A Favorite
Tom's request, "Various": A couple of my various toy cars. My 1:18 scale model car collection is in the 30s, most are still in moving boxes from our move nine years ago to Katy to be near our daughter's family.
More than half are ones similar to the various Fords that I owned or wanted to own. My school car was for a few days a 1937 Ford until Dad traded it in for his 1948 Ford pickup which I drove to school my last two years. I always wanted a 1964 Ford Convertible.
A Lagniappe: I did give myself my 1998 Ford GT Convertible as a retirement present to myself in 2000.
It is now a Texas antique car. I drove it Monday to a car show, top down before it got too hot. After a stop at the grocery store I drove home top-down still and air conditioner on.

Starts with "M": Milk is my "M" word for this go round. This picture is a Brown Swiss Milk Cow with the same features as my FFA, Future Farmers of America, project for my junior and senior Ag activity and class.
We took her home from a calf auction when she was small, just a few months old. That was for my sophomore year, I fed and cared for her, she was a pretty young heifer at summer break time. By graduation time next spring she was a good Milk Cow. We separated her from her little calf the day it was born, and she joined our small Milk Herd.
All school FFA animals at our school must have been named. Guess the name I gave the calf. Now highlight the next blank space to see if you guessed right.
I named her "Brownie".
The cream we separated away from the Milk and sold it to the local creamery. My cow's Milk was rich with cream.
A Favorite: Monster Jam (we didn't get to see)
For Tom, "Mild": 1947, who all can remember, Pall Mall cigarettes slogan, ". . . and they are "Mild." I do.

| You can see the frost build up and it was defrosted a couple of weeks ago. |
Starts with "I": Our small freezer is beginning to be an Icebox, as it fills with frost way too fast. I think perhaps the door seal has worn. Icebox starts with the letter "I". Read here, in Wikipedia, about the early iceboxes, "the non-mechanical refrigeration appliance". I don't remember ever seeing one, as we lived on a farm and didn't get electricity until 1938. At the same time the folks purchased a refrigerator.
A Favorite: These are a couple of Ivory Carvings the Mrs. Jim inherited from a retired military officer's wife. They sit on a bookcase shelf in our living room now. Ivory cuttings are the death of the elephant many times because the illegal hunters kill for them. [I may take another picture in the morning with better light.]

For Tom, the word, "Ice": Ain't she cute! We got down to 22°F that night in 2007 shown here, so we dripped the outside faucets. [Adi was our Beagle dog, she died in 2012.]
Look closely for the icicles. The piece of Ice you see sitting on the pipe was from a big icicle about 18 inches long that fell from the faucet and broke. I have a piece of it sitting on the sprinkler pipe. The other icicles are on that weed to Adi's left, your right.
A Lagniappe:
"Blue Bell Light Homemade Vanilla" was our favorite for a long time. Back when Blue Bell was shut down due to a bacteria run loose in their plants. Finally, this Light variety, was the last to start production, months behind the regular flavors. It was also Adi's favorite. (link). But after the COVID Blue Bell stopped making it. That was when we stopped eating Blue Bell brand altogether.  |

Letter "B" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 12 and Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures

[Adi goes wild when our daughter came to visit]
Starts with "B": Beagle starts with "B" so I'll tell about my Beagle dog, Adi. She was born in 1996 and first came to our house as a pup. Adi was our daughter's but keeping her was more than she could handle so she came to us and was with us ever since, except for one time when she came for a short spell to the daughter. Above is a picture of her greeting the daughter when she came to visit.
When I retired in 2001, Mrs. Jim, a retired social worker did some preemptive professional application by suggesting that Adi and I could become a Pet Therapy Team for me to keep a little bit occupied. (Ladies, this a good thing to do for your husband when he retires.)
We both made the rigorous testing and soon passed into the new field and became a Registered Pet Therapy Team. Adi loved her part of the work, she was also a reading dog and tutored a sixth grade boy so he could pass his required skill level.
Both Adi and the child enjoyed their sessions.
But also she liked visiting the elderly. We became regulars with Assisted Living and Alzheimer's afflicted at our local facility. We continued with those until Adi retired in 2012. She received a nice letter from Delta, the registering society, you can read the letter here,
Adi and I were buddies and we have her ashes still.

A Favorite: My Bucket List is one of my favorite daydream sites. In 2001 when I retired, travel on my list was three, the Panama Canal, China, and Moscow, USSR. I quickly did those and many more (I didn't start blogging until 2006 so only Moscow made this blog, right off we went to Sicily for two weeks so that was my first to make it here).
I've removed lots of items, like touching the South Pole, winning the lottery, and owning a Corvette.
Some are still there, maybe still open up to 100 and some more things I have forgotten.

Tom's word choice, "Big": There is a U.S. saying, "Everything is Big in Texas". This is a photo of a statue north of Houston with my Nebraska cousins standing in front. It is of Sam Houston, Texas' first and third president back when we were a stand-alone Republic. He later was a U.S. Senator.
(Note, Sam Houston was not a Civil War hero, and he resigned his post after Texas seceded from the Union. He did own slaves as were helping on most Texas plantations.)

For James: Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures: There is a 'slight' reflection in the pond above the falls. This a walk picture. Going here takes about 16 minutes at our rate, the round trip gives us plenty for our 30 minutes, one day of five we like. Below the falls is a small pond and then a Bench if our legs say. "Please give us a rest "

A Favorite: This is Mrs. Jim's favorite decoration for the season, he is her Santa's helper. Her college was LSU but it is hard to get LSU stuff here around Houston.
He stays either under our tree or on the hearth. We got him a few years ago at an After Christmas sale in Houston. One side of his sales tag says "Handmade" and the other's said "Made in China".
Tom's suggestion, "Yak": The Coasters, Yakety Yak. This song was an original hit in 1958. It was one of my favorites.

Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures: The top photo has the "banked" turtles reflection in the water. Not to brag about, the water was rippling.
The lower picture shows the heads of three buddy turtles swimming. Can you see them? There might be another two or more.
The turtles hang out around the bridge was standing on, it's our favorite walking path.

Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures: This woman had told me that the empty chair "was taken". But it remained empty the whole half hour show. She wouldn't look my way, I had found a lessor place and took this picture half way through the show. [from our October cruise on the Regal Princess, 12 days, from Ft. Lauderdale to Galveston, Texas. I was running away during my BIG birthday on October 30--that's why no posts for a couple of weeks.]
