This old Packard pickup? I am
guessing it is from1938 to 1940.
I've not seen one, they are rather
rare finds. This sight,click the link here, is a comprehensive review of early Packard cars and trucks.

SMOOTS - A Boston Tradition
If you have walked along the Harvard Bridge that connects Boston and Cambridge, no doubt you have encountered the Smoot markings along the way. These markings have helped millions of area residents and tourists measure their progress along the bridge as they walk or bike to their destination.
Question:
How long is the bridge in Smoots?
Answer: 364.4 Smoots plus 1 ear
That makes the bridge over a half mile (roughly 2763.37 feet) that these poof college students had to cross to get to their campus. That was in 1958. Of course these that was only half the walk I had back in 1951 at Lincoln, having to walk a mile to classes from my rental room. Up hill, sometimes in the rain and snow. Dad did loan me his pickup when I broke my foot-another whole story.
The students decided "in a unique way to tell how much bridge they had left to cross. So they decided to make the pledges use one of their own to measure the bridge." Smoot was the shortest, 5'7", so his measure would produce the highest number.
Oliver Smoot is now 65 (in 2005) and ready for retirement. He had been on the board and vice president of the American National Standards Institute. Right up his alley from college days. The bridge has also become known as The Smoot Bridge."

A Favorite: Our neighbor lady's father was visiting. I like his Yellow Vette.
This Yellow Kia was parked at our Kroger store this afternoon. It looks like a fun car to drive except I'd rather be driving the Corvette.
Tom's suggestion, "Yellow": I sliced this Yellow pineapple with Mrs. Jim's pineapple slicer.

Starts with "W": Wagons, from horse and human drawn to station wagon automobiles have been a part of humans' culture and convenience. Did you ever wonder about the now forgotten inventor of the wheel?
A Favorite: This year's NYC annual Rockefeller Plaza Christmas Tree is a favorite mine and many others. An average of 800 thousand persons will be viewing it each day until after Christmas. You've just now virtually joined the crowd.
Tom's suggestion, "White": Pure Snow is White. It lays on the ground and other flat surfaces. Humans and animal are the worst offenders to change its pearly color, generally to shares of yellow and gray.
The white in this crafted ice skating rink mostly comes from a well bleached bed sheet. It is a part of one of the two toy train scenes crafted, assembled, and now being displayed in the foyer of our church. Both children and adults stop for their imaginations' workouts.

Starts with "V": Volkswagon car starts with the letter "V". My 1962 VW Bug was the 9th of 32 cars that I have owned/and or used. I used the Bug for my work car in going to and from the NASA Space Center from 1965 to 1970. Then I blew the engine about 75 miles west of Houston; I had a friend tow me back into town and I rebuilt the engine on the Bug. See my car list here:

We were making a pit stop potty-wise, and not many places were open on the New Year Holiday. Not even MacDonald's. But this gas station was kind and loaned us the use of his facilities
This Little Red VW find was a beauty in my book. I'd like to have seen and heard it run. I believe it is used for street purposes. Street racing? I'm too old for that now though my Mustang GT strains at times, but I hold it back.
A Favorite: A slug-bug at that! This one's a 1955 Volkswagen, my 1:18 die cast toy car. Supposedly the toy gas pump belongs to Mrs. Jim, but I keep it with my toy cars. (see my Bug Collection)
Tom's suggestion, "Vibrant": Adi, our deceased Beagle dog exhibited Vibrant behavior when she rode in our Golf cart or the car whenever she sensed she was nearing a destination that was fun for her. Or excited sometimes just riding.

Starts with "U": Under starts with "U". Under the Bridge at Sydney, Australia. We were on a Ferry that day in January 2013. I've aged a lot since that.
A Favorite: Us at Formal Night on the Emerald Princess.
Mrs. Jim and I've been away, to London, to see the King. I missed him, but we had a wonderful four days in London. Also, we had a train trip to Milton Keynes and saw some friends who took us to a Pub for lunch. And one evening in London we had my birthday dinner with our daughter who was working there for about three weeks.
Then we bussed to Northampton to catch a 16-day Princess Transatlantic cruise back to Ft. Lauderdale. Afterwards we honored an air boating in the Everglades excursion to see some more alligators before we flew home to Houston (Texas). We've done alligator photo hunting before in Louisiana also.
Note: I only took my Galaxy S8 smart phone and google does not like it. Consequently, I have been unable to return some of your comments when "Anonymous" is not allowed. I am sorry but google can be naughty and it affects not just me and the others unliked, but also a lot of others like me who were minding their own business.
Tom's suggestion, "Up": A cross, "Christ, the Redeemer", Up on a hill seen while we were cruising out from Lisbon, Portugal. Huge reflection though it was getting dark that evening.

a busy day made busier.
Tom's choice, "Quaint": On one of our visits to France, 2013, we went to visit Homps, Southwestern France, to ride a canal boat on the Canal du Midi. When we got there we found out that in late April they only ran the afternoon ride so we had to figure out what to do with our morning.
By unanimous vote of we three, Mrs. Jim, our youngest son Tim, and me, it was decided we would visit an old town a bit to the north.
I will show you around that Quaint little town which once had been a medieval fortress city.

The boat captain (only he and a boat attendant would be working on our little canal boat) has suggested that we drive north to Minerve (link).That would help but since we couldn't take the tour from there (we wouldn't anyway). Still we had to have eaten and be back to Homps by 1:00.

And what did we eat? These places here were not fast food
and there wasn't a MacDonalds. So we dug into our emergency rations.
That would be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches made in the car,
some cookies, and canned Coca Cola Light.
We made it back in plenty of time for our canal boat ride. All the canal boat ride are posted here (remember to click on a picture once or twice to make any of them larger
)
We hope to travel that ride again, it was really nice.
For sure we had not planned on going to Minerve. After our boat ride, our busy day would continue on. Old town, Carcassonne, was next on our journey. See the map below.

After last week's Ruby
My friend, John, asked me if I minded following him to this place. He had left his camera home and wanted some pictures of a car he knew about. I never pass up opportunities to look at old cars so off we went. This is what he wanted to see again, he had discovered them earlier in the year. They are a pair of Model T Ford cars. Either 1926 or 1927, my guess in 1927. In 1927 the Model T had wire wheels standard equipment, in 1926 they were optional. Before that the T's used wooden spoke wheels.
I was surprised and delighted with the find. The last time John had talked with the owner they were not for sale. Times and circumstances since may have changed now. He doesn't know if they could be bought. I suggested that he offer to pay $1000 for cleaning the shed out if he could have the cars and whatever else the family did not want. That means work but John had some grandsons who would really have liked to help grandpa in his quest for more old cars.
The one on the right was for sale at a moderate price, $9,950 . It had been restored but before the restoration I imagine it looked very similar to the one John found in the back of the shed.
The front one is my favorite. Hot Rodders use them to make "T-bucket" hot rods. Most of the originals have been either restored or used up for hot rods. A new fiberglass reproduction body can be had for several thousand dollars
John is deceased now, he died about a year ago. We miss him.

A Lagniappe (2): Isn't this HALLOWEEN Tree Qute! I found it at the Houston Methodist Hospital West yesterday in one of the hallways near an elevator.
Mrs. Jim had been given a steroid shot in her hip and then we visited two friends who were having procedures there, one was outpatient status and the other had back surgery and would be hospitalized for several days. The later hoped to be home for the Baseball World Series games at home, tomorrow is to be the first.
