Letter "S" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 12 and Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures

Starts with "S": Sore starts with "S". I have been doctoring for a Sore Knee, partly from a fall this Thursday, got to see my Orthopedic Doctor Yesterday (excuse for being late for this Friday's post??). Nothing broken. I cannot get on either knee, formerly broken kneecaps.
I fell, tripping over my cane just after I had gotten up for the Bathroom at 4AM. The muscle behind my right knee is hurting and won't let the leg hold me up. My son-in-law and a Neighbor came and helped me to get up.
Other parts of the knee are sore as well. The knee had been hurting anyway from a dead knee joint bearing. The tissue had worn down so that the upper bone is rubbing against the bone. I have replaced the Left Knee joint with an artificial joint one back in 2011. It works wonderfully.
That may be the fix for this one now, seems the injection series did not help the noise and pain one bit. Today the doctor gave me a steroid shot into the kneecap area, it has helped somewhat. This would be parodically needed for the rest of my life, very likely.
A Favorite: Strawberrys and Raspberrys in a cake. Love them!! Our younger daughter brought them over, saving for herself a piece, as she is the only one in her family who eats this desert.

Letter "U" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 11 and Reflections and/or Street/Candid Captures

Starts with "U": Up starts with "U". Guys, never, never, leave the seat Up. (Some like the top lid up, bottom down. Makes for a rush relief faster.)
Tom's choice, "Utility": Pickup trucks are Utility vehicles. When they appear with a car front and a hauling bed behind, example, the Ford Ranchero, the Australians and New Zealanders call them Utes.
The one above is a VW Ute we found while walking in New Zealand. We arrived very early in the morning for our cruise, Aukland, New Zealand to the bottom of NZ, then over to Tasmania, Australia, and up to Sydney. So we spent the morning examining the central NZ opposite of Aukland.

A Favorite: Another Utility Vehicle that we found in Lisbon, Portugal. This is a Citroen 2CV Food Truck find in Lisbon, Portugal while we were visiting there in November. I bought an Ice Cream Bar from the owner. I couldn't find this easily, but I think there may be another letter behind the "2CV" for trucks. The Citroen 2CV models were made from 1948 to 1990. A Collector Car now they are priced in the mid $25K's and up.

Starts with "R": "Rhyme" starts with "R". This Comic, "RHYMES WITH ORANGE", is one of the ones I have on my 'Read Daily' list, the others are: FAMILY CIRCUS; ZIGGY; PEANUTS; F-MINUS, ARGYLE SWEATER, MOTHER GOOSE AND GRIMM, HAGAR THE HORRIBLE; BEETLY BAILEY; B.C.; and BLONDIE. Some days I also read BIZARRO; none is top on the list unless it's BEETLE BAILEY because I have pity on his life as I was in the U.S. Army for five years.
The Army did however merit a job, me a college dropout, with Ford Aerospace Engineer using my Army 43-week schooling in their NIKE Missile Fire Control Systems Maintenance School. There I was third in my class of 47 students. I used that job for 19 years, ending as a Senior Aerospace Engineer at the NASA Houston Johnson Space Center; that was until I changed careers to be a College Business Professor.
A Favorite: Recipes would be my favorite today. I have them scattered on my various blogs, both in use and mostly dormant now. These links will get a few of my favorites,

Being a "mid-term bachelor", i.e. single, for three years, I developed as many shortcuts as I could to save my precious time between work, sometimes 50 or 60 hours a week, during astronaut time in space, and other. (I worked in the "Mission Control Center" at the NASA Houston facility.)
You may run into a Recipe for Jim's Easy Stuffed Bell Peppers when you are viewing the others. I made that yesterday for a noon lunch, they turned out really good. There are some pictures I took too, for when I put that on 'again'.
A Lagniappe: So I developed a "Quick and Easy" method of cooking. One example is my microwave cooked egg. James thought that sounded good. Here is my recipe for "Egg and cheese sandwiches":

These are the Last two pieces of my egg and cheese sandwich.
I cook the egg in the microwave in a sprayed dish of bread slice size (if it's a lot smaller, you can slice the cooked egg through the middle and make thinner pieces to fit the bread). Cook the egg for 66 seconds at 60 percent power.
Stir the egg a bit before until the yolk and the whites are in close proximity throughout. (If you just wish to eat an egg fast cooked, don't stir, leave the yolk be in the middle and cook for 56 seconds.)
Cover either way while cooking as it may "pop" one time, or more.
Use one slice of toasted bread for open face, two for a regular sandwich.
When finished cooking lay a slice of American cheese on top while still hot in the dish.
Remove it and lay it down on the cheese (I use one slice of American cheese) on the prepared toast.
Then, or earlier, prepare the bottom slice with low fat mayo, the top with a couple of restaurant packs of catsup. Slice into two pieces.
Voilà!! A wonderful sandwich in less than 10 minutes preparation, even for two. You could embellish with a slice or two ham, chicken, or even a sausage patty. They are good on a biscuit if you have some.

Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures: I thought I'd share some of our walk pictures with you. Over three miles. Both Mrs. Jim's and my doctor's orders, not known to each other, are to walk a half hour and to do those five days a week.
Guess we doubled up this time because this walk took well over the doc's half hour. That might be a bit far for some of you but we are getting in practice 'in case' we go more traveling this summer.
All this and more walking trails are within a three-mile radius our home.
Not only our hearts got warmed but our entire body.

I could not find much about this specific car we see. In races the Abrey's enter it in the pre-1920 class. (road rally link picture) I was not sure exactly looking to find more.
BUT ANYWAY, THEY WERE THERE, ON THE STREET BESIDE OUR CITY BUS.
Tom's choice,"Grand": The last beach where we played was at the Seven Mile Beach at Grand Cayman Island.
We always call him, no matter where he is or who he really is, the Friendly Stranger. A Friendly Stranger took this picture, it has been cropped to portrait size.
Aside, he had been drinking a lot but was able to snap this one for us. We hope he didn't drown; the warm water may have sobered him up, I wonder?

A Lagniappe #1: There's a lot of Gaff that teachers have to put up with. It is no wonder that so many are retiring ASAP, most Gaff comes from the politicians and some also by the mislead parents.
The pictures are some books that teachers, and libraries, have no discretion but to follow new rules to ban them.
For this week's post I've circled all that have a prominent "G" letter in the word and its usage.
From top to bottom the words are as follows:
Ghost; Gay; Gay; and Gender.
I agree, some are not suitable for all ages, but adults should be able to read as they wish.
A Lagniappe #2: BTW, I bought a used book today, "Animal Farm" by George Orwell. Both Mrs. Jim and I had read excerpts but not the entire book.
A Lagniappe #3: I like the comics, a.k.a. funnies, but I read only about ten of the many of those in my Houston Chronicle. Five I make a point of reading and then five or six more if I feel like reading more. The top five are Peanuts, Mother Goose and Grim, Hagar the Horrible, Blondie, and Beatle Bailey.
Peanuts is my favorite, I like Beatle Bailey because he is an Army Private and I started my five years as a Private also. The other five or six I often read are Bizarro, B.C, Family Circus, Ziggy, Rymes with Orange, and F-Minus. I hardly ever read anymore.
In peanuts right now, Snoopy's brother, Spike, is visiting. He is in bad shape with the drought in the desert where he lives and came for help.

Growing up I used to read Dick Tracy, Little Orphan Annice, and Little Abner which terminated in 1977 (read more). I still have my 127 Dick Tracy camera.

~~ Friday’s Hunt v.3.14 -- "N" is for ...
Friday's Hunt for the week of April 7th: (1) Starts with N; (2) Week's Favorite; and (3) Blue
(1) Starts with N: "N" is for New. New plants for the backyard. We had a hard freeze in January and the Hibiscus didn't make it. The Rabbits ate our pansies long ago (link to my children's poem about that). So now we have New Vincas in the beds. Plus in the one bed showing we have Lilly of the Nile plants that Mrs. Jim brought here from our previous house in Montgomery for this one bed.
So now our backyard is looking pretty nice again. I can't wait until the natural water temp get warmer in the pool. KP has already tested it.
We also put in a new to us Palm tree to replace the one in the center of the ones beside the back fence. This one is a Silver Palm that is winter resistant, supposedly.
(2) Week's Favorite: I found this Driving cartoon on one my FaceBook friend's pages. I can't remember who, but it floats around I'm sure.
Mrs. Jim seems to be more concerned with my driving since we moved out of the country and back in to YUPs (Young Urban Professionals) land.
Most of the YUPs drive really fast and dart in and out of traffic. Not the peaceful Montgomery setting she's used to driving in.
I think that goes both ways, she may not. We both are good drivers.
(3) Blue: These Blue Sky pictures I took coming back from Washington, D.C. after our January visit with BP (blog link).
And then I found this picture I had taken, I don't remember why though, that I took it. But the Blue packaged cookies are to die for but the red ones are too sticky as the filling is some cooked up sticky-jelly-like concoction.
