Back Home Now, This and That, Jim Bunch Eats, That's All for Tonight

.
Saw this at a Country Club/Pro Shop in St. Francisville, Louisiana, this afternoon. Why pass up something free?

Monday, probably, I will give a guided tour of sorts of our stay in Louisiana. We really enjoyed, as they say, 'We needed that!'
.
.

Thank you Jerry!
Jerry dedicated his song post to me yesterday, September 1.
It will play Marty Robins, Devil Woman for you, just push the "Play (2.6MB)" link on his post.
Mrs. Jim knows the words and was singing right along with Marty tonight (after midnight, so really this morning.
Please read his blog, Back Home Again. (link)
For history sake, you can always go here (link) for that September 1 posting.
.

.

These are Louisiana Crab Fingers, fried with the most delicious batter. We shared these as appetizers today. This bowl was heaping when we started, this was all that were left when I remembered the picture taking bit.

No crawfish po-boy today either. We ate at the country club in St. Francisville today, thank you very much Cousin Harold Ray.
They didn't have crawfish po-boys either, but they did have delicious oyster po-boys and we had those.

The Jim Bunch eats again . . . good Louisiana food this time

.
My first work assignment: go scrounge up some grub. I headed right to Brew Bacher's to find this intimidating menu. [Click on the picture, then do 'f ll' to enlarge it, so you can read the menu good.]
.

.

We settled on po-boys [check them out here]. I wanted oyster, but they had been out of them since Sunday. I settled on three shrimp po-boys, a catfish po-boy, and a large order of fried onion rings. Louis, who was recovering from his stroke, could really chomp down on that catfish when it was smushed up.

We did some more helping around for Mary, then headed to our jail for the night. On the way, with good behavior, we stopped at a couple of antique stores on Perkins Street in Baton Rouge.

.

.

That cell bunk really hit the spot. After a wine and cheese episode in the library and a quick run to town (with good behavior) for ice cream, we settled down for a nice sleep. We deserved that after all they put us through.

Breakfast would come at 8:30, preceded by an 8:00 wakeup call with coffee. It turned out to be Community Coffee, this time with chicory.

.

.

At an institution like this we had to be seated and stay quiet. No food fights were allowed. There were two other inmates here last night, one of them took this picture for us.

.

.

Our only menu choice was coffee or tea. We opted for coffee. No chicory this time. The other drinks were orange juice and water, I had both of them also.
On the plate were hash brown potatoes, a very nice quiche, two small pieces of sausage (I had put ketchup on for this picture, it would also be on those potatoes), and a large serving of grits.

Around the plate was butter, pineapple in a bowl, Community Coffee (Mrs. Jim and I shared a pot), a small pitcher of ketchup, orange juice, a small blueberry muffin (there were seconds on these), and a large biscuit with pear preserves to accompany.

.

.

What did our first day entail? Here Mrs. Jim was apprehensive of the coming work detail. I'll tell the rest another day.

.

.

This is the kitchen. Jail help didn't cook, it was more like K.P. [That's kitchen police for those who haven't been in the military or incarcerated.] It turned out Mrs. Jim didn't have to work there either.

Those paintings were Clementine Hunter (link) prints. Fairly valuable now, Clemintine's work is very popular around the state (Louisiana).

.

.

Skipping between meal things, we found this for supper tonight. We ate at Fremin's in Thibodeau, Louisiana. The catch of the day here was flounder topped with crawfish in a lightly spiced cream sauce with linquini on the side.

Add to that a nice Cajun Cobb salad. This was preceded by a shrimp and corn soup of the day. Needless to say, we didn't have room for dessert.

.
.

We got back to the compound at seven, just in time for wine and cheese in the library. When we got to our rooms, look what we found!

On the way to jail

.
Time out [good behavier] for a cup of coffee.
It was Community Coffee and was it ever good!
.

.

Does this look like a state information center?

In Louisiana, this is what to look for.

These are also the places to find that free good Community Coffee.

.

.

We were dropped off on good behavior to spend the night last night here. It is at Mrs. Jim's cousin's home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her cousin. Lewis, has had health problems.

Yesterday he came home from a 21-day stay in the hosptial for recovery from a stroke. Mrs. Jim was a tremdous help to him and his wife last night and this morning.

Just now

We are at the institution. I might get to blog some more later tonight, but since the people have treated us right, I hurried and put this on the blog.

Thought you might want to know we are ok. No pistol whipping or the likes yet.

You will see from the letter I e-mailed sister, Lois, we are in room now.

What follows is my e-mail reply to her inquiry. She was concerned I was either sick or on the road.

Dear Lois

My Blog said we were going to jail. Just like the link (click it here if you missed it yesterday) that was on my blog said had happened before. We ended up in a French jail that time. You are supposed to guess where the jail is this time.

I will post tonight. We had a nice stopover, two actually, on the way to jail. They let me off for coffee once and to potty. Then we had an overnight stay last night.

And a good thing, the wireless works up here in my cell! I thought I was going to have to bribe a guard to use theirs downstairs. They also brought us a glass of wine and some nuts so far.

I'd better hurry and eat or blog before I drink too much wine, the guard said she was going to bring some more wine soon.

Going to jail again -- could these French digs be habit forming?

.
I heard Jim was off to jail again. Maybe Mrs. Jim too. [That other time turned out alright (link) all things considered.]

For sure not Adi, she keeps her nose clean. Oops, I'm sorry I said that. If you could just see where her nose goes . . .
.
This time its no TV, no phone. I've heard they have WiFi on the first floor so with time off for good behavior, maybe I could add to the blog? Probably could sneak that in during the wine and cheese hour in the library.

Or should I be doing the jail house lawyer thing and be working on escaping legally? Maybe I won't want to leave, I hear it is a lot nicer and homier than the Beaumont Federal Correctional Complex (a minimum federal prison complex)[Read about it].

This one for us is out in the boonies of Louisiana.
.

.

They said no WiFi up here though I won't complain. This is on the balcony where we can sit in the cool of the evening. Mint Julips anyone?

Sunday Lunch with the Jim Bunch

Flash: Warren just answered my tag. (Go there)
For Seeker's tag, (go here), it is a blessing.
For MY tag, (go here).
.
.
MacDonalds on Sunday is getting to be a habit with us. Us is Mema, Mrs. Jim, and me.

We all ate for $6.50. Mema had a Double Cheeseburger Happy Meal, Mrs. Jim and I shared a chicken Snack Wrap and we ate most of the French fries from Mema's happy meal. Mrs. Jim and I also had Senior Diet Cokes.

The routine continues, Mema eats half of her Double Cheeseburger and puts the other in her purse for a pick-me-up in the afternoon, then the three of us share two Hot Fudge Sundaes. That makes for three pretty full-up seniors on a $6.50 investment.
.

.

The toy is for me. When asked whether a boy's toy or a girl's toy, I opt for the boy's. I would like to have a Hummer collection to go with my other cars and Happy Meal toys.

.

.

My Hummer was like the blue one on top. Boy was I thrilled. I haven't opened the cars, like the Beanie Babies, they will be more valuable unopened.

A twist here. This was my second Hummer toy, since my first one went to a little boy who didn't have a Happy Meal, this one would be the first for my collection.

Wouldn't you know it. Here was another little boy with his Daddy and two sisters, none of whom had eaten a Happy Meal. You guessed it, that little boy now has a nice new Hummer MacDonalds toy.

He opened the wrapper quickly too, right after a big smile followed with a very heartfelt "thank you." Maybe next time . . .

.

. . . next time, I can find still another little boy who needs a bright new Hummer toy.
