Letter "Q" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 09 / Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures
Tom's choice, "Quaint": On one of our visits to France, 2013, we went to visit Homps, Southwestern France, to ride a canal boat on the Canal du Midi. When we got there we found out that in late April they only ran the afternoon ride so we had to figure out what to do with our morning.
By unanimous vote of we three, Mrs. Jim, our youngest son Tim, and me, it was decided we would visit an old town a bit to the north.
I will show you around that Quaint little town which once had been a medieval fortress city.
The boat captain (only he and a boat attendant would be working on our little canal boat) has suggested that we drive north to Minerve (link).
That would help but since we couldn't take the tour from there (we wouldn't anyway). Still we had to have eaten and be back to Homps by 1:00.
We made it back in plenty of time for our canal boat ride. All the canal boat ride are posted here (remember to click on a picture once or twice to make any of them larger)

We had fun. I wrote more of our Spring 2009 Europe Holiday later.
A Model T Ford Garage carport/shed find -- Ruby (Red) Tuesday --
After last week's Ruby
I was surprised and delighted with the find. The last time John had talked with the owner they were not for sale. Times and circumstances since may have changed now. He doesn't know if they could be bought. I suggested that he offer to pay $1000 for cleaning the shed out if he could have the cars and whatever else the family did not want. That means work but John had some grandsons who would really have liked to help grandpa in his quest for more old cars.

My friend lost a sandal, still had one left.
What good is it having only one shoe?
If you're a bird and have half an island.
It's still an island, only half as large.

Potty Stop -- MidWeek Blues -- on the road water
[large picture] [super size it]
This lady said,
"Let's see now, he said tie the white rope aft?
And aft is ... ?"
[large picture] [super size it]
And these people are grumbling,
"We wouldn't be stopping here if Lucky had stayed home.
Or if he had learned to USE the toilet
instead of drinking from it."
These pictures were some of other boats that we saw while on our boat ride
on the Midi du Canal in Southern France this spring. (link)
It was part of one day's activities on our Spring 2009 Europe Holiday. (link)

France -- Midi du Canal Part #1 -- SkyWatch Friday (my twenty-eight) -- Our Spring 2009 Europe Holiday
Click any caption for super sized
We are off and running
Our ride would take about two hours
We would go under several bridges on our ride
Cruising along -- A friendly family
Seen along the way:
The ducks watched us go by -- Old boat, for the taking?
A lock to go through -- It's full, we are going in
On the right note the lower water level down stream
Through in good shape -- Couple watching the action
Again note now we are on a lower level,
the water in the lock is gone
We are back -- There is our car
Tim tied us up
He enjoyed his holiday in Europe, we enjoyed his presence.
Tim, our son, is a boatman by profession. He ties up large ships and barges when they get into the Port of Houston. He has been doing this line of work now for over twenty-five years.
I will post Part #2 of our Midi du Canal ride another day. For a couple of other posts showing this ride click here

Midweek Blues -- Who is driving the boat?
One more thing. YOU DON'T HAVE TO WRITE A WORD.
A simple blue picture is just fine.

I am now a charter member of the new MidWeek Blues group, maybe the second person to post, Rebecca, of Dusty Cellar is first. But she started this so she ought to be the first. They post around Wednesday I think.
If you want to post a MidWeek Blues picture, go get directions from Rebecca by clicking on the logo below. She has a Mr. Linky and good directions (considering it is for the first time). Just do what I did.

A hard day's play in France [part 1] -- SkyWatch Friday (my twenty-seventh) -- Our Spring 2009 Europe Holiday
We went to Homps to ride a canal boat on the Canal du Midi. When we got there we found out that in late April they only ran the afternoon ride so we had to figure out what to do whit our morning.
By unanimous vote it was decided we would visit an old town a bit to the north.

We couldn't take the tour (we wouldn't anyway) because we had to have eaten and be back to Homps by 1:00.
The cat was digging in the garbage
at the restaurant outside eating area.
And what did we eat? These places here were not fast food
and there wasn't a MacDonalds. So we dug into our emergency rations.
That would be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches made in the car,
some cookies, and canned Coca Cola Light.
We made it back in plenty of time for our canal boat ride. I will post from that nice ride next time.

We had fun. I will write more of our Spring 2009 Europe Holiday later.
