An encounter -- Update on the sardine and cheese sandwich
After the tale, Jim showed a picture of his sardine and cheese sandwich.
This blog post shows an improvement update for the sandwich.

This was my lunch yesterday. It is a sardine on whole wheat with Swiss today. The previous sandwich edition used no-fat cheese. Also I used a whole wheat hoagie bun instead of the whole wheat regular bread. And the pickles were on the side.
It tasted good, but was a little on the dry side. Next time in addition to the mustard I will blather it with no- or low-fat mayo.
Technically, this is a po-boy as sardines are fish. The excerpt below is from the History of Hoagies, Submarine Sandwiches, Po' Boys Sandwiches, Dagwood Sandwiches, & Italian Sandwiches Web site (link): [fish emphasis is mine]
"Po' Boy (poo-boy) - Also know as Oyster Loaves. Po' Boy is the generic name for the standard New Orleans sandwich made with French bread. They are considered a New Orleans institution. Also called poor boy. Always made with French bread, Po' boys can be filled with fried oysters, shrimp, fish, soft-shelled crabs, crawfish, roast beef and gravy, roast pork, meatballs, smoked sausage and more."
In addition, the article tells of the beginning of the po-boy, or poor-boy sandwich, in New Orleans. And it tells this reason for the name. Thesandwich, on a hoagie bun, was filled with scrap meat and sold for a nickel or given to the poor. Those 'poor boys really appreciated their po-boy sandwich.

In addition to my sardine sandwich, I had this for dessert. Cantalope with Blue Bell Light Homemade Vanilla ice cream. Yummy!

An encounter
I was with some business associates the other morning. We were calling on a customer we had called on several times before.
At about 9:35 the owner/CEO of the company came in. He greeted us warmly and we exchanged niceties. Ten minutes later the two Vice Presidents came in and there were more niceties.
I was thinking, "What in the world would it be like to come to work at late hours like this?" But then I'm not the CEO or any kind of VP and probably never will be so what does it matter. We all were in the 12/6's or so ourselves.
I was having an exchange with the secretary when I noted that the rest had left. Usually we all went for coffee and a sweet roll at one of the eateries in the building, so I headed out in search of the others.
Why they left without me I couldn't figure. The first place I went to was an open-air fancy place that we frequented regularly with these customers. This time they weren't there. They had elected to go someplace else and I would have to find them.
As I was leaving I sat on the step to tie my shoe which had a lace come loose. Anymore, since my knee injury, I can't bend down to tie.
The knot was being tightened when I became aware of someone standing behind me. I slowed my tying operation to give me a little time to figure this out. I was hoping whoever it was would leave.
The person didn't stay there, but slumped down beside me. It was a man in a rather heavy work jacket with a fake fur collar; he looked as if he did landscape work or the like.
And then I noticed there was another person standing behind me.
I didn't like the feel of this situation.
But there wasn't time to become very alarmed, as the person tried gently to pull me down. I was guarding my wallet; it always was in my front pocket.
But he wasn't after my wallet. No one else was within eyesight, I screamed.
I screamed some more. The thought of an older, grown man screaming seemed peculiar but that was my only option. He was so much stronger than me. And he had a friend.
I screamed some more.
It seemed as if he released me, but did not go away. And was sitting terribly close to me!
That's what happened.
It was over but I never knew how things ended up.
..
This? It's a mustard sardine sandwich, with no fat cheese and pickles on whole wheat.

Drummond Castle and Gardens -- Scotland Holiday # 002
These lovely gardens were just below the castle and gate house. There were flowers, shrubbery, vegetable gardens, and various garden statues.
The castle is the structure on the right. On the left you are seeing the gatehouse, stables, and servant quarters. The day was warm and I was breathing hard going back up.
The castle was built in 1491 for the Drummond family. It is now a private residence of a Drumond family descendant. I haven't seen this move, but “Rob Roy, legends of the mist” was filmed using the castle as the residence.
See the castle Web site for more information and their pictures (link)..
.
Mrs. Jim and Karen posed briefly by this garden statue of Adonis. That helped give some size perspective to my picture. (Adonis Wikipedia link)
.
This walkway outside the green houses provided a friend for Karen.
.
The cat was very friendly. After all this attention it tagged around with us for quite a while. It paid off good for her (the cat), she got more petting.
.
We weren't allowed to pick fruit, the apples looked really good. I know, these are tomatoes. Take a peek at what they are growing in. I guess if we could get that many tomatoes I could spring for sack of this stuff.
.
It looks like more than one plant can be planted in these things. I think they would be real good for a balcony garden. Maybe I could surprise Mrs. Jim with a garden somewhere.
I forgot, I do have my lemon tree (link)(link to that whole blog).
We all made it up the terrace. No, I didn't fall this time either. This castle is not open to the public, only the gardens.
As I said earlier, it is ALL a private residence, owned and occupied by a Drumond family descendant. Some Scotish castles are open to the public. Most do not allow inside pictures.
I just knew you wanted to see this work car up real close. I did.
If you got down to here you might note that this material and pictures were in the main placed on my PHOTO PLACE blog earlier.
.
I intend to keep the Scotland travel material on this blog from now on except for a single or double picture post now and then.
I'll try Tuesdays for a while on these.

Eh? What did you say? Huh?
This one I like! Do you wonder why?
This next one isn't bad either.
A senior citizen said to his eighty-year old buddy:
"So I hear you're getting married?"
"Yep!"
"Do I know her?"
"Nope!"
"This woman, is she good looking?"
"Not really."
"Is she a good cook?"
"Naw, she can't cook too well."
"Does she have lots of money?"
"Nope! Poor as a church mouse."
"Well, then, is she good at making love?"
"I don't know."
"Why in the world do you want to marry her then?"
"Because she can still drive!"
