A First Birthday Party — Six Word Saturday —
I should have more birthday pictures posted here soon.
We are in London visiting Karen, KP, and Billy.
This was a good time to come, wouldn't you say?
Five of us were at the party,
KP, Karen and Billy (parents), Mrs. Jim, and me.
Please do comment as they are like letters from home to us!

We had a birthday here! - KP's first! - In London!
KP's Party, blow by blow. KP, Karen and Billy (parents), Mimi, and I were there.
1. She got cleaned up and dressed in her pretty new 'cupcake dress' her daddy got her.
2. Her Papa John and Memaw from Orange, Texas, chatted with her on Skype. Earlier they had left her a singing message, the "Happy Birthday Song."
3. She looked at all her presents.
There's a nice gelato shop down the street. Papa will treat. KP's favorite is black cherry with vanilla. Her Papa's too!

Flashback Friday # 6 ~ Medical Memories
We are still in London with Karen and family after our Baltic cruise. Today is KP's first birthday. Tomorrow I will post about her celebration.
These PJs are Lady Bug PJs. There is a large lady bug on her shirt but her hand is covering it up.
KP is just ready to start walking.
Yesterday we took the Metro into downtown London to get her a push chair (stroller for U.S. people). She loves riding the rails. Notice how nicely she hangs onto the pole. Like a native Londoner.
After Karen came home from work the three of them went for a walk in the park and had a bite to eat. There is a neat little gelato shop down the street. KP had her share coming home. She acquired the taste of ice cream quickly, it was already in her genes from Mrs. Jim and me.
Now Flashback Friday:
Linda's orders are:
.
Were you prone to accidents and injuries when you were growing up? Did you ever break a bone? Knock out any teeth? Get stitches? Have you ever ridden in the back of an ambulance? Did you ever have surgery or spend any time in a hospital? How did your folks treat injuries and illnesses? With lots of TLC or by telling you to get a stiff upper lip? Was there a particular home remedy that your mom (or dad or whoever!) used or any "traditions" involving injuries or illnesses? What's the worst injury (or illness) you had when you were growing up?
1. Got to tell about the time Bess (one of our work horses) kicked me. I was about 12 or 13 and Dad had sent me to the pasture to bring up the horses. That would be Bell, Bess, and Minnie. Minnie was our riding horse, I rode her to high school for my first two years.
Bess didn't want to come up and so I got me a stick to whack her good with. I was holding the stick behind my back so that she wouldn't see it until I sprang. Bess didn't like me coming towards me that way. She whirled and kicked me silly.
My back hurt something awful but I made it the quarter mile or so back to the farm yard. The folks must have taken me to the doctor but I don't remember doing that. All I remember was laying on my back for about a week until it got some better.
2. Next I should tell about the time I got the chicken pox. I was at a hotel in Lincoln, Nebraska, attending an FFA convention. My specialty was judging weed seeds. I did get to judge and am thinking I did pretty good.
The problem was that all the boys from our school caught the chicken pox from me. I think my sister, Lois, did too, and maybe Dad.
It could have been the mumps. Lois will probably e-mail me to let me know. She checks THIS BLOG every day but very seldom leaves a comment. Several of my cousins also read it.
[Lois did straighten me out. She left this in her comment (# 2):
Think it was the measles you brought home to me. Dad brought home the mumps to all of us. You stayed awake to see them take out your tonsils, but you told me I should let them put me out when I got mine out a month later. And I'm thinking you got ringworm from our baby calves.]
3. When I was sixteen I had my tonsils taken out in the hospital as an outpatient. The doctor did not take out my adenoids because I only had a local and was not put to sleep. I remember the wire guillotine noose coming out of the little tube.
That noose went into my mouth and around my tonsils. Then the doctor pulled the handle. The wire of the noose cut my tonsils off and the doc removed them with a pair of long tweezers. I can't remember getting stitched up or what he did with the tonsils.
The best part of having my tonsils out was that ice cream was about all I could eat for a day or so. Mom said she saw one of my twins (I had two in my class who were born the same day as I was, October 30) smoking a cigarette the evening he had his taken out. I didn't smoke where my parents could see me doing that.
4. I did catch ringworm on my righ arm. I still have the scar. Probably I caught it from the cats. Anyway, we had a Dickens of a time getting it stopped. Dr. Lukens used iodine to kill it with. I remember he used a florescent light to make the sore show up. When it didn't glow anymore he declared me healed.
5. That about sums things up. We didn't take castor oil or any other periodic home remedies. Thank goodness for. In general I was pretty healthy and strong even though I was small in size.

I might add that most of the Flash Back Friday kids did this one last week. Last week I was in the Baltic Sea on a Princess cruise ship and didn't have a chance to get it done. Internet was costing five cents a minute.
So I am doing this one instead of the one assigned for today which really does not fit me.
Since we are still in London there is a good chance that I will not get every comment answered AGAIN. I am sorry about that because I do like to read your blogs and leave comments.

She's coming to see her Papa and Mimi — MidWeek Blues —
We haven't seen any of our grandkids since June 24. We have been seeing one daughter, Karen, though. We are here in London with her after getting back from our Baltic cruise.
Now, KP will be joining her mom and will living here in London with Karen. Of course, Dad, Billy, is right there flying with her.
People tell us that when she begins to talk she will have a British accent. We will listen.
Oh yes, thank you Billy for picking this pretty multicolored dress with the nice blue for her to fly in. As if I needed an excuse (MidWeek Blues) to tell this story!

Today was my mother's birthday. She would have been 99 years old had she still lived.
I still miss her, she was Mom.
My mom.
A lot of us don't have mom's anymore. If you still have one please give her a hug today for me. Thank you.
And if you don't have a mom now then you can shed a little tear with me.
Thanks to you also and may God bless you.

Is this picture worth a thousand words? — Ruby (Red) Tuesday —
So just a wordy few.
First of all, we are back in the U.K. These are Mrs. Jim's favorite British biscuits. They are available all over the British Islands.
Secondly, it says we like a little bit of peanut butter spread on ours. Chocolate and peanuts are my favorite. My colon doctor (gastrointerologist) says I should stop eating nuts. That has ruled out my favorite, M&M Chocolate Covered Peanuts.
For thirds, that peanut butter that I spread is from the U.S. Our jar is now less than half full so I will check the grocery store this evening for some more. Mrs. Jim for sure will need some more for sure. I am going back on the 20th of July but she will stay until August 4. I don't think our favorite brand, Kroger, will be available.
And fourth, it looks like we have been on a Princess Cruise. Yes, that is where we got back from. We did an eleven-day Baltic Capital cruise.
Places we visited were: COPENHAGEN; DENMARK (two days); Ship: Star Princess (Embarkation Port: Copenhagen, Denmark – 10 Days 07/01/10 (AT SEA) – THU 07/11/10); STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN; HELSINKI, FINLAND; ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA (two days); TALLINN, ESTONIA; GDANSK (GDYNIA), POLAND; FRI07/09/10 – AT SEA; OSLO, NORWAY; and back to COPENHAGEN, DENMARK (SUN 07/11/10 – morning and part of afternoon) then back to London for evening. I will be blogging more about some of these as time goes by.
Fifth, and last because this is getting boring, you can see that I like to share my good things with Mrs. Jim. I redid her tea (hot--sneak No. 6 in here, I had coffee with mine) and made her the other half of my biscuit.
Getting down there was a breeze on the Metro. I wish Houston had a Metro. From Karen's flat in Northwest London to our destination across from this little building was less than half an hour. Fifteen minutes plus of that time was spent walking.
We rode in from the airport in a taxi like this one, Ours was grey with black fenders. The nice elderly (retired but works two or three days a week) driver said it was ten years old. Like my eleven-year old Ford Mustang.
Conroe, Texas, does have taxis but not pretty ones like this. I should get me a toy 1:18 scale model while I'm here. I used to have a toy Yellow Cab of the 1920's version but Dad backed over it with his tractor. That was my favorite toy. It would have been quite valuable now.

I should be posting a little more often now with Karen's free Internet (she's paying the bill, we had to pay Princess). If you would, please keep leaving comments while I'm gone. I'll read your blogs some. But probably I won't resume returning very many comments after until I return.
