After the dismal and disgusting Saturday Night Live performance [see February 3 and 5th postings, "Original Airdate: February 4, 2006"] things are getting better for Steve. A whole lot better.
The Pink Panther movie had all of us laughing most of the night, it was hilliarious. I would recommend going to it. Rated at 'PG', it could have been rated 'G' except for a couple innuendoes and a crotch burning scene. And those weren't nearly as funny as the rest.

Beyonce Knowles as Xania in MGM/Columbia Pictures' The Pink Panther - 2006 [Beyonce is a Houston, Texas, girl made good in the flicks]
Jean Reno, Steve Martin and Emily Mortimer in MGM/Columbia Pictures' The Pink Panther - 2006
Go see it and report back. But you had better hurry, we are likely to see it again very soon.

Houston new traffic laws have have dropped freeway crashes from an average of 14,670 a year in 2003 and 2004, to 13,137 in 2005. That amounts to about a $65 million saving in property damages and injuries for a city cost of about $3 million.
Give credit to Houston's Safe Clear program. The idea: If you get stalled, wrecked, or have a flat, you hadn't better stay on the freeway for more than about seven minutes or you will get towed off. That really cuts down on congestion lost time too, besides the fewer accident costs.
Who is this new deputy?-- Remember, I'm not political
(hint: do you know Lou Ferrigno, age 54?)
(and I didn't shoot him)
Why it's Hulk, of course. Watch the video at CNN.com.
This morning I searched the blogs from my tool bar (why don't you guys have the Blogger Search tool bar at the top of yours?)
Cheney: 280, 452 posts. Cheney and Attorney: 15, 729 (176 so far about his shooting).
I haven't looked at many yet. Wonder what "My Fellow Bloggers" are saying. Most are nicer than me, so they probably are behaving. I will go see.
(later) I just returned from the 'rounds.' Only two with my links mentioned the affair. They weren't mean at all, at least to the V.P. Glad to hear that, I hope nobody thinks I'm mean. I will be watching Letterman tonight though.
A 'friend sent me some of what I missed last night on the TVs, Yahoo put it all down in their 'news (link).' Since the victim is hurt more than they thought, these aren't so funny (if they were to begin with).

"but I Didn't Shoot No Deputy"*
What it really said:
"Cheney, victim lacked proper hunting stamp
By JAMES PINKERTON and JULIE MASONCopyright 2006 Houston Chronicle
"CORPUS CHRISTI: Vice President Dick Cheney and Austin lawyer Harry Whittington, the Austin lawyer he wounded in a weekend hunting accident, did not have the proper stamp on their hunting licenses to shoot quail, according to a Texas Parks and Wildlife report released today.
"This afternoon Cheney sent a $7 check to the TPWD to pay for the upland game bird stamp, according to the vice-president's press office."
.
.
But then, I suppose the V. P. is above the law, Himself being the law.
Remark 1: I do regret not getting to see the Dave Letterman monologue tonight. It must have had the real low down, dirt and all!
Remark 2: I do not intend to get very political here. I would have said the same name for Kerry's V.P., old "what's his name." Your comments are welcome, I really did mean it when I said the blog wasn't intended to be political.
Remark 3: See Lopez at Large.

February 12, Abraham Lincoln's birthday. Well, that is nice. How do we honor it? Mostly with a writing on the calendar, some don't even mark it.
When I was young, way back in 19xx, we would get a half day holiday from school for Abe.
We would get another half day for George Washington on February 22. And of course we all played and partied Valentine's day, February 14. February was a short month as it was, having these three holidays just made it the best of months for school.
Are the kids getting shortchanged today? Yes, having President's Day on a Monday ruins it all for school kids. You see, the parents are likely to be off also. All day. That makes for planned family activities, which leaves the kids feeling they might just as well be in school.
The good old days were good that way. We always felt those two half days were special, just for kids. We could play kid things away from school, sometimes away from parents. Freedom, just to do our own thing.
Can you see why older people like the good old days? There are jillions of other reasons too.
