Sanctity of Human Life Day -- Love your neighbor as yourself

Today (Jan. 20) has been designated as “Sanctity of Human Life Day.” Every year since 1984, our president has issued a proclamation similar to the one issued since 1984: (2008 Proclamation)

"Now, Therefore, I, Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim Sunday, January 22, 1984, as National Sanctity of Human Life Day. I call upon the citizens of this blessed land to gather on that day in homes and places of worship to give thanks for the gift of life, and to reaffirm our commitment to the dignity of every human being and the sanctity of each human life." (
1984 President Reagan)

God gives only one life to every human being and life becomes valuable because of that fact. Many people make their lives more attractive by following Him, and trying to work with Him to perfect His will in their lives. All of us have known people with handicaps or a lack of skill who never-the-less made a very good contribution to their community and country. Because of the truth in these thoughts God Wants Us To Value Everyone.

God's Word, Bible References: (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
Honor Everyone
Genesis 1:27: So God created man in His own image;
He created him in the image of God;
He created them male and female.

Genesis 9:6: Whoever sheds man's blood,
his blood will be shed by man,
for God made man
in His image.

Respect Everyone
Matthew 5:21-22: 21 "You have heard that it was said to our ancestors, Do not murder, and whoever murders will be subject to judgment. 22 But I tell you, everyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Fool!' will be subject to the Sanhedrin. But whoever says, 'You moron!' will be subject to hellfire.

Love Everyone
Matthew 22:36-40 36 "Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?" 37 He said to him, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the greatest and most important commandment. 39 The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. 40 All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commandments."

Value Everyone
Mark 10:46-52: 46 They came to Jericho. And as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar, was sitting by the road. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out, "Son of David, Jesus, have mercy on me!" 48 Many people told him to keep quiet, but he was crying out all the more, "Have mercy on me, Son of David!"
49 Jesus stopped and said, "Call him."
So they called the blind man and said to him, "Have courage! Get up; He's calling for you." 50 He threw off his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus.
51 Then Jesus answered him, "What do you want Me to do for you?"
"Rabbouni," the blind man told Him, "I want to see!"
52 "Go your way," Jesus told him. "Your faith has healed you." Immediately he could see and began to follow Him on the road.

We were on a mission trip with them to Guatemala last fall.
..

Thanks for explaning Buckner, International. Sounds like a grand cause. My job before my current one was the founding General Manager of the Goshen Valley Foundation, which not builds Christian group homes for boys in protective custody. My job there was establishing the program up to the initial licensing. As my boss explained it, "You're Moses. Lead us to the promised land, but your journey ends before we get there."

Hi Jim ~~ What a great idea having a Sanctity of Human Life Day ~~and "Love your Neighbor as yourself" is
what we all should strive to do.
I was surprised you had trouble getting into my blog ~ maybe some of the jokes are a bit risque!! I am happy that huge tree has gone, with all the balls and rubbish drifting over the fence. Glad you liked the story of the Boy and the Puppy. It seems the bonde guys take things more seriously than the blonde girls. Thanks for visiting Robyn. Take care, Regards, Merle.
PS Great post BTW

If I were going to skip church this morning (which I'm not) I would be okay because of this post. Well done.

Well, I did skip church this morning, so thanks for the Bible study lesson.

I actually had a sitter for Nathan and my grandson, Jacob, so I could go to church ... but alas ... we had blowing snow and drifts and temps in the single digits ... so I stayed home snug as a bug in a rug ;)

AMEN and AMEN!!

Life is precious.
You've made that point very well.
Life truly is precious.
