France -- Midi du Canal Part #1 -- SkyWatch Friday (my twenty-eight) -- Our Spring 2009 Europe Holiday

Click any picture for large size
Click any caption for super sized

We are off and running
Our ride would take about two hours

We would go under several bridges on our ride

Cruising along -- A friendly family

The scenery was delicious
.

Seen along the way:
The ducks watched us go by -- Old boat, for the taking?

A lock to go through -- It's full, we are going in
On the right note the lower water level down stream

Through in good shape -- Couple watching the action
Again note now we are on a lower level,
the water in the lock is gone

We are back -- There is our car

Tim tied us up
He enjoyed his holiday in Europe, we enjoyed his presence.

Tim, our son, is a boatman by profession. He ties up large ships and barges when they get into the Port of Houston. He has been doing this line of work now for over twenty-five years.

I will post Part #2 of our Midi du Canal ride another day. For a couple of other posts showing this ride

Midweek Blues -- Who is driving the boat?

Once Rebecca's thing (link1)(link2). here gets off the ground I will post these only on JIM'S LITTLE PHOTO AND POEM PLACE (link). But for now to get more exposure for MidWeek Blues I am putting it here also.

One more thing. YOU DON'T HAVE TO WRITE A WORD.
A simple blue picture is just fine.

You couldn't prove anything by me. Since men do boat handling best I will assume the man is.
The fellow appears to have a rudder handle. Or could there be a real driver inside?

We saw this pretty blue barge boat (also called 'narrow boat' [link]) on the Canal du Midi in Southern France (link). We passed it while we were canal boating just over a month ago.

[Answer: they both are, the lady up front is telling the guy in the back with the rudder where, when, and which way he should go and all the other important driving instructions. Ladies are good at that.]

I am now a charter member of the new MidWeek Blues group, maybe the second person to post, Rebecca, of Dusty Cellar is first. But she started this so she ought to be the first. They post around Wednesday I think.

If you want to post a MidWeek Blues picture, go get directions from Rebecca by clicking on the logo below. She has a Mr. Linky and good directions (considering it is for the first time). Just do what I did.

Vintage Calumet cans -- Ruby (Red) Tuesday --Free to family members

[Super large picture]

I sent this message to local family members Monday night, so far no takers. Those more distant are welcome too but I would have to mail them. I would wipe the Nebraska dust off the lid(s) if requested.

UPDATES:
1. The cans are spoken for by our children. Guess anyone else will have to pay $12.08 and buy from e-Bay.
2.The recipe booklet now sells for $18 from one antique dealer (link).
"Calumet Baking Powder, pamphlet, 1909, Reliable Recipes, nice $18.00"
"Calumet Baking Powder, pamphlet, 1907?, pic of Indian on cover, mint $20.00"
I don't think we have one of those. Mom may have had one.

My message to the kids:
"We have three of these and don't have room for them any more. They were Grandma H's. Do you want them (free!!)? One even has the 29 cents on the lid."

Even better than that, they are actually SOLD on eBay! This one (
link) has the asking price of $6.99 (buy it now) with $5.09 shipping, USPS. It has the 29 cents on the lid.

Click the Ruby Tuesday button for Mary's Ruby Tuesday post list.
Mary is in charge there, you can see more or post your own from there.

Out my a borrowed back door -- Sunset through the clouds

I'm saying borrowed because it wasn't taken from my back door. This pretty sunset over the water was from a balcony of a house being built over on the lake (in our Texas subdivision, Bentwater).

Looking straight down, I almost got sea sick. The little waves were rolling up to the bulkhead. So IF we lived here I would always look out, not down.

Maybe more of Jim's European Holiday posting next week. I have been having a VERY busy week but it's isn't almost over.
Like my mother-in-law (link) would say, "'It won't be long now' said the monkey when he caught his tail in the door."
