Letter "W" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 08 / Reflections and-or Street Captures
Tom's Requests for this Week's Prompts:
Starts with "W": "War" starts with "W". Here it will be for WWII time, we always fly our U.S. flag on D Day, June 6, 1944, a U.S. holiday commemorating our most costly in lives Normandy Invasion to repel the Nazi Germany's takeover of the countries of that part of the world, Africa and up.

We have visited the Normandy Beach, France, once and driven through several other times, once past on a cruise ship, that part of France but not Normandy. We were always welcomed with a friendly "Thank You" by the French people there.
The picture above is the front of our home, the flag is flying under the eve, at the edge of our small front porch. The flowering trees are Crepe Myrtles, one on each side of the house. We also have two Oak trees in the front and two small evergreens on each side of the sidewalk near the one small step up. On the left side, not showing, is the garage and driveway. To the left is a Miniature Magnolia which produces a few white blossoms from spring and through the fall. In the fairly near future we plan to downsize for the rest of our senior years.

A Favorite: A print of Larry Dyke's painting. (Wikipedia) He was painting Texas scenes at the time we bought this one, later he went to golf course impressions, and then I lost track of him.
Each of them has a related Bible reference, this one is Revelation 21:6 - "6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely." (Revelation 21:6)

Adi, our Beagle dog, had to be squeaky clean. She tolerated her bath but got really frisky after. Adi died in September, 2012.
Reflections and Street Captures: What's in the mirror behind Snoopy?
His street to ride is in our game room. Seems the Media end of the room has become a 'Junk Room'. The other end has a make-a-bed couch, two recliners, and a table and chairs that Grandpa H brought to my parents after their honeymoon. December 1932, almost 90 years ago.

The Letter "P" ~~ Weekend Roundup and Reflections
The sixteenth issue of Weekend Roundup for this year, 2020...
(THE SIXTEENTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES)

(D) Reflections.
Again this month, April 2020, I am participating in the National Poetry Writing Month daily posting of a poem of sorts. Mine are here, NaPoWri Mo 2020, for this year.

(A) Starts with the Letter "P": "Park" starts with "P". Here I was parked on the early slopes of Mt. Franklin in El Paso (Texas). I was age 21 and stationed there at the Fort Bliss U.S. Army post. This was for five years and three kids born at the William Beaumont U.S. Army Hospital. One other, our oldest daughter was born at a civilian hospital.
The car is my 1950 Jimmy Dean Mercury 2-Door. I traded it for my equity in my 1956 Ford Sunliner Convertible after I was drafted into the Army. That car was about a year old, I had purchased it new and my monthly payments were more than a Private's pay, married and two kids.
Mount Franklin overlooked El Paso and was easy to climb. I would climb up and take the cable car down.
(B) "Pair" (Tom's choice): The bird ponders a pair of pairs walking, separated about six feet apart, Governor's orders.
(C) A Favorite: A pair of Corn Dog Lunches that I made. The drink is Diet Coke, the pickle slices are Dill. I have made a lot of the noon lunches since our 'lock-in'.
(D) Reflections: Burial grounds for Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales. It is in England northwest of London quite a ways, at the family "Althorpe" Mansion and Gardens.

(E) Lagniappe: "P" is also for Pretty. This is a pretty little bouquet made from some pretty small flowers that I have picked on our daily 30-minute walks.

My Two Questions (you can answer just one if you wish).
(1) What comes to mind when you think of pairs? Mine is two Pairs of Docker sandals that I bought when on sale from Penny's. Also my firstborn children are a pair, twins.
(2) When is the last time you had a bouquet of pretty flowers? I don't remember, Mrs. Jim and I both from time to time make up a bouquet, Mrs. Jim will occasionally buy some at the Kroger grocery strore.
Bonus Questions:
(1) what is your favorite "P" word? This time it will be "Peace" I will be so glad when we can have peace in the world like years not too far back. The Bible says we will always have wars and rumors of wars.
(2) Do you have any pictures of cars you owned in the past, perhaps they are old cars of interest now? I don't have pictures of cars I have owned, especially ones before this Mercury and some after as most ofd our early pictures were ruined when ouer house flooded. I wish I had a few of those now.
(3) Have you been on a lot of walks now that we are confined. Tell about it if so, PLEASE. Mrs. Jim and I have started walking for at least 30 minutes each day, doctors' orders. Each of our doctors requested separately that we do this, on the same day. And those doctors probably aren't acquainted. Almost makes on think this was Provedential.

Weekend Roundup -- 20 & 21-18 (for letter "T" & "U")

The week's prompts:
(1) Starts with "T" and "U"; (2) Favorites; and (3) Truck and Under
I am sorry to have missed for last week. I am posting the things I had ready but couldn't post then. The picture at right pretty well shows the predicament I will be tolerating for the next five weeks. It started ONE WEEK ago
I have a broken left kneecap. I do not know how it got broken, neither does my orthopedic surgeon who tended it before and put in my artificial knee joint.
It was swollen and hurt some when I walked. I knew I should go see the doctor but I procrastinated. Then two weeks ago I was walking down the stairs and I heard and felt a cracking sound. My knee almost buckled but I caught the rail.
It took a week to see my doctor who doesn't know why it broke either. He didn't say broken into how many pieces, only that it was cracked. I will ask to see the X-ray next Wednesday at my two week appointment. In he meantime I am keep it immobilized with this brace which is supposed to limit my bending to 30 degrees. BTW, the other knee cap is broken into three pieces from a fall in 2007 (link to my reports).
My theory is that the swelling pushed against the kneecap which was thin from shaving it to make more room for the artificial joint. Or it could be that it had cracked because of my brittle bones (from Osteopenia) helped by the shaving.

I will always like the 1949 Ford Pickup., it is one of my favorite old trucks. That is what I drove to high school in town for my last two years. This one is on the August 2009 NAPA calendar that I have in my collection. Here is a link to read about me and that truck.

(1.T.) Starts with "T": Of course I would say that "T" is for Texas, first and always.

TEXANS: a. Like to brag, most famous Texas brag is "Everything is bigger and better in Texas."
b. Like their sports teams. In Houston we have Three college teams for most college sports, for sure football, basketball, and baseball. The four major colleges are The University of Houston (my alma mater), Texas Southern University, Houston Baptist University, and St. Mary's University.
The professional teams are complete and win a lot. However we did lose our Hockey team.
c. Antique and Classic Car dealer in Dallas, it is larger than any of several here in Houston. Their Web Link, https://www.streetsideclassics.com/vehicles?q%5Bbranch_id_eq%5D=2 shows their large inventory.

Weekend Roundup -- 04-18 (for letter "D")

Starts with "D" ~~ A Favorite ~~ Details
(1) Starts with "D": Dinosaur and Dragon start with "D". We found this little fellow at Puntarenas, our seaport in Costa Rica.

Our itinerary is pictured below with "Details"
Actually it is a friendly Iguana that roams the streets in town. We saw two, both were in the grass over by our ship. We did not go on an excursion here, we had done that before, an afternoon trip into the rain forest.

Our favorite stop was at the Falkland Islands where we took a trip through the marshes out to the Penguin Preserve. It was wonderful, a 31 day trip. We had a balcony, it was needed to keep from feeling cooped up. (Pictures 1)(Pictures 2)(Google Pictures)
(3) Details: Details of our 31 day cruise are summarized (can you summarize details? Oxymoron?) by reading our Itinerary in conjunction with viewing the accompanying maps.
4.a. Lagniappe: Datsun pickup. I had two Datsun pickups similar to this one. One was a 1973 and the other a blue 1975. I drove them to work and when I got the '75 I gave the '73 to my Daughter, Susie. Later I obtained the grill from the '73 and have it hanging in the garage. 4.b. Lagniappe: Datsun emblem (Starts with "D". It was found at http://www.car-logos.net/
4.c. Lagniappe: Donuguan. That food was on this sign in front of a restaurant up the street. All I know is that it should be Filipino Food as the sign says.
According to Wikipedia (read more), "Dinuguan is a Filipino savory stew of pork offal (typically lungs, kidneys, intestines, ears, heart and snout) and/or meat simmered in a rich, spicy dark gravy of pig blood, garlic, chili (most often siling mahaba), and vinegar ..." We might call it "blood stew."
