I ended with the view from Pablo Neruda's home.  It is atop the hill, looking over the harbor and out to sea.  Inspirational for some nice poetry.  Read of this world famous poet here, my blog entry of his home here(the bottom part of the posting), and read more of Valparaiso here.

Weekend Roundup with "M";

The 13th issue of Weekend Roundup for this year...
- the Letter "M" Prompts are:
(A) Starts with "M"; (B) A Favorite; (C) Many; and (D) Reflection(s).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asGhCioHqow

(A) Starts with "M":  "Monkey" starts with "M".  This Monkey in his cage lived on the grounds of the hotel we stayed in at Huehuetenango, Guatemala,  near the orphanage we lent a helping hand to.  We were there in October of both 2007 and 2008. (Guatemala things on my blog link)

(B) A Favorite: "M&M's" are my Favorite 'common' candy. They come in a sack and are found in many places, from grocery stores to vending Machines.
Our daughter alternates between having a large Red Hot chewy candy (Hot Tamales) and some sort of chocolate candy for the season.

(C) ManyMany penguins inhabit the Falklands. There we visited a Penguin Reserve.   We spent a happy afternoon riding with the 4-wheelers through the bogs to where the penguins were.  (Go Read about it)
[click on pictures for larger size viewing]

(D) Reflection(s):   These couple of pictures I took on my going-to-the-mail-box walk.  I took the top because everything looked dumpy down by the stream.  Even the tree reflections seem dumpy.  Perhaps the bird set the mood for the afternoon.

The second I took for getting a record of  all the turtles sunning on the bank.

Weekend Roundup -- 26 -18(b) (for letter "Z") and Reflection(s) too

The 52nd issue of Weekend Roundup for this year..:
A Word with a "Z";
A Favorite;
"ZZZ" as in sleepy; and
Reflection(s):

(Picture to the right is of a Zippy Fairy riding down from the furniture top on a Zip Line.)

(click picture for a larger size) ....

(1.a) A Word with a "Z": Breeze has a "Z" in it. Here we were docked at Ushuaia down at the bottom of the world (Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego Province, Argentina) (Link), just above Antarctica. The wind was blowing hard, the breezes were so bad that we could not lift anchor until the next morning to sail away.
(note the reflection in the window)

(1.b) A Word with two "Z's": Pizza has two  "Z's".

(1.c) Another Word with a "Z": Mazada has  a "Z", this car also has a dent in the rear.

(1.d)  Then in our part of Texas, the Texas Gulf Coastal Plain, there's always the mudder who go mudding in the rice fields and bogs.  This Chevy Z-71 is mud from top to bottom.

(2) A Favorite: I love to find old Zombie Trees along the roadside.  Here my new to me Favorite was at our old haunt, Montgomery. Texas.

(3) "ZZZ" as in sleepy:  While "the kid", our youngest of the six, was tucked away getting her "Z's" her fairy friend was riding the Zip Line in her dining room.

It just so happened that the mechanism got stuck and she had to spend the rest of her morning waiting for help. That was good for me. I could go by and snap a picture of the fairy in dress.

(4) Reflection(s):  Our Katy Mills Mall, near the North exit.  I can't remember exactly what I was taking, but I was impressed with the reflections in the many windows involved.  Everything, including the floor seemed to reflect something it was seeing.
(Also note the reflection in the window of our life boat across from my first title, below the first set of South Sea pictures above.)

Weekend Roundup -- 09-18(b) (for letter "I") -- Reflections too

The 35th issue of Weekend Roundup for this year...
The week's prompts:
(1) Starts with "I"; (2) A Favorite; and (3) Inside
(4) Picture on the bottom is for "Reflections"

(1) Starts with "I":  Island starts with "I".  We used this Island as a prop in our VBS (Vacation Bible School at our Church) group this summer.  We had third grade kids, 19 of them in our class.  The class numbers went from "A" to "J" so there must have been about 200 3rd grade children total.

Our story was the story of David, who rose from a shepherd of sheep to the King of Israel.  As king, he was "Captain of his ship" for sure.  The theme used a series of stories of David as he ruled his country.

The side story series was of a Captain of his ship having the problems a captain might need to overcome.  David had similar but in a more serious vein type problems. (And the ship story the Island was a temporary haven.  One of our adult class members made this Island, Thank You John.)

(2) A Favorite:  Looking through my recent pictures for a favorite I found this nice picture I had taken of a recent comic strip.
I'll tell the them of the story here:  The dog loved to ride, he ranted on how happy he was to get out with the traffic.  In the last frame his care giver tells him that they haven't moved for hours because they were stuck in a traffic jam.  That didn't phase the dog, he just liked to be in the car having an activity.
If you can't read that explanation and want it, try highlighting the blank area above.

Another Favorite:  At the right is a picture of Mrs. Jim and me in costume for a party way back in the early 2000's.  No, it isn't near recent but I just found it again this week.  Recent.

The party costume is homemade, Mrs. Jim's creation: black sweats wearing white stockings over our heads; and a lamp shades for the hats; finally Lamp pulls hanging on our noses.  Got to turn on the lights somehow.

BTW, our daughter Karin liked the shades and asked for them.  She still uses them on a buffet in her breakfast room.  Pottery Barn stocks a lot of nice shades, we got these there.

(3) Inside:   Ever cut a corn dog open and look Inside?  Above is what it looks like.  Our nine-year-old granddaughter, KP, likes them this way.  Except she uses ketchup and not mustard.

So that gives it away, I sometimes eat them this way as well.

(4) Reflections:  Self explanatory, this is the front mounted camera on the Cruise Ship, Royal Princes.  You can see all the Princess ships' cameras views here. https://www.princess.com/bridgecams/?shipCode=pa

The link should open with Pacific Princess as that is our favorite Princes ship.  We took it from NYC to Iceland on to England and again on another cruise over into the Black Sea to the Ukraine.  Those and the cruise from Los Angeles down to the Antarctic and back up to Rio de Janeiro (on another Princess ship) Brazil.

- - - - -        The end, that's all for tonight

Weekend Roundup -- 04-18(b) (for letter "D")

The 30th issue of Weekend Roundup for this year...
The week's prompts:
(1) Starts with "D"; (2) A Favorite; and (3) Double

(1)  Starts with "D":  "Dirt Paths" to follow with a four-wheel.  Aka "Driving through the Marshes in the Falkland Islands."

More Photos:

Our driver -- She was the only one
of our convoy who did not get bogged (stuck)

(2)  A Favorite:   Drawing by a third grade VBS guest.  Mrs. Jim and I have been helping our church, 2nd Baptist of Houston, 1463 Campus, with their Vacation Bible School.  The assignment was to draw what a child in a disadvantaged Houston neighborhood school would see from her window while dreaming that a truck or boat out there would stop with some school supplies for their school.

I can't imagine what all came into mind with this assignment but things here seemed abstract to me though only the young artist and possibly the school child in mind could know.  A school that our church has adopted will be the recipient of the offerings money donated during the Bible School.  The boys and the girls are having a contest to see which group would raise the most money.  So far the boys are ahead but it is predicted for the girls to win.

[Google Images, these are from Pinterest.  You can see better here.]

(3)   Double:  I was thinking of "DoubleMint chewing gum."  I did find these old adds by googling "Doublemint chewing gum advertisement."  Doublemint was my favorite but now I don't chew gum as I am afraid of losing a tooth or a filling.
