MORE OF WEDNESDAY
A WALK TO THE ROMAN VILLA RUINS
(I sure do miss Adi!!)
Yesterday ended that way after seeing alla the ruins at Pompeii. We walked UP the hill/mountain.
It was long, and UP. About four (4) km. By the time we got up there my wornout right foot, the one that put me on crutches for three months a year ago, was hurtingwith every step.
a welcome site at the end of the at long walk were two Orange short range busses. Right thenk at the tabacchi, we bought our tickets back to the hotel.
It was another kilometer or so DOWN to the ruins. That was ok. The path was made of huge grey cobblestones, one to two or more feet across.
The ruins were right at the tip of our peninsula. The view was wonderful To the right was our Sorrento, from its small harbor up to the top of the mountain. All across in a wide arc were those Italian white hoiuses and hotels, with a red or yellow one here and there.
The ruins were practically oiur own. Maybe 200 BC to 250 AD in time. All still there all alone at the a ruin top.we sat on an old wall. There we had a picnic, Rick Steves style. Mrs. Jim had brought a bottle of red Sorrento wine, a small loaf of whole wheat French bread, a hunk of cheese, and an apple. That was our supper in solitude.

A guy on a motorscooter came down the cobble path to visit things. By that time we were exploring down below. A lagoon down there was very interesting. The bathroom--well, we did have our pants up and closed before the scooter guy looked down.
Up the hil we found the huge white dog friendlier than going down. The scooter fellow passed us, as did a German couple who came down after the scooter.
Our Orange bus ride was nice, it dropped us off across from oiur hotel.
Tomorrow Mrs. Jim and I will go to Naples on our own. Thursday is the Isle of Capri!

A MORNING AT POMPEII
Well, we did it. Got to Pompeii in one piece. That wasn't real exciting, but it sure was nice history. 63 or so A.D.
Now we are back for a nice stroll down to a Roman villa ruins.
Of course pizza tonight, cheese, rolls, apples, and some red wine in our bag for the villa.

FROM SORRENTO, ITALY
no jail for jim yet!!
I am writing from the balcony of my hotel, the Hotel Villa Maria (www.hotelvilamaria.it).
My view across the bay is Naples. Mrs. Jim is reading her Rick Steves book. We will be here for a week.
Sorrento is a verypretty town, I canàt say it was prettier than a lot of places we had been during our two weeks on Sicily. I canàt put in my pictures until we get home. Sorry about that,
This morning our group of fifteen had a walking tour of downtown Sorrento. Pictures when we come back.
Noontime found Mrs. Jim and I at the Super Market, on the way to the bus station. We picked up a ciyoke if cabs if Diet Coke (0.55 Euro ea), a hunk of Swiss cheese (from France-1.05 Eur), a couple of Italian hoagie rolls, and two apples. All for 3.16 Eur.
On the bus for an afternoon at Positano. We ate on the bus, all but the apples and one Coke. That was energy for a nice downhill (mountain) walk. At the bottom on a bench looking over the beach and the bay, we finished our lunch.
The bus ride back was uneventful. That is if you call looking straight down cliffs, maybe a couple of football fields down uneventful. Tonight will be pizza and a moonlight stroll.
