A couple I purchased while in countries older cars on the roads. My favorite would be of the early model Citroen 2CV that I picked up at a tollway rest stop in France. The car here was parked in front of our hotel in xxx France.
I worked for Ford Aerospace Division, at New Hampshire and Houston, Texas from 1961 until 1980, leaving as a Senior Aerospace Engineer and get a small monthly retirement check from them for $214 per month.
And of the 32 Cars that I have owned, 15 were Fords and one Mercury. To see my list, click here.
A Favorite: My first Ford was a Favorite of mine, it was a 1952 Two Door Sedan which I had hopped up to be very fast. It would outrun, at the red light or on the road, the 1955 and '56 Chevy with a power pack and any other car that it had met and tested.
I built the engine myself; it had a 1950's Ford Flathead stroked and bored to maximum. I also ported and relieved the block and manifold and had added dual exhausts.

This one is a shiny blue 1 9 3 4 Ford three-window coupe. Envision it without headlights, having the fenders cropped fairly close to the body, and with very heavy-duty bumpers.
Oh yes, paint the number "88" on the doors and trunk and you will have our 'modified stock' oval dirt track racing car back before I got drafted into the Army. I learned auto mechanics from being a part of the pit crew and from working on the car over the weekend (once in a while I would be the driver, but our driver had experience by driving midget car races).
Our car was very fast, it would almost always win the "B" Feature race. We held it back so as to come in about third or fourth in our Heat race so it wouldn't have to race in the "A" Feature race. Occasionally we would race there but never could come in first place.

Letter "Q" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 09 / Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures

Tom's choice, "Quaint": On one of our visits to France, 2013, we went to visit Homps, Southwestern France, to ride a canal boat on the Canal du Midi. When we got there we found out that in late April they only ran the afternoon ride so we had to figure out what to do with our morning.
By unanimous vote of we three, Mrs. Jim, our youngest son Tim, and me, it was decided we would visit an old town a bit to the north.
I will show you around that Quaint little town which once had been a medieval fortress city.

The boat captain (only he and a boat attendant would be working on our little canal boat) has suggested that we drive north to Minerve (link).
That would help but since we couldn't take the tour from there (we wouldn't anyway). Still we had to have eaten and be back to Homps by 1:00.
We made it back in plenty of time for our canal boat ride. All the canal boat ride are posted here (remember to click on a picture once or twice to make any of them larger)
For sure we had not planned on going to Minerve. After our boat ride, our busy day would continue on. Old town, Carcassonne, was next on our journey. See the map below.

And what did we eat? These places here were not fast food
and there wasn't a MacDonalds. So we dug into our emergency rations.
That would be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches made in the car,
some cookies, and canned Coca Cola Light.

We hope to travel that ride again, it was really nice.

My friend, John, asked me if I minded following him to this place. He had left his camera home and wanted some pictures of a car he knew about. I never pass up opportunities to look at old cars so off we went. This is what he wanted to see again, he had discovered them earlier in the year. They are a pair of Model T Ford cars. Either 1926 or 1927, my guess in 1927. In 1927 the Model T had wire wheels standard equipment, in 1926 they were optional. Before that the T's used wooden spoke wheels.
I was surprised and delighted with the find. The last time John had talked with the owner they were not for sale. Times and circumstances since may have changed now. He doesn't know if they could be bought. I suggested that he offer to pay $1000 for cleaning the shed out if he could have the cars and whatever else the family did not want. That means work but John had some grandsons who would really have liked to help grandpa in his quest for more old cars.
I was surprised and delighted with the find. The last time John had talked with the owner they were not for sale. Times and circumstances since may have changed now. He doesn't know if they could be bought. I suggested that he offer to pay $1000 for cleaning the shed out if he could have the cars and whatever else the family did not want. That means work but John had some grandsons who would really have liked to help grandpa in his quest for more old cars.
The one on the right was for sale at a moderate price, $9,950 . It had been restored but before the restoration I imagine it looked very similar to the one John found in the back of the shed.

The front one is my favorite. Hot Rodders use them to make "T-bucket" hot rods. Most of the originals have been either restored or used up for hot rods. A new fiberglass reproduction body can be had for several thousand dollars
John is deceased now, he died about a year ago. We miss him.

A Lagniappe (2): Isn't this HALLOWEEN Tree Qute! I found it at the Houston Methodist Hospital West yesterday in one of the hallways near an elevator.
Mrs. Jim had been given a steroid shot in her hip and then we visited two friends who were having procedures there, one was outpatient status and the other had back surgery and would be hospitalized for several days. The later hoped to be home for the Baseball World Series games at home, tomorrow is to be the first.

What has all that to my Photo, taken at the left side of my bathroom sink vanity. Two cans of hair spray, the one on the right recently purchased, eight months after the one on the left? [Hint, to see answer please HIGHLIGHT the shaded areas.]
Easy, you guessed the larger can? Wrong!! They are holding Even amounts, Eleven ounces!! Next question, How? How did they do that? I don't know. Most all brands now have gone to smaller cans, look in the stores.
my Six Words
The dogs were laying all over Istanbul, on the sidewalks and, like the two above, in the grass. I have copied Twain's Chapter 22 of my old 50¢ find on eBay (link to my post about that), Traveling with the Innocents Abroad; Mark Twain's Original Reports from Europe and the Holy Land. The little golfer guy on the left, Mrs. Jim gave that to me quite some time back. He is inspiration for me as I prepare my body for all to see. I have named him, "Hole in one at the Eighteenth."
A Favorite: Egg sandwiches are one of my favorites, either homemade or McD's Egg McMuffins (pictured above), or the kind my mom used to make. Mine are very much like hers were. She put a broken yoke fried Egg on a slice of bread spread with mayonnaise. The top side slice was laced with catsup. On mine I toast the bread and put a slice of American cheese on the egg before the catsup spread top piece. Oh yes, the egg has salt and pepper on one side.
On the Egg McMuffin I remove the ham or sausage patty to eat with a fork. Sausage gets catsup and I leave the top off for it with jam and my second cup of coffee.

"... dogs," he said, "I feel them Everywhere ..." We did too!!
Twain felt sorry for them in a way and admired them in another way. He told of a Sultan who once tried to kill them all off. That was unpopular so his efforts to rid Constantinople of the stray dogs failed.
Another time he tried to ship them all to an island. Not a problem there until it came back that the dogs never reached the island. Somehow they all "fell" overboard on their way. Sounds like in our 'old' Army when a footlocker falls on a belligerent trooper or he falls down the stairs.

Reflections and/or Street/Candid: These are my neighborhood photos from our walk on Tuesday. We probably walked a mile round trip; we old folk walk slow. Different doctors separately want each of us to walk for 30 minutes, five days a week. Another, a therapist wants each of us to climb our stairs every two hours.
Lagniappe: This would be the beginning of another walk, in Paris, France, here to the Eiffel Tower (https://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/2013/03/two-paris-hotels-six-word-saturday.html ) and
then along the river to the D'Orsay Museum ( https://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/2011/02/little-culture-st-jean-baptiste-rodin.html )
and on to Notre Dame de Paris [one of the oldest gothic cathedrals in the world] all for about three (3) miles. Then we
returned using a shorter route back to our hotel on the corner where we were starting the walk, where I took this picture.
