My golf ball laughed at me — MidWeek Blues — for my whole game
[large picture] [extra large]
In case you have trouble reading this, it says (first line) "?", (second line) "Haa". Third line is printed upside down for some reason.
Printing on the cart dashboard tells how to drive the electric cart.
How would you like to look at that laughing ball every time you were to hit?
It's almost depressing.
Fourteen fellows from Mrs. Jim's Sunday school class go golfing on Tuesdays.
Lately they have been inviting me and for the first time I went along with them.
Before the weather wasn't nice enough for an old fellow like me. This Tuesday was really nice. We are hoping Spring is here to stay.
Here we are finished and are on our way back to the cart barn.
Our three-some was following these fellows in two more carts. And further behind the last foursome were still playing. They had stopped for a sandwich and some others had played in, going ahead of them.
Ten of us had stayed to chat a little and wait for the last four to get in.
From left to right are Jim O, Tom R, Jim R, Joe R, Jim H (me), James C, and Doyle B. Not show, taking picture, was Jack H. who played with John M. and I for our threesome.
We left just in time. The course is the Raven's Nest Golf Course in Huntsville and belongs to the University of Sam Houston State University. I say just in time because a golfing class came out for their golfing lesson which must start at 3:00 PM.
Huntsville is about 28 miles north of us on Interstate 45 leading out of Houston, Texas. Huntsville was the home of Texas first president, President Sam Houston, when we were our own country. He was also the first governor of Texas. There is a very fine museum in town honoring him.
Huntsville is also famous for this statue:
Cousins Jack and Linda from Nebraska standing by Sam HoustonFor more about the statue on my blog, please click here.
If you want to post a MidWeek Blues picture, go get directions from Rebecca by clicking on the logo picture on the right. She has a Mr. Linky and good directions . Just do what I did. .Labels: Family, Friends, Golf course, Jim Does, Sam Houston, Texas

We had a happy Sunday -- The Jim Bunch eats again, then we went to the City of Houston Herman Park for a while
Son Tim e-mailed the Jim Bunch last week to have a get-together at Niko Niko's Greek Restaurant. Megan was coming home from Austin. She is graduating from the University of Texas this May with a Masters Degree in Accounting.
That is pretty good, she did it all in five years with extremely good grades. And never once did she change her major. [Her Grandpa Jim changed his three times at the University of Nebraska and three times at the University of Houston, just in getting his bachelor degree.]
At the end here, are Megan and her boy friend, James. We all like James.
Here we have the Jim Bunch, mostly candid this time. Sorry guy, if you weren't looking at the camera.
Missing were grandkids, Tim and Renee (live out of town) and BP (she had other places to be), then kids Karen, Billy, Mitch, Carmen, and Mike. A couple of kids were working, three were playing golf.

After lunch, Mrs. Jim and I drove over to the 445-acre (1.80 km²) Herman Park (link 01)(link 02).
Everyone is proud of the new Herman Park Train. We haven't ridden this one but sure did ride the other one, a lot. Kids and grandkids all liked it when they were young. Mrs. Jim and BP rode that old one just this winter.
[large picture] [super size]
The Herman Park has a really nice Japanese Garden too! We didn't get to stay long there because it closes at 5:00 PM until summer time. (link)

The bridge and pond above remind me of Monet's works at Giverny. Mrs. Jim and I want to go there before we get too old for things like that.

That's General/President Sam Houston at the end of the reflection pool. [large picture] [super size]
We didn't rent a paddle boat but you do that.

There is the Museum of Natural Science, the Cockrell Butterfly Center (link), a planetarium, and a very nice IMAX Theatre if you want to stay cool in the air conditioning.[large picture] [super size]
Walking to the Museum, we saw this orange flowering fruit tree in bloom (in the center of the picture).[large picture] [super size]
The steps here are in front of the Museum. They lead to a huge sun dial where there are always a bunch of kids playing something similar to hopscotch among the numbers.
What we didn't see were the 4500 animal Houston Zoo (at Herman Park)(you gotta see this link to the zoo and all other attractions at Herman Park, the Miller Outdoor Theatre, and the 18-hole Herman Park Golf Course (click here for a free round of golf).
All three of these are Houston Texas size, that means real big(!!). If you haven't been there, please visit the Wikipedia article, you will be impressed. Come visit us and I promise we can go there!

Adi, Scones (the Jim Bunch eats again), and the Alabama election - or, This, That, and the Other
She can eat with her doggie halo on if I hold her bowl up. She really doesn't like to drink that way. Also for small treats she can do with it on, we don't give her the larger ones as she can't get off the floor the part she bites off and puts there for her second and more bites.
So for meals, I take the doggie halo off. She eats, drinks, and goes outside for a brief moment. Then it is back with the collar.
Mrs. Jim made these scones yesterday morning. There are large ones and small ones. Yesterday I had three, Mrs. Jim had two. So far today each of had one as we did a little cooing and exchanged Valentine's Day cards and boxes of chocolates.
What you see besides the scones are jars of strawberry preserves, raspberry preserves, and lemon curd. My coffee goes very nicely with all this.
Thank you, Mrs. Jim!
This is a nice picture. A lady in the Sam Houston Monument Visitor Center arranged it. She carries Flat Man (inside the Texas Cutie shirt) everywhere and gets a lot of pictures. Her seven-year-old nephew sent her Flat Man for the summer. This fall she has to return Flat Man before school starts. He goes and attends with the boy.
Now, for the Alabama primary election news. They are going to do it all over again, I'll tell you why. I got this e-mail, from bro-in-law:
Alabama Primary Votes
Did you hear they're having to recall ALL of the primary votes in Alabama?
Yep......darn shame, too! It seems somebody intentionally misprinted the
democratic tickets by placing a G in front of Obama.
So,Everybody in the state voting checked 'that' box because they thought
it read >>> GO BAMA!
Ooooh, My !!!

We would not be that careless in Texas. Besides that we have so many football teams it would not change the vote one bit. Poor Alabama.

"Everything is bigger in Texas"
You can read all about this large Sam Houston monument at RoadsideAmerica.com. Jack and Linda were amazed. Long before they were leaving Texas, they too were saying, "everything is bigger in Texas."
