This is my lucky day! [07-07-07] And time! [07:07 AM]

Why do you say I'm lucky?

.
1. Lucky in love. In fact Mrs. Jim and I could have renewed our wedding vows this morning. At 07:07:07 AM.
.

.

This wasn't a picture from today's honeymoon, it was last year's trip to Italy. We are boating just off the coast of the Island of Capri. We do this honeymoon stuff often, remember this year's started in Ireland.

Some might say there isn't any need for a renewal of wedding vows unless there are problems. I compare doing this to maintaining a car. When it gets to be 35 years old a little TLC is in order.

My friend says our preacher should hold a wedding renewal ceremony tonight. It can never hurt, and besides today just might be your luckiest day in the world.

2. Adi, our pet, is a lucky dog. She is a really nice full blooded tri-colored Beagle. You might can tell, I just woke her up from her nap for the photo op. She didn't exactly say Whoopie!

.

It's not her blood that makes her nice though, it's her training and upbringing. She loves to obey so well that she's never even needed a newspaper spanking! [Just like we treat our kids, everyone gets ice cream rewards!]

.

3. Even our car is lucky! Lucky to be alive!
..
4. And I myself am lucky, lucky to be alive. [Go--click--here to read about my nine lives, I've lived at least seven of them.]

.

5. I'm lucky to be teaching Sunday school tomorrow. My leg could have been in a cast or an immobilizer for a long while. Guess I'd better stop here and get back to studying and preparing the lesson.

.

Our lesson is on Haggai, and his book of the Bible. Haggai was an encourager and one of the Old Testament prophets. Our study theme will be commitment (link), the Israelites needed more commitment towards rebuilding their temple for worshiping God in.

Do you think these words put them all on a guilt trip?

"9. You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house. 10. Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops. 11. I called for a drought on the fields and the mountains, on the grain, the new wine, the oil and whatever the ground produces, on men and cattle, and on the labor of your hands." Haggai 1:9-11 (New International Version)(link)

Note: If you got all the way down here, you might have guessed. I'm doing a John McCain type interview of myself. I ask the question and I give the answers.

I believe I should do it some more, what do you think?

A day for being in the clouds, but it didn't rain on our parade

[click on pictures for larger view]
.
The sun hardly came out for the 4th of July this year. But it was a wonderful day for flying. These guys flew the entire time for our parade. The clouds were dark, but we did not have our daily rain until an hour after the parade. (Flypasts, Wikipedia link)
.
Houston has a wonderful, long, and large parade. So did our former town of Friendswood, Texas. We lived there 23 years until our retirement in 1999 (Mrs. Jim retired then, I worked two more years).
.
Friendswood has the longest running Fourth of July parade in the United States. They didn't stop parading during WWII which so many of the older towns did. Mrs. Jim and I road in that parade once in a red Mustang convertible, the year I ran for Justice of the Peace. That whole year was enjoyable (I lost out in the general election).
.

.

Since moving here we mostly have gone to our subdivision parade. We call it a golf cart parade although there were a few cars and motorcycles also. Not many bicycles.

.
This was my favorite float golf car, Entry No. 68. You might recognize the occupants, GC#4 (a.k.a. BP), Adi, and Mrs. Jim. They worked hard on the decorations, Karen and I helped some. I aways get the job of blowing up balloons.

.

And those airplanes?

Just look below.

.

We hardly miss a Fourth of July parade. Nor do we miss the fireworks. Friendswood always had great one, generally a light show. Mrs. Jim and I reminissed tonight as we watched our subdivision fireworks. One year we went to the Red River in Alexandria, Louisiana. where they had a nice boat light parade as well.

.

We went home after the parade and had hotdogs.

.

We both remembered too, all those evenings watching fireworks with my mom and dad out at the Tekamah, Nebraska, ball park. I imagine Cliff and the Morrows were there this year as always.

now we can go for our walks again.
.
I really didn't want this surgery and for some reason just didn't feel real good about it. The doctor said if it wasn't causing pain and I didn't hurt then let's not do it.
.
So I'm to walk and use it more and more and come back for an office visit in two weeks. Mostly I have to get myself ready for golf again.
.
Here's the real story from an eye-witness, Mrs. Jim, with all the low down:

Hi,

Thank you to everyone who prayed for us today. Jim and his doctor cancelled his knee surgery and this was the best decision. They had been wrestling with this decision. Jim had gone through all his pre-op and had his IV in place, etc.

When the doctor came for the surgery and examined Jim, he ask Jim about his activities and pain level. He manipulated and evaluated the knee, had Jim to walk, squat, and other activities. Since Jim stopped using the immobilizer 2 weeks ago, he has been able to make greater strides in movement and use of his knee. Together Jim and the doctor decided that if Jim could live with the level of discomfort and limited use of the knee, that he would be better off to not have the surgery and the hardware and recuperation involved.

Jim's concern was the long term outcome if he didn't have surgery. Dr. Price assured him that he could "fix" any eventual problems if he started having pain or problems. He also thought that for knee replacements or such problems, Jim's bones would be in better shape for such without this surgery.

Dr. Price felt that surgery would have been best if it had been done just after the injury. Jim wasn't able to see him until about two weeks after the injury. But even now, the believes that Jim's knee will continue to heal some.

We appreciate your love, concern and prayers. You are so special to us. Not having surgery is a great relief for me and Jim.

Thank you.
Love,
Mrs. Jim

Answer: Except for the rain, these are the things I couldn't do after the surgery with my leg in a cast. I wished these were all the things I should do before it got so rainy.

BTW, with I.V.s in my hand and wearing a backless robe, I hopped down from my pre-op bed for my doctor. Between the two of us, we decided not to do the surgery.
