~~ Friday’s Hunt v.3.01 -- "A" is for ...
Friday's Hunt for the week of January 6th: 1. Starts with A;
2. Week's Favorite; and
3. Beginning
2. Week's Favorite: We had a "friendly stranger" take our picture but I didn't find it very quickly and I'm running late tonight so I put this cute one of Mrs. Jim instead.
She is standing in a field reserved for Penguins. We were on the Johnson Farm at Volunteer Point in the Falklands. We were advised before we left to get some foot protectors for keeping our shoes clean from the Penguin manure, as their habitat is very messy, messier than a chicken house.
The Falklands visit was a part of the second half of our South American Cruise. We left Los Angeles on December 4th and left Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on January 4th, getting back to Houston on the morning of January 5th.
The cities we visited on the second half were Santiago, Chile; Punta Arenas, Chile (Google); Ushuaia, Argentina (Google)-nicknamed "the end of the World."; The Falkland Islands (Google); Montevideo, Uruguay (Google), Buenos Aires (Google); and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Google).
The boggy ride I told of last week was of our ride out to Volunteer Point to see the Penguins. I'll more about the Penguins later ("P's" perhaps?) and maybe show more ride pictures.
1. Starts with "A": Amethyst gemstone (Googled: https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGHP_enUS574US574&q=amathist#q=amethyst)
The Amethyst here is the pink quartz rocks. We found these at a table vender in a park, located in Montevideo, Uruguay. Pink Amethyst is the national gemstone of Uruguay. Amethyst is also the state gemstone of South Carolina. The hollow stone is also quartz Amethyst stone. I think the vender said that all were Amethyist but I'm not sure. I am sure that I didn't buy any although I believe they weren't very expensive. Or of very high quality.
3. Beginning: This afternoon I stopped at my friendly NAPA auto parts store in Montgomery, Texas, and picked up my 2017 NAPA Classic Car Calendar. The car for January is a 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible. You may remember these, I do. I have a collection of the NAPA calendars dating back to the second one in the 1970's.

Note: The King Penguins' little ones are Brown during their first year. Like most humans are born with blue eyes but change them to blue or green the first week or so.

~~ Friday’s Hunt v.4.21 -- "U" is for ...
Friday's Hunt for the week of November 24th: 1. Starts with U; 2. mosaic/collage; and 3. “I ate this”Mrs. Jim's Brother and Sister-in-law visited us over the Thanksgiving Holidays. Both Mrs. Jim and her brother are LSU Alumni.
1. Starts with "U":
"U" is for "Uruguay", there on Mrs. Jim's Birthday, January 1, 2017
"U" is for "Under" -- "Under the 'balloon drop'". What do people do underneath a balloon drop anyway?

What do they do at the drop? First, they wait and wait. Then they look up or down on the balloons falling. Lastly, they stomp all the balloons until all are broken and the floor is ready for dancing. A few will save a couple to take home to show the kids.
2. mosaic/collage: I think this would make a beautiful Mosaic. I might try it.
This picture was part of the decorations on our cruise walls. It was for sale.
If you don't like this then try the Breakfast Dish below or the half eaten Texas Cinnamon Apple Fritter I picked up this morning. I am not particular. I hope our 'Teacher' isn't.

Weekend Roundup with "M";
The 13th issue of Weekend Roundup for this year...

(A) Starts with "M": "Monkey" starts with "M". This Monkey in his cage lived on the grounds of the hotel we stayed in at Huehuetenango, Guatemala, near the orphanage we lent a helping hand to. We were there in October of both 2007 and 2008. (Guatemala things on my blog link)
(C) Many: Many penguins inhabit the Falklands. There we visited a Penguin Reserve. We spent a happy afternoon riding with the 4-wheelers through the bogs to where the penguins were. (Go Read about it)
(D) Reflection(s): These couple of pictures I took on my going-to-the-mail-box walk. I took the top because everything looked dumpy down by the stream. Even the tree reflections seem dumpy. Perhaps the bird set the mood for the afternoon.
The second I took for getting a record of all the turtles sunning on the bank.

(B) A Favorite: "M&M's" are my Favorite 'common' candy. They come in a sack and are found in many places, from grocery stores to vending Machines.
Our daughter alternates between having a large Red Hot chewy candy (Hot Tamales) and some sort of chocolate candy for the season.

Weekend Roundup -- 12-18 (for letter "L")
The 12th issue of Weekend Roundup for this year...

I eat most of my Liverwurst on soda crackers, saltines. But I like best a liverwurst sandwich with Lettuce and Mayo. I remember once at a NYC deli, my sandwich had Liverwurst about an inch thick.

(2) Week's Favorite is Mom's Egg Scale (see below). When I was growing up I
lived on a farm. We grew crops, corn and oats, and feed the harvest to animals from which we sold their produce, eggs and cream, or the animals themselves, cattle, hogs, and chickens.
The chicken end was pretty much Mom's, the feeding and growing and the care of the eggs that the hens would lay. Saturday night found her cleaning the eggs that were produced for the week. Often I would 'help' her as it was a good time to have Mom just for myself.

A Large egg weighs 2 ounces average. Officially 12 Large eggs packaged together should weigh 24 ounces which makes each Large egg weigh approximately two (2) ounces. My egg is a Large as it points directly to the "24" on the scale.
It is hard to read but it say that eggs are not sized individually, but rather sized by the combined weight of one dozen eggs. That explains that each of the packages, from Kroger and from Trader Joes each contained a few eggs weighing less than two ounces.
Mom was a city girl when she married my dad. Her farm duties also were to pretty well take care of the very large vegetable garden we had. She would have a row or two of flowers also. My sister Lois (link) and I liked to help her there as we could eat the fresh vegetables we picked or pulled out of the ground, carrots, radishes, tomatoes, melons, and strawberries.
(3.a) Long: It was a Loooong Game, but my Alma Mater (one of them), the University of Houston did win their first game of the NCAA 2018 Tournament against San Diego State. Then Michigan beat Houston by one point in a nail biter. Last night Michigan beat Texas A&M by 27 points, 99 to 72. Now all the Texas teams have been eliminated.
(3.b) Long: It has been a Loooong time since I have seen a bedpan like this enameled one. Most are plastic anymore.
I found it in a resale and boutique store in Farmerville, Louisiana, early in March when we were there. You could run up, perhaps down for you, and purchase it for $15.00 plus an exorbitant tax, 12%.
(4) Lagniappe:

I think the prettiest is the 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII is my favorite, but a Fordor instead of the Tudor shown in the picture. I also like just as well the 1931 Lincoln Coupe and the 1941-1948 Lincoln Continental. I show these cars in order above, all pictures are in the Wiki Commons and free to be used. I found these pictures at Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Motor_Company , as files from the Wikimedia Commons . There are pictures of every production model there.
I also like the Lincoln current emblem, it is simple yet striking. I found my logo (emblem at http://www.car-brand-names.com/car-logos/
Since going to The Falklands I have grown found of the British Land Rover, pictured with me here. We had just come back from riding through the marshes to and from the Penguin Preserve (link http://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/2016/12/fridays-hunt-v227-b-is-for.html ).
