Swamped -- or why I haven't posted lately
My sister was visiting from Iowa. It was 5°F up there the first night she was here. We are in the mid 70's.
Here Lois and Mrs. Jim are inspecting the cow at the Blue Bell Creameries. We did a nice tour ($2.00 senior rate and included two dips of our favorite ice cream).
My niece and husband and family live on down south of Houston. They are the main reason for the visit. But generally they always spend a few days with us. They have the record for time spent in our guest room.
Anyone else coming to visit Houston is always welcome to use it as well. We are a very good place to spend the night coming in to avoid the rush hour Houston traffic. They leave the next day or a couple of days later (or stay a while).
Brother-in-law, Jim W, came here also. He didn't bring his golf clubs but may borrow some before they week is over.
After the creamery we went to several antique stores and antique malls in Brenham. Mrs. Jim didn't buy anything, Lois got another plate for her green old set of serving dishes.
This morning before send-off we had breakfast at our Club. See, the Jim Bunch Eats once more. Mrs. Jim had an 8:30 tee time so she had to skip for this time.
Mrs. Jim had made it back in time for a little more chat and to guard her car while BIL Jim W. backed out of the driveway. We had a nice send off.
They are good folks, we had independent backing on this opinion as our dogs like them both really well. They will stop by on their way back up north.

A little poem -- Grandpa's Day OSI (Slowly)
LITTLE PHOTO AND POEM PLACE,
February 1, 2008
Grandpa's Day
slowly he turns over in his bed
push down his feet to straighten his back
his shoulder aches his side cries in pain
child's voice -- I wish my Grandpa'd be here
crawls out of bed so slowly he dresses
holed socks torn shirt one pair faded jeans
clean yesterday shoes by door there lay
child's voice -- my Grandpa needs a new suit
lane's end he goes -- find his paper there
the dogs explore cold's white field of frost
song birds all know new to read there not
child's voice -- why doesn't Grandpa have a TV
boiled egg he eats the kids cooked last week
puzzle to work next he'll read past's news
for better word radio would work
child's voice -- my grandpa should have a mac
lunch time comes its baloney and cheese
pickles are gone meat has spots of green
safe in his jar peanut buttter there
child's voice -- did we cook grandpa enough
now get the mail sure glad frost is gone
the dogs do roll grass is very dry
no letters here from anyone dear
child's voice -- I'd e-mail my Grandpa dear
comes supper now eat before the dark
one hot dog cold on bread that's his dole
better he fares when grand kids are there
child's voice -- hot dog for Grandpa I'd make
its off to bed you kids get some sleep
your grandpa goes before the light is gone
early we leave fix him for the week
child's voice -- can grandpa come live with us
Grandpa my son lives in Grandpa's day

Painting is easy when you don’t know how, but very difficult when you do. Edgar Dégas
The same may go for poetry? (whatever, I enjoy painting with the words!).

Adi Can . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Predict the weather on Ground Hog Day
[large picture] [super size]
Adi is good. She could forecast the weather in her sleep.
Since the ground hog squirrel did see its shadow then Adi said, "Six more weeks of winter" and promptly went back to sleep .
.Our cold gets down into the low 40's and sometimes in the 30's at night and in the 50's, 60's, and 70's for highs. Occasionally this winter it got up into the 80's. Like they say about getting old, Global Warming is H*ll.
Not everyone knows about Ground Hog Day. Do you have Ground Hog Day on February 2 in your country? You don't have to be a meteorologist to determine how much more winter we will have.
Just look at the ground hog (a form of squirrel) on February 2. If 'he' sees his shadow when he comes out of his nest/hole and sees his shadow he will run back in afraid of it. He will stay in for six more weeks and then come back out.
If he can't see his shadow then he says 'it must be spring' and stays out.
Ground hog observations are given a lot of weight by the people in the United States and Canada.
Of course we all smile and know it doesn't really work like that, a squirrel doesn't affect the weather nor does he predict it.
But the ground hog did see his shadow in Pennsylvania, the official site, so we will have six more weeks of winter.
Bottom line, if squirrels can predict the weather so can Adi.
