e-Mail today:
This was in the inbox. It is a scam. It just so happens that as our Montgomery Pet Partners, Inc. treasurer I am in the process of setting up our PayPal non-profit account. I also have one already going for eBay use.
So the message seemed appropriate. How to spot the problem? Just see how personal it is, they didn't even addressed to me personally, just "Dear valued PayPal® member."
Clicking on the link invites who knows what. Of course I didn't. They may ask for personal data? They may have an embeddedd spy program to get all this from my computer? Who knows what?
The message:

Dear valued PayPal® member :
It has come to our attention that your PayPal® account information needs to be updated as part of our continuing commitment to protect your account and to reduce the instance of fraud on our website. If you could please take 5-10 minutes out of your online experience and update your personal records you will not run into any future problems with the online service.
However, failure to update your records will result in account suspension. Please update your records on or before February 7, 2006. Once you have updated your account records, your PayPal® session will not be interrupted and will continue as normal.
To update your PayPal® records click on the following link: http://219.83.2.28/icons/index.html
Thank You.
Any takers here?

Yes, for sure.
I think they call this activity 'phishing.' A new e-mail tech speak term. Well, it has been around for a while.
I get phished from banks too. That may the wrong spelling for this term past tense?

I get these too. They definitely are spoofs/phishing and need to be forwarded. I send mine to spoof@ebay.com. All notices from eBay and PayPal should contain your first name and/or possibly your sign-in name. Also spam@UCE.gov is a good place to forward crap.
