Two Conference Champion Teams? Both are my alma mater schools

Before I start on this I would like to say that I have completed my first year anniversary at blogging. This is the start of the second year!

I started on December 1, 2006 (link). Rachel was my first commenter full of encouragement, followed closely by Cliff Morrow.

I will bore you soon with some statistics but for now I will say that I have posted almost every day on this blog for the whole year. That's when I tell the why of the Bitney Spears thing of yesterday also.
.
There have been 555 posts on this blog including today! That's a lot.
There were about 11,652 hits or clicks during that time.
Finally, there were 208 posts on my other blogs.

UH is the Conference USA Campions for 2006. The beat Houston Southern Mississippi last night, 34-20.
.
That makes it their tenth conference championship since 1952.
Starting in 1952 they were the Missouri Valley Conference champs four times.
Starting in 1976 they were the Southwest Conference champs four times.
In 1996 they were the Conference USA champs and now again last night.
.
The Cougars are now 10-3 for the season. Houston hired Art Briles in 2003 and he lured Kolb, the quarterback Briles coached in high school. That made a lot of the difference in getting back on a winning track.

The University of Nebraska (9-3 for the season) is hoping to win the Big 12 Conference championship today. They will play the University of Oklahoma this evening at 7:00 CDT with ABC Network coverage.

The Oklahoma Sooners and the Nebraska Cornhuskers once dominated the old Big 8 . Finally now they are to play for the Big 12 crown.
.
Oklahoma or Nebraska had represented the Big 8 in the Orange Bowl in 17 of the 19 years before the Big 12 was formed in 1996. From 1962 to 1995 the Sooners and/or Cornhuskers won or shared the conference championship every season but two.
.
Senior quarterback Zac Taylor (who is originally from Norman, Okla., but was not recruited by the Sooners) has thrown two touchdown passes in his last five games. Taylor and junior Maurice Purify are the team leaders followed by a host of other very good players.
.
And finally this year Cornhuskers are catching on to coach Nebraska coach Bill Callahan's West Coast Offense. I think that name implies they are more of a passing team than their former plough the ground game.

He's almost as good in the numbers as Kevin Kolb and has probably played a few more tougher teams than Kolb.

This is Mema (her 89th birthday picture) (my blog about her). Her companions are her Son, Danny, and his wife, Winetta, from Tennessee. They were visitors for Thanksgiving along with ten of her kids and grandkids.

Also visiting were Daughter, Velma, and son-in-law, Royce. Two of their children also were here, Tammy and husband, J.B. and sons Phillip and Justin, then Phil and wife, Lisa, and children Marty and Gabby (picture)(my blog about them). Of course Mrs. Jim and I visited Mema also. Adi watched our house for us.

Mema is now residing in a Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Park Manor, at Conroe, Texas. She has settled in so good considering all the problems she has had late with her congestive heart failures. Her two quick trips to the hospital were very hard on her.

This is a picture of Mrs Jim enjoying our Russian trip, we were stopping for a day visit at Uglich, Russia (day four Uglich photo). On the way back to our ship we stopped at this park. It was a school day and no children were playing.

Adi is ready for the Big 12 Campionship game this weekend against Oklahoma. Guess what, the Nebraska quarterback, Zac Taylor grew up in Norman, Oklahoma. His Dad, Sherwood Talor, was a defensive back for Oklahoma back in the 1970s. Zac is a large part of the reason the Huskers are doing so well this year.

Adi's friend, Harry Husker (my blog about Harry's history), was my Mom's buddy. Harry lived out on the screened and windowed front porch of their home. He never was put outside on game day, she was afraid he would get kidnapped.

Here Robin Roberts (a.k.a. "Big Red") has just egressed into Dale Jr.'s Number Eight car as viewed on the ABC GMA (Good Morning America) yesterday morning. Her friend, in the red racing suite, is NASCAR driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. (link)(NASCAR link). I'm not sure who the other fellow was.

This is the before view. Those weeds don't belong there, now they are partially covered with water. The thinking is that they will die off. This part is too shallow for much boating anyway.

The golf course irrigates using lake water. They had to dig this channel so water could get water to inlet.

The crane lives here.


BTW, the lake is up another eighteen inches or so since this picture was taken.

This is my lucky day!

Yesterday, The Bachelor, Prince Lorenzo Borghese, revealed Jen as his choice for Bachelorette (link to that blog).

Remember back when, I invited everyone to enter the Cheesy Joke contest put on by KFC. I blogged of the contest, gave the answer too, on September 30 (link).

Well, I was one of the first 1,000 people to find the answer to their joke riddle.***

So my prize is this gift check redeemable at any KFC for one new Ultimate Cheese Snacker.

I got my gift and the letter last October. Tomorrow I may be in Conroe helping Mema so I'll get one on my way.

Those things, the Ultimate Cheese Snackers, cost a dollar so it ought to make a decent meal for one if I bring a Diet Coke.

A couple of months ago I won a "Meal Deal" from Whataburger (link) using my business card (retired). Mrs. Jim got a "Whatachicken" sandwich, drink, and fries. It was enough for both of us. , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,
*** Riddle question: What do you put on your sandwich during rush hour? The answer: traffic jam. :)

Note: Yesterday was a record day for this blog. There were 103 'clicks' on the blog. That was because of all the fuss over my topic, The Bachelor, Prince Lorenzo Borghese, revealed Jen as his choice for Bachelorette (link).

Lorenzo (link to his ABC bio), who graduated from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, has picked another Florida girl as his bachelorette. She is Jennifer (Jen) (link) who currently resides in Pembroke Pines, Florida. You remember her as having the dad with the shotgun thing .

Another Dillema in Life:

Which should I choose?

Naranja y Pina Mezcla de Coctel en Jugo

or

Orange Pineapple Juice Cocktail Blend?

I'm comfortable with this Orange Pineapple drink.

I do like to try new things, this Naranja y Pina sounds exotic.
.
Kroger had them side by side on the shelf, two rows of each.

I decided to try the Naranja y Pina drink.

That was until Mrs. Jim came to the rescue. She said they were both the same.

We both found out that each bottle had two labels, Naranja y Pina on one side, Orange Pineapple on the other.



Bilingual, huh? I think it is a good idea, it might help me learn Spanish and surely will help the Hispanics learn English.
