Letter "I" --- Friday's Weekend Roundup 10 / Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures

Starts with "I": "Ice Cream" will be my "I" word pair this go-round. Blue Bell Light Homemade Vanilla is our favorite Ice Cream, it is made in Brenham Texas where the contented cows live. Now it may be out of production, our Kroger store has discontinued selling it.
We have visited the Blue Bell plant several Brother-in-law, Jim W came with my sister Lois here also.
This old truck was the 'modern' Blue Bell Creamery delivery in 1932 (it's a '32 Ford Model B delivery truck)
A Favorite: This is the neighborhood Gelato Mio store in St. John's Wood, London, U.K. (link) The store is on High Street, like the U.S. "Main Street", for St. John's Wood, this town in Westminster, is home for Paul McCartney now and was the old London Stomping ground for the Beatles.
Their first recording studio was on Abbey Road there, and only a block from our Daughter, KP, and SIL, who lived in London for five years, all but the last two months in St. John's Wood.
While we were in London, staying with the kids, we would make a visit to Gelato Mia more often than once a week, i.e., we were 'regulars'. The ice cream, European Gelato, was to die for. My favorite was Raspberry Amaretto in a Waffle cone.
Now for the ice creams that we eat here at home:
Tom's suggestion, "Individual": Two Happy Individuals. We brought this sheet cake to our Sunday morning Bible class to share.

Reflections and /or Street Photos/Candid Captures: I took these pictures out the back yard of our local County Library. Sometimes I will bring a lunch and eat on one of the benches here.
A Langniappe: The Isle of Man isn't a country so I'll have to take it off my country list that we've visited. It is a self-governing British 'Crown dependency,' not a country. (Wikipedia link) It is located off the coast of Britain. Though there is a ferry that goes there, we flew. My Mom's side-grandfather's family came from the Isle of Man. We visited it in September 2007 (prior blog posts).
The main thing we did in the Isle of Man was to go out North and South from Douglas, the capital city in the middle, where we stayed up to the north by train and then go to the south end via bus. Lots of site seeing. We did see evidence of the Corkhill family having been there. One lady at the Information center in Douglas informed us that her maiden name was Corkhill.
Another Langiappe: A Fairy Bridge, and Fairy Garden are on the road to the Iceland airport from Douglas. It is customary to say hello and goodbye to the Fairy as you pass. That brings good luck.
You can stop there to post a letter to the Fairy. Just leave it in his garden. Chances are (not) if the letter contains a wish, the Fairy will make it come true.

Letter "I" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 08 / Reflections and-or Street Captures
This Week's Prompts: Starts with "I." A Favorite. "I"nsect. Reflections.

Starts with "I": Isle of Man. About one fourth of my blood line is from the Isle of Man, land where the cats with no tails are from (Manx), and the people are called Manx. We visited in September of 2007.
The Isle of Man isn't a country so I can't put it on my list of countries we've visited. It is a self-governing British 'Crown dependency,' not a country. Tom's choice, "Insect": What's in the dustpan? These are the "see no bugs" of the Insect Variety "I don't see no bugs".
This is the first time I had seen them, the other night. Some of my meds I missed earlier and then were too close to bedtime ones. So I opted to take them in the middle of the night when I was up for the little room.
In preparation I made four half-soda-cracker pieces spread with PeanutButter and wrapped them up in a piece of paper towel. After taking my meds I left the paper towel on the vanity and went back to sleep.
In the morning when I came to wash up I saw many little, tiny brown bugs swarming on the paper towel. They were on the underside of the towel also so I sprayed everything to the left of the sink.
Soon I brushed them all up. You are seeing the dustpan with some of the bugs and at the back is some fingernail clippings.
Moral of the story is "If you want to see the bugs of the 'I don't see no bugs' variety just leave a piece of sweet sticky paper towel on a flat place." Then soon the place will be swarming with those little Insects.
A Lagniappe and Reflection(??): This was yesterday's Z I G G Y cartoon. It doesn't make sense to me. Especially because I can't 'see' the purpose and time factor into a comic situation. If you see please tell me why this is funny (besides being wierd) and help me with time and hurry fitting in.
BTW, Mrs. Jim. tried also but she didn't really make things sound better.

The Letter "F" ~~ Weekend Roundup and Reflections
The fifth issue of Weekend Roundup for this year, 2020...
(THE FIFTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES)

(A) Starts with the Letter "F": Fairy Garden starts with "F". I like Fairy Gardens and many flower and garden shops have, or can make you a miniature Flairy Garden to take away. Most even have Fairies to sell.
My favorite Fairy Garden Find so far has been this one on the Isle of Man road from Douglas to the airport.
The road separates, going and coming, to go around. The folks stop and tack or pin a note to the tree in the middle where the Garden is. If the fairy reads your note then he will probably see to it that your wish is fulfilled.

(B) "Full" (Tom's choice): This container is Full of Colored Milk Chocalate Chips, made from Camel's Milk. It is really yummy, once in a while I snitch a piece.
The chocolate was given to Mrs. Jim at the Market in Dubai, UAE, after she had purchased a larger container of Safron spice. Arabia, here, and Persha have been noted for spices since very early days of the ancient traders.
(C) A Favorite: A Feathered Friend (not), a wild ostrich on a rocky beach southwest of Cape Town, South Africa. Not real friendly, they shied away from Humans. Had we some food for them things might have been different.
(D) Reflections: The hoods and windshield of the vehicles are reflection the branchwork of tree in the background.

My Two Questions (you can answer just one if you'd like):
1. When was the last time you went to the beach? You can tell about that a bit here if you wish.? Another easy question for me, it was out from Cape Town after our long cruise that we just finished. It was a thirty day cruise from Dubai to Cape Town, we were gone from December 3 to January 10.
2. What do you think of when we are discussing "Fairy Gardens"? I think of The Isle of Man. I am one quarter Manx as my Grandfather Corkhill's line immigrated from there. BTW, the Manx breed of cats have no tails.

Mrs. Jim married ed in 1974, every anniversary, and Motherd Day, Christmas, and for birthday, I give her a box of Whitman Sampler chocolate candy when I can find a BOGO OFFERED. We have a jar of Miniature Butterfinger bars and an assorted of chocolate bars we.bought on sale after Trick or Treat.

Isle of Man Holiday -- No. 01, Arrival at Douglas
We arrived at Isle of Man at about 1:30 in the afternoon. We caught a taxi to downtown Douglas where we had a nice hotel booked.
After we settled in our room a bit, we went for a stroll which turned into about a two mile walk. We walked from our hotel down the promenade to the Sea Terminal building.
[A note here, we are at Alexandria, Louisiana, today and I am posting this using the motel's WIFI.]

After we settled in our room a bit, we went for a stroll which turned into about a two mile walk. We walked from our hotel down the promenade to the Sea Terminal building.
[A note here, we are at Alexandria, Louisiana, today and I am posting this using the motel's WIFI.]

This is the Promenade. I thought you might like to see it lit up a little later in the evening also. My picture doesn't do it justice as it is very impressive all lighted up.
When we tired of the sidewalk, there would be this pretty flowering garden to walk in. We just didn't get as far as fast. But we could 'smell the roses' there. It was sunken so as to not interfere with the drivers line of sight.
We could see the "Tower of Refuge" out in the harbor. The plaque on the promenade explained why it was there. Life boats are a big deal in Isle of Man because of this fellow, Sir William Hillary. Google him, why don't you?
A typical teenager setting all around the world. Contemplating their world here, and hanging out.
Finally we got to the Sea Terminal. This was our primary destination as it housed the visitor center which was open until 7:00 p.m. Our taxi driver called it the world's largest orange juicer.
We picked up some maps and planned our BIG DAY, the next day. We decided to go from Douglas north as far as the Electric Railway would take us. And visit the island's highest mountain on the way. [Do you smell a future blog here?]
I asked one of the two ladies if she knew any Corkills. Corkill was my grandfather's family name, and it was my mom's maiden name.
The lady really surprised us when she said that her maiden name had been Corkill also. FOUND, A DISTANT COUSIN!! At the hotel, I looked in the phone book, there was a page of them in there, three whole columns and a smidgen more.

The phone worked but I never saw anyone use it. Cell phones have pretty well made these things obsolete.
