Weekend Roundup -- 06-18(b) (for letter "F")
The 32nd issue of Weekend Roundup for this year...
The week's prompts:
(1) Starts with "F"; (2) A Favorite; and (3) Flower
(1) Starts with "F": Friends and Friendship, Forty-six years for us.
These are our pictures, of Mrs. Jim and I, mounted in a yellow paper plate. Each paper plate was a 'porthole' for our ship, pasted on the wall of our Vacation Bible School classroom. Each plate had a student or teacher/leader's picture, as if looking out the windows.
You can note that we are wearing our Identification Tag by a string around out neck. All staff had background checks performed. We had third grade kids, eight rooms of them, at 25-30 per room.

(# 13 of 15 shown)
At right is "Joltin' Jo's Expresso, McCook, Nebraska." It is supposed to be "one of the friendliest little coffee shops around."
But it is walkup only, there is no place to sit and drink and talk, so you guess how 'friendly' is it. Perhaps the only coffee shop in McCook, it is a small town.

(2) A Favorite:
Food, first I'll show the catfish dinner basket we had this week in Farmerville, Louisiana. There were five pieces of fish, hush puppies, and lots of French Fries and coleslaw. This was at the 'Ol' Hickory Café' going out of town south, just before the lake. Each of us took at least half our meal home for eating another meal at home.
Not as exciting was the other to the right but it was filling and satisfying. We were given breakfast before the VBS started. It was brought by volunteers, here was half of a Sausage Kolache, wrapped was a breakfast taco, the some fruit. There was other stuff, oodles of donuts but I don't eat them, going on 12 years, and then lots of fruit which I chose this one. [You can click on any picture for a larger view. ]
(3) Flower: Hibiscus ~~ This is a different plant that we had last year. For two years in a row, there has been a hard freeze, this year's was worse than last, killing two of our palm trees.

The end, that's all for tonight.

Five Cousins of 2006
The five cousins.
Mema's first cousins were all in their 80s. The occasion was Homecoming at New Hope Baptist Church, Calcasieu, Louisiana. Now twelve years later, all have died and gone to Heaven.
.
From left to right is Viola (Mema, Arlene's mother), Gracie (a cousin by marriage), Louvenia, Oma, and Ethel. All of them were born and grew up in Central Louisiana in the New Hope/Calcasieu area.
