. Thanks for sharing the travel images. Someday, I might get to leave the farm and travel. Until then, I'll enjoy your pictures. Thanks for joining Friday's Hunt. Sorry I'm so late visiting this week.
