Tom's "Cloud": Pretty Cloud Lining

From left to right, my inherited watch, Mrs. Jim's father's clock, and my grandfather's pocket watch. Grandpa had hocked this clock when he needed to come back to Nebraska after having found the soil was for miserable farming soil, full of rocks as well.
A Favorite: Mrs. Jim has a nice Clock Collection for an amateur.
I have three clocks, an "atomic clock" still in a box, a Western Union rectangular wall clock pictured here, and the 'inherited watch' also above. Technically Grandpa's watch is mine as well as the kitchen clock in my growing up home. I inherited the wall clock. My parents, former owners, were married in 1932. The ones you are seeing are all in Mrs. Jim's collection.

Starts with "C": Well, I 'have' a Corvette. Last week, the "B" post, I mentioned that a Corvette was on my Buckett List. Yes, I 'have' it, a toy, but it belongs to my younger daughter, a Barbie Doll Corvette. She left it here with most of her toys.
Mrs. Jim inherited these traveling clocks.
This clock was in the kitchen of our farmhouse growing up. My parents received it as a wedding present. Note in its location photo, left, is another clock in the upper right, possibly my grandparents.
Mrs. Jim inherited these three furniture top clocks as well.
Mrs. Jim inherited the antique clock on the left, the history is on the note behind the front door, see below. We purchased the newer Emperor clock on the right. I had to assemble it from mail order although they were also selling these models in kit form.
The note on the door on the bottom left above was pasted on.
It tells that the History a little of the Antique clock above to the left. The note reads,
- Thomas Whipp (maker), Rochdale Long case clocks, 1820-1842 (sources I found said "circa 1770")
- Rochdale is 10 miles North of Manchester
- Purchased in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, 5 July 1965

~~ Friday’s Hunt v.4.14 -- "N" is for ...
Friday's Hunt for the week of October 6th:
(1) Starts with "N"; (2) Silhouette; and (3) Sky

The barn here early on was used for the draft horses that Dad used to farm with, pulling plows and other farm equipment, and wagons. The horses were housed on the near side to us, West.
About two/thirds of the other half (East) was stations for the milking cows to eat in while we milked them. The remaining with the small door on the southeast corner was used for the small calves. It was in there that we taught them to drink from a bucket.

(2) Silhouette: My winter tree is silhouetted against the sky, hovering over the ducks swimming in the Potomac.
(3) Sky: A cold cloudy day in Washington D.C.
It rained later that day
I love to be flying high in the sky, above the clouds. A pretty sunset over the clouds.
Texas skies with clouds lend themselves to prettiest sunsets in the U.S.
The type of clouds determine the sunset. These wispy clouds 'just floated'.

Finally, Texas usually brags of the bluest sky. This may be true, the sky is sooo regal looking with the Texas Blue. My camera doesn't do justice to blue skies.

SkyWatch Friday (my twenty-nineth) -- For my friends up north -- Have you had your car read lately? #017
Some clouds for the Midwest U.S.
We are in the middle of a drought again with burn bans all over the place.
I just though you all might want to see what our Sky looks like around here. All of the moisture in these clouds is headed north where they are getting plenty. Al Gore, please hurry up there, they are needing you!
The top picture was taken from the St. Luke Tower across the street from the Houston Medical Center. My cardiologist,
Dr. Krajcer (link), has his office on the top, 27th floor. I go every six months for tests, this time it was a stress EKG, a Peripheral Vascular Test, and Lab (blood) tests.
I will get my results Monday. No major problems expected but I took myself off one of my cholesterol meds as my muscles were deteriorating and painful.

These little cars for two were all over Barcelona. I don't know how the audio works. It could be GPS directed, 'key on the map numbers' or dial 1-900-555-5555.
Check em out if you go. I'd pick a day like we did, rain might be troubles. In more ways than one.
What Midwesterners do for fun
Looks like they are all watching the little fish swim near this Duluth (Minnesota) peer.
That is my sister, Lois, waving to us from the front white pad. (behind the guy with the red coat sitting in back of the people on the same white pad--if you were having trouble finding her)
Wait, that was a ship way out there! Oh yes, these ships come through to the port several times a day. Not quite like Houston where one or more comes every few minutes up our ship channel.Either way, both these activities are free so what the hey? Why not. Kids love it too!
NOTICE: You are not welcome in Houston and please do not come if you do not look us up while you are here!
Now back to the fish watching. The ships are gone for a while.

Tim tied us up
He enjoyed his holiday in Europe, we enjoyed his presence.
Tim, our son, is a boatman by profession. He ties up large ships and barges when they get into the Port of Houston. He has been doing this line of work now for over twenty-five years.

A hard day's play in France [part 1] -- SkyWatch Friday (my twenty-seventh) -- Our Spring 2009 Europe Holiday
This would be a busy day made busier.
We went to Homps to ride a canal boat on the Canal du Midi. When we got there we found out that in late April they only ran the afternoon ride so we had to figure out what to do whit our morning.
By unanimous vote it was decided we would visit an old town a bit to the north.
I will show you around that quaint little town which once had been a midievial fortress city.

The boat captain (only he and a boat attendant would be on our little canal boat) suggested that we drive north to Minerve (link).
We couldn't take the tour (we wouldn't anyway) because we had to have eaten and be back to Homps by 1:00.
The cat was digging in the garbage
at the restaurant outside eating area.
And what did we eat? These places here were not fast food
and there wasn't a MacDonalds. So we dug into our emergency rations.
That would be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches made in the car,
some cookies, and canned Coca Cola Light.
We made it back in plenty of time for our canal boat ride. I will post from that nice ride next time.
We had fun. I will write more of our Spring 2009 Europe Holiday later.
