Loudon Wainwright - Dead Skunk In The Middle Of The Road

(A) Starts with the Letter "S":  Skunk starts with "S".  Mine is the "Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road" song of the early 70's.  Lyrics at the end of this post.

Cousins from Nebraska standing by Sam Houston (2006)

(B) "Short" (Tom's Choice): Our Statue of Sam Houston, our first Texas President, is NOT SHORT.  Neither is my cousin, Jack, who looks Short compared with the Statue.  Jack is over six feet tall.

They visited us in 2006 and had noticed the Statue when driving down I-45 into Houston.  So we went up to look things over.  The Statue is 67 feet tall, eleven times taller than Jack.

(C) A Favorite:  My Favorite Soup is Maruchan Instant Lunch with Shrimp.  I doctor it up a bit to make it look exciting and add just a little bit more boiling water to make it into Soup.

BTW, Maruchan Instant Lunch is a favorite of college students, a few years ago when I started eating it the price was 28 cents a serving, not it has gone to between 37 cents (Walmart) to 39 cents (Kroger).

Add Boiling Water but first doctor it up with the following:

Soup for Supper

Supper Soup for supper
Mines a fixer-upper
Start with the basics
Gotta suit shrimp fanatics

Add jumbo shrimp
Frozen peas mustn't skimp
Dash of chili
It'll be right for me

Along with the Soup I generally have about eight (two cut up for the soup) Jumbo Frozen Cooked Shrimp, about six or eight saltines with cheddar cheese slices, and Shrimp Sauce and Sweet and Sour Sauce for the Shrimp.

(D) Street/Reflections:  Scene Reflected in a Pet Clinic Window

(E) A Lagniappe:  This was a forgotten leftover from last week's Letter "R" stuff.
What is it?
Well, what does it look like?
It is a . . .

A Rat's Nest.  Our pool mechanic found it when he opened the pool heater door for some leak checking.
He said it is quite often to find Rat's Nests in that sort of  protected places.  I suppose it gets quite hot in there when and if the heater is turned on.

Lyrics (Dead Skunk Song)

Crossing the highway late last night
He shoulda looked left and he shoulda looked right
He didn't see the station wagon car
The skunk got squashed and there you are

You got your dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Stinking to high heaven

Take a whiff on me, that ain't no rose
Roll up your window and hold your nose
You don't have to look and you don't have to see
'Cause you can feel it in your olfactory

You got your dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
And it's stinking to high heaven

Yeah, you got your dead cat and you got your dead dog
On a moonlight night, you got your dead toad frog
Got your dead rabbit and your dead raccoon
The blood and the guts, they're gonna make you swoon

You got your dead skunk in the middle
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Stinking to high heaven
C'mon, stink

You got it, it's dead, it's in the middle
Dead skunk in the middle
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Stinking to high heaven
All over the road
Technicolor

Oh, you got pollution
It's dead, it's in the middle
And it's stinking to high, high heaven
