Letter "E" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 11 and Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures

 - Tom's this Week's Prompts:  Starts with "E."  A Favorite.  "E"arly.

Starts with "E":  Egret starts with an "E".  You can read more about this one here (she/he got killed--on the bridge never more).  Some of you probably have read about it in poem form.  I won't forget this bird.


A Favorite:  This little rabbit and his little brother were side by side under a tree Eating, nibbling on some grass.  By the time I was ready to get for picture taking they had separated so that I could only get one.   I chose the closer of the two, big brother.

Tom's suggestion, "Early":   Early to Bed wasn't the issue here, back in 2011.  (Katrin, still asleep here, died in 2013.) 

"Katrin had a perfectly good bed. But when we went over to pick her up after our return from visiting Karen's in London there was no bed for her. The lady who keeps her was out and her husband could not find the bed.

That was not a problem for the moment although I helped him look for it we both gave up on finding it. When the lady came home she called Mrs. Jim per instructions as the husband had given us too low a figure for her keep.

After settling on the fee, Mrs. Jim asked about the bed. She said to come on over. When Mrs. Jim got there this new bed was waiting in the utility room for us. Of course, it wasn't Katrin's bed, not the one we had brought.

Then the lady fessed up. Another dog that she had named (neither of us can remember that dog's name) had attacked the bed and chewed it up until it was in pieces of foam rubber scattered on the floor.

We don't know who paid for this new bed. Mrs. Jim knows the dog's owner. Either the owner or the keeper lady paid for it. We don't care who. And Katrin is happy so all is well.

Oh yes, we think Katrin had brought a toy, a little stuffed chipmunk. We think we are ahead so the toy wasn't made an issue."

We both were watching the little tugboat move our ship away from the dock where we boarded.

But Mrs. Jim (here) caught me taking her picture.  Most time she humors me and doesn't complain.  Mostly, when I'm driving she isn't real keen on that, me taking pictures.

Letter "Z" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 08 / Reflections and-or Street Captures

Starts with "Z":   Zeugma, a.k.a. Syllepsis, starts with the "Z".  A grammar term that means omitting an implied word, a verb or noun, which the reader by the mind presumes is there.  I don't think we had this in grammar school nor in high school.  Did you?

My pictorial example for Zeugma.  They were all seated at the table and began eating, and the dog. [what was the dog doing, it also was at the table eating.] 

A Favorite:  Pets will be my favorite today.  This posting may be going to the dogs anyway.

Tom's  choice,  "ZZZ":  "ZZZ", I was getting my Z's, a little snooZe, but then Jim came along and by his commotion woke me up.


Reflections and Street Captures:  This is Dutch, he didn't know we were watching him watch some birds play on the sidewalk and the street.  When he looked away, I caught this one. 


Then he saw me and pleaded to make the room quiet again so the kids wouldn't scare his birds away.  

Dutch, a Blue Russian cat, belongs to my younger daughter and youngest granddaughter.  He's still fairly new to our family.

Lagnaippe:  I can't leave the Alphabet with telling of Katrin .  She was our Toy Poodle dog, who died in November 2014.  We miss her very much also. 
Mrs. Jim 'inherited' Katrin when her real mother died of cancer back in 2009.  Basically, she has been a very good dog, a lot better for us than for her former owner.  Some links to visit:

The Letter "Q" ~~ Rev 04 - Weekend Roundup and Reflections

(A) Starts with the Letter "Q": The fruit, Quince, starts with "Q".  Quince isn't very good eating raw, even with salt. But it is delicious when cooked, pie will be my choice.

(B) A Favorite:  This Wednesday, October 30, is my birthday.  It's a big one in that I've lived so long but more so that the number does not end in zero or five.  

 Still I might run away.  I have done that before and Mrs. Jim always comes with me.



Then after a nice meal comes a good nap!

 (C) "Q" for '"Q"uiet' (Tom's choice):  Shhh!!!

Please be Quiet, dogs are sleeping.  Both of these dogs of ours are playing and sleeping NOW in Doggie Heaven.

(E) A Lagniappe for you:  A couple of Halloween Holiday Items I wouldn't want you to miss.  The Blue Pumpkins  were for sale at our local Kroger Store and the cute Scare Crow was at our church lobby for a photo op for families.

My Two Questions (you can answer just one if you'd like):

1. Does the little celebration at Halloween make you feel happier? If not, why not? Yes. It reminds me of the time that I went Trick or Treating with my kids.  Now it's grandkids and greats but someone else goes with them.

2. What is the Whacky Halloween item that you have seen, or own?  Mine is actually cute, a couple of seedy scare crow folk, man an wife. 

Bonus Questions:
1. What is your favorite "Q" word?  "Quaint" is my favorite "Q" word because I love going to antique stores where perhaps I will find something old to add to my collection.  An old toy, preferably some with wheels.  Or a cup to add to my Texas Bluebonnet Cup collection.

2. What are your thoughts about Scare Crows?  I always wanted to make a real one but never got the job done.

Weekend Roundup ~~ 04-19 (for letter "D")

The 4th issue of Weekend Roundup for this year... the Letter "D". 
 Prompts are:
(A) Starts with "D"; (B) A Favorite; (C) Down; and (D) Reflection(s).


(A) Starts with "D": "Diet" starts with "D". For a while my appetite isn't as strong as it has been. This enables me to just 'snack' for evening meals. My favorite snack is a "Diet Coke Float" made with Diet Coke and Blue Bell Light Vanilla ice cream. Pictured are the ingredients. Since my doctor visit this Monday I have kept a three pound loss. I would like to lose more if the weight would come from my middle.

(C) Down: "Downstairs" is self explanatory. Needed are a set of stairs and something at the bottom. Upstairs when I took this stairway picture was daughter Karen's cat, Amber. Downstairs we kept Mrs. Jims toy poodle, Katrin.  

We put the baby gate in the stairway to keep Katrin Downstairs so she wouldn't be eating the cat food upstairs.  It was okay if Amber would come Downstairs but she seldom did.  She did like to sleep on Adi's bed as did Katrin.  Adi was our nice Beagle Dog.

(D) Reflection(s):  Just barely visible, blackbirds preening in their Reflections on the truck doors.  (preening, Google)
Next I found this in my files, it is an echoing reflection, stair-stepping back into itself.
If you think I'm hurting for Reflections this week, I agree, I was.  But this and the top Black Bird pictures are kind of nice.

~~ Friday’s Hunt v.4.03 -- "C" is for ...

Friday Hunt for the week of July 21st:  
(1) Starts with "C"; (2) Building; and (3) Something I wear

(1) Starts with "C":  These are not my Camel Bells (if I can find them/I couldn't).  (Mine look a lot like these pictured only newer, bright brass color with engravings.  I'll tag this post with a "Camel Bells  "Label" here and with a post of mine to come later showing and telling of my Camel Bells.  Click on this picture for larger viewing or you can see the ones on the right better by themselves at http://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/503692

I bought my Camel Bells from a street vendor in Egypt, probably Cairo, in our 1980.  There to the Sphinx we did ride a camel up the hill to visit the largest pyramid.  My pictures need to be scanned to show here.

Alternative "C", Clocks in our House.  The one above is an old English pendulum clock from the 1860's.  We have some documentation on it.  It is a gift to Mrs. Jim.
Daily driver if I NEED to wake up before I wake up.
It used to be Karen's who needs an extra loud one.

Watches with history.  One is my grandfather's who hocked it to get back
home to Nebraska from Arkansas where he couldn't make a living farming.
Another belonged to Mrs. Jim's father.  She bought an uncle
a new watch to replace his in order to have this one.
Finally one has been 'willed' to me by Katrin's deceased owner.
 
Clocks on our built-in Book shelves:
Three carriage clocks, British I believe.  Given to Mrs. Jim.
 
Three French clocks, we don't have them running.  They
sit on a large secretary standing next to the stairs.Given to Mrs. Jim. 
I also have a wall clock larger than these that hangs in my 'office'.
We also have my parents Kitchen clock, about 18 inches high, windup.
And an Emperor hall clock which we bought and I assembled.

(2) Building: The Trump Hotel in Washington D.C.  No, we didn't stay there, way too many $$$$Bucks for us.  But we did go there for coffee one afternoon.  Mrs. Jim and I opted for a nice Cappuccino.  We were served in the hotel lobby.
 
 
 

This January we traveled with Karen's family to visit BP who is attending college there.  While there we went on a campus tour and attended a play she had produced.  Some of those pictures are on another post.

(3) Something I wear:  Most year round I wear golf or sporting shirts and shorts.  The color fitting me is blue.  These socks I just washed, Iwash my own clothes.  The small pair was for Adi so she wouldn't scratch the floors.  But she would not wear them.  But she didn't scratch the floors either. 
I have twelve pair of the larger ones, always I can find a mate.

My most common shoe is a pair of  sandals.  Yes, winter too.  My best ones are a pair of Dockers Gladiator sandals.  They are made of leather and really were comfortable.  But seems hardly anyone makes them of leather anymore, they all are plastic (man made materials).



Once in a while Mrs. Jim has me wearing longer pants.  That would be for social events (not all) and church things.  A small percentage do wear shorts to church, blue jeans are the leader but not nearly half wear those.  This is a picture I took at church this week.  We were sitting about half way up, on one of the second section's front row.

Cool Western Breeze, Open Window -- Two Shoes Tuesday


Cool western breeze, open window

Cool western breeze, open window,
Calmly blowing flickering flames
The candles don't seem to mind
 
Rain in pin sized droplets glistening
Sagging curtain, it's dripping wet
Worries, soon to fall, on the floor
 
Murky puddles grow, rain stops not
Once was dust, now is mud and slime
Fit for pigs, the floor doesn't mind
 
Open window lets nature in

 Katrin, our toy poodle died Tuesday last week

She died in her doctor's office of heart failure.  We loved Katrin so very much, Mrs. Jim had "rescued" her from a dying friend.


At left is Katrin last year on her 13th July birthday walking across the back porch to our back door. On the right is a very guilty dog back in 2008 when we first got her.  She had gotten into BP's toothpaste.  See this link:
