Two Shoes Tuesday # 8 -- "Blue" / MidWeek Blues
.
This is a Guffalo plush toy. I don't know why, but our granddaughter, KP, calls it that. Mrs. Jim says it really is a buffalo. She may know why it is not a guffalo but if so she doesn't share. KP can say buffalo.
The blue baby outfit didn't come with the critter, KP put it there.
Now this: Josie said: "Get ready for the next round of Two Shoes Tuesday... a place to share what we enjoy doing most... writing! Each week I'll provide a one-word writing prompt and ask you to share a short story, poem, essay, thought, or photo relating to that topic."
The writing prompt for Tuesday, October 23rd will be "blue"!

When I think of 'blue' I immediately come to think of Carl Perkins' song "Blue Suede Shoes" which was recorded first by writer Carl Perkins and soon after by Elvis Presley. The lyrics, in part: http://www.oldielyrics.com/lyrics/carl_perkins/blue_suede_shoes.html
"... You can burn my house, you can steal my car
Drink my liquor from an old fruit jar
Do anything that you wanna do
But uh uh honey lay off of my shoes
But don't you, step on my blue suede shoes
Well, you can do anything
But lay off of my blue suede shoes ..."
The song was written as a side remark from singer Johnny Cash that Perkins write a song about 'Blue Suede Shoes' very similar to the meme caretakers post a weekly prompt word or picture or such for us bloggers as writers and would be writers take up the challenge. Carl did take up the challenge and his song with Carl singing it became No. 1 on the charts.

"Johnny Cash planted the seed for the song in the fall of 1955, while Perkins, Cash, Elvis Presley, and other Louisiana Hayride acts toured throughout the South. Cash told Perkins of a black airman whom he had met when serving in the military in Germany. He had referred to his military regulation air shoes as "blue suede shoes." Cash suggested that Carl write a song about the shoes. Carl replied, "I don't know anything about shoes. How can I write a song about shoes?"[2]
When Perkins played a dance on December 4, 1955, he noticed a couple dancing near the stage. Between songs, Carl heard a stern, forceful voice say, "Uh-uh, don't step on my suedes!" Carl looked down and noted that the boy was wearing blue suede shoes and one had a scuff mark. Good gracious, a pretty little thing like that and all he can think about is his blue suede shoes, thought Carl.[3]
That night Perkins began working on a song based on the incident. ..."

This is too cool, Jim! I remember the song well, and can hear Elvis singing it in my head, but I didn't know the history behind it. Thanks for sharing and for joining me at Two Shoes Tuesday! Enjoy the rest of your time in England. I think that Guffalo is mighty cute, it made me smile when I clicked on your link and saw it. :-)
I remember Blue Suede Shoes - or at least hearing it. I love learning the history behind things as well. Your granddaughter is gorgeous and she can think that little buffalo is anything she wants too! lol Are you having fun???
Okay, now that song is stuck in my head. It's a good thing I like it like you do.
Have a terrific day Jim. :)

I have no off-spring of any kind, so the guffalo is lost on me....however, I did like the song, but my first thought for blue would be 'blue moon'...thanx for sharing this.....
Hi Jim ~~ I always liked that song and knew that Carl Perkins wrote it. Nice to see and hear it again sung by Carl.
The guffalo is cute and much too nice to be a savage buffalo.
I like W for Wisdom because we can never have too much and never stop learning. And we can learn something new every day.
It seems everyone loved Red Skelton according to the many mentions of him in my comments. He was a great commedian and never a swear word or anything crude. He was great.
I hope you ans Mrs Jim enjoyed your time with Karen and her family. KP is at a good age now to hold a conversation. It is great they can visit again at Christmas.
I am lucky to have so many family that seem to enjoy their visits. Not a lot of fun visiting an old lady I would have thought, but we always manage to laugh a lot
Take great care Jim, Cheers, Merle.
