Letter "W" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 12 and Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures

This Week's Prompts: Starts with "W"; A Favorite; Tom's request, "Weather" and For James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures.

_ _ _ _

You can count the keys on this LARGE PRINT typewriter pictured below.
Please also note that it is a manual and not electric.

"Typewriter" posts, http://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/search?q=typewriter

Starts with "W": Write starts with a "W".

I write for my readers more than for myself.
For this reason, I still do the alphabet, but I'm thinking not after we reach the letter "Z" here.

Most of the four or so that respond to Tom don't return my comment left after reading theirs.  I like comments from them.  As I write this on Sunday night there have been NO COMMENTS left here on this blog for the last two weeks.

But most of my faithful readers are friends and relatives of whom I don't expect comments, not many at least.  That said, I intend to keep on writing on weekends, kind of a report on the things that our family and I are doing.  I THANK YOU VERY MUCH, you friends and relatives.

And Tom, I thank you very much too for supporting us faithful ones who respond.  I may switch to another of your blogs.

A Favorite and Street/Candid Captures:   Waiting for her ride, granddaughter.

Window view from my recliner.

Tom's request, "Weather":  Sunshine after the rain.  Cooled it down, 87F now, it was 96F before.

Letter "T" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 12 and Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures

This Week's Prompts: Starts with "T"; A Favorite; Tom's request, "T"rio; and For James, Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures.
_ _ _ _

Starts with "T"Trees, they fell right and left during out during our really rough thunderstorms.

"HOUSTON (AP) — Power outages could last weeks in parts of Houston, an official warned Friday, after thunderstorms with hurricane-force winds tore through the city, knocking out electricity to nearly 1 million homes and businesses in the region, blowing out windows on downtown high rises and flipping vehicles.

The National Weather Service said it confirmed a tornado with peak winds of 110 mph (177 kph) touched down near the northwest Houston suburb of Cyprus in Harris County.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, the county’s top elected official, said crews were still trying to determine the extent of the damage and the number of casualties from Thursday’s storms. Houston Mayor John Whitmire said four people, and possibly five, had died.

“It was fierce. It was intense. It was quick, and most Houstonians didn’t have time to place themselves out of harms way,” Whitmire said at a news conference."

A fine "Trio", Me (Jim), Ado. and Mrs. Jim
[A trio of three make for a pair.  Two Pet therapy teams.]

Tom's request, "T"rio: This is a picture of our dog, Adi with Mrs. Jim and I in 2005.  She was a purebred female tri-color beagle.

Adi was our younger daughter's dog.  She had thought her new apartment allowed dogs but then she found that they did not allow beagles.
So Adi had to come to live with us. That is me, Jim, on the right, and Mrs. Jim on the left. All three of us had just passed our therapy dog examinations. Whew!
This is Montgomery Intermediate school, where all three of us would tutor sixth grade reading students. That year Adi and I also visited folks in an assisted living home on Tuesday afternoons.
She was well liked there. We heard a lot of dog tales (worked to be a pun here) from these residents, mainly about dogs that had to stay at their former homes or were in their earlier lives.

A Favorite:  Adi is retiring from Pet Partners
.

.
Dear Jim,

Thank you for notifying us. We will be sure to honor Adi's past contribution to our Pet Partners Therapy Animal Program in our Interactions Magazine, and "Pet Partners, Retired" on our web page.

Warm Regards,
Kelly Schnitzmeier

Subject: Retirement Information Request

To whom it might concern:

My dog and I will not be renewing our certification this year.

Adi, the dog, is now 16 years old and has two major problems which make it hard for her to visit. First, she is VERY hard of hearing. Second, she has severe arthritis in her back legs.

I would like to have her classified as being retired if that is possible for us.

Dog: Adi
Breed: Tri-color Beagle, a female
Age: 16

Co-team member: James Hov... (me)
ID #: 51...

When we first started my wife, (Mrs. Jim) was also certified with Adi. Due to her having many other volunteer responsibilities she was unable to continue with Pet Partners. She was active though, while a member. Mostly she and Adi tutored reading students who needed help.

Wife, former co-team member:  (Mrs. Jim -- ID # 51...)

Additionally, I do thank you for the certificate you sent of in appreciation of our work together, Adi and me. It was for nine years of service. Thank you very much.

Jim

P

Adi is posing with her aunt and uncle for a goodbye picture. We enjoyed staying with Lois and Jim (my sister and bro-in-law). You have seen most of our local tours. From August 2, 2006 post,
https://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/2006/08/we-say-goodbye-to-iowa-and-goodbye-to.html

Starts with "N":  Now soon I need to see my sister, haven't seen or visited with her, other that messages on the cell phone for probably nine years when she came here.  Next should be my turn.

But I may have waited too long, the ladies in my life think I am too old at 90 to drive that far anymore.  Southwest is having a $39 per flight sale now close like Memphis, $80 to Iowa where Lois lives.  But I wouldn't drive straight through all the way one, up or down, but would and stop and see/visit my cousin in Arkansas who is a couple of years later than my age.

A Favorite: New Driver of my latest Antique?  Car that I got back in 2000 for my retirement present.  I would retire in 2001.  This is our younger granddaughter, now a high school freshman.

CSU April hurricane forecasts FOX Weather©
For Tom, "Nice"Nice to know information, especially for us along the Gulf of Mexico coast.

James, Reflections
and/or Street/Candid Captures:  Seems I might have posted before.  Not sure where is located but feel it's close to our home, southwest of our home.  Sorry 'bout that.

The Bride and Groom

She is my love, I carry her picture
For forty-eight (now fifty) years the Lord has been true

That day so long ago I made my vow
To have and to hold, to cherish and love

She was naïve, tender, and oh so sweet
She loved me too, she'd love, honor, obey

We've kept those vows--our love has grown still more
I'd do it again, I know she would too

Tom's choice, "Single":   We were Single before we got married, back in 1973.

Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures:  This woman had told me that the empty chair "was taken".  But it remained empty the whole half hour show.  She wouldn't look my way, I had found a lessor place and took this picture half way through the show.  [from our October cruise on the Regal Princess, 12 days, from Ft. Lauderdale to Galveston, Texas.  I was running away during my BIG birthday on October 30--that's why no posts for a couple of weeks.]

 _ _ _ _

Starts with "H": Horse starts with "H".  Most of my readers know I rode a Horse to a neighboring Country school for my first two high school years.  There were three in my class, also three in the classes before and after mine.

Minnie was a nice horse, very gentle, one we'd had since I ever knew our horses.  She sort of rejuvenated being around we kids.  She died while I was away in college in Lincoln, the University of Nebraska.

A FavoriteHouston, the Town, third largest city in the US (some say it's fourth and Chicago should be third).   This weather map for a Houston TV station on Wednesday fairly well shows the metropolitan area of Houston.   It doesn't show much of Montgemery County where we lived before moving to Katy to be near our younger daughter.

2022 stats, population 2,345K, metro area 6+M, average income $84,279 (well over our retirement income), and over 400,000 illegals. City Demographics are pictured to the right.

My cousins, Linda and Jack,standing
away from the statue of Sam Houston

There is another named "Houston", a large statue on I-45 North near Huntsville, Texas, north after Conroe.  President Sam Houston was our first and third president of The Republic of Texas back before the United States annexed us.  He also was the sixth governor of Tennessee and the seventh governor of Texas.  (bing search, "Sam Houston)

A Lagniappe:  A Poem for Min:

        To Min; my faithful pony

    Your name was Min
    best horse there's ever been
    (About you, Min)
    Dappled white with
    small spots of gray throughout
    Always there for
me to pet, brush, and stroke
    Min was Dad's horse
    Bess, older, was for us

    Soon Min grown old
    became the horse for me
    Rode her to school
    high school three miles away
    Plodged at first
    I taught her to gallop
    Also to jump
    the puddles and ditches

    Come rain and snow
was off to school we'd go
    Bareback come cold
    Minnie would keep me warm
    New friends for her,
    they, very soon she made
    Other horses
in the school barn, kids too

    Two girls we'd meet
    at the corner waiting
    Waiting for us
    to come over the hill
    Minnie first saw
    the girls and their horses
    Years quickly passed
Two in town then we're gone

    Minnie retired,
    soon after, pasture went
    I drove to school
    grades eleven and twelve
    Off to college
made new friends, boys and girls
    Minnie passed on
Heaven's horse now, was friend of mine

KP in 2016.  She's a teen now.

Starts with "D":  Donut starts with "D".  I do a brag for them; I am going on my 19th year without eating ANY donuts since 2004.  I do eat Kolache's and Apple Fritters as I don't count them a Donuts.  And I've bought a lot of donut holes for KP and other kids and a few donuts for relatives.  A poem post about that here.  In the photo at right KP has a sack of donut holes and a cholate milk.

A Trail Ride, this wagon is being pulled by a Mule Team
.
A Favorite:  I'm liking our annual Trail Ride where the 'country' folk and the wannabe country folk harness and hitch up, or ride, their horses, mules, and donkeys.  Hinnies?

Q:  What do you get when you cross a male donkey and a female horse?
A:  A mule (highlight between here
and the letter "A" to see if you are right.)

Q:  What do you get when you cross
a male horse and a female donkey
A:  hinny  (Again do the highlighting
to see the Answer.)

- Tom's Choice "Double":  Down to Double Diget temperatures this week!  Whew, those triples have been tough.  And now nights in the seventies again!

Krispy Creme Shop in London, 2011

Reflections and/or Street/Candid Photos:  Krispy Creme Donut Shop in London.  Either he looked away or didn't notice me with the camera.

LagniappeDucks at the door.  I've left my gun at home.  Also could be a "Peeking Duck".  Really, I don't know much about this duck.  It and a few others hang out by our library.  It is a nice place for them, a little pond/lake is out back with benches for duck feeding folk.  They also have babies at different seasons and are proud to show them off.  Guess maybe they are "showing" their small fry ducks "the ropes".
