Houston Chronicle -- They pulled a big rip-off this week!
And I'm paid up till some time next Spring!

My comics are gone! Ten of the ones I have read every day for the last several years.
The Houston Chronicle is having a big belt tightening in its finances. Besides reducing the comics from four pages to two, they have laid off five percent (5%) of their employees. Bad news all around.
This isn't the first time. The worst sin the Houston Chronicle committed was to remove Mrs. Jim's favorite, Kudzu. I'm not sure, but around a year ago, they even removed Kudzu from their Web site (Comics). So I don't trust our Houston Chronicle too much about promises over about comic strips.
Now they say we can still read our favorites on the Web. How long do you think that would take every day? For one dollar ($1.00) a month some sites will e-mail us our favorite comics every day. But they don't have all these nine. Nevertheless I could save about $180 less $12 a year by cancelling the Chronicle and get most of the ones I read via e-mail.
There might even be a Google or Yahoo page that will let me read them all. Right now my Yahoo has three previously cancelled Chronicle comics, In the Bleachers, The Quigmans, and Speed Bump. These are all keepers so I need another place.
On the following: The Chronicle link will have today's (November 14, 2007) comics. None of the King Feature pages will have current comics. The others do except for Denis the Menis.

So what would you do? Perhaps you can find a place I get most of my favorites all on one page?

Hi Jim ~~ Sorry to hear they have taken away your comics. I never have time to read them, although I get 2 papers a day. Worse still is sacking employees. Bad luck you have paid so far ahead. Thanks for your messages.

That happened here a few years back. The comics I read were dropped from the local paper. I cancelled our subscription. Sometimes it is the little things.

What a coincidence...I just got my bill for our paper today. Everything is intact, so no changes there. I don't know what I would do in your situation. I need my daily paper as it is a big part of our routine. Even the way we share it as we go along.
Maybe you can get a refund on the unused portion of your subscription, eh ... but that may cost another employee. Some papers can't compete with the internet news being available about a day earlier than the front page. Thanks for stopping by ... I can take a breather from company until Christmas ;)

hmm, I can see you're having great problems in that huge state of yours.
I googled and found it was the fourth largest city in the USA:
Houston, Sugar Land, Baytown
5,539,949 the statistic says.
Well, that's half a million more than the population of Norway put together!!
Our local paper has only six comic strips, and I only seldom read one.
I would strongly advice you to buy comic paperbacks instead. I have giggled for a week now, over old Mad, Garfield and Peanuts copies emerging from my big tidying up affair.
My brother still keeps his Superman magazines from the late sixties. That is weird!!
If the paper's cutting down in quality and quantity, there should be a substantial price reduction too.

Jim you can call in and cancel and they will refund you the difference. I quit taking the Chronicle about three months ago because it was just too much paper around the house. Last Sunday, my carrier called me up and told me that if I would restart the paper she would let me have it for $ 100.00 for the whole year. I had to pay her in advance, but it was worth it because I was missing my coupons and sale ads.... I think that the carriers have to start up a certain number of customers every month to keep up their commissions...
I have never been much on the comics but my husband loves reading them.....So sorry they took away some of your favorites...
