Letter "E" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 11 and Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures
- Tom's this Week's Prompts: Starts with "E." A Favorite. "E"arly.
We both were watching the little tugboat move our ship away from the dock where we boarded.
But Mrs. Jim (here) caught me taking her picture. Most time she humors me and doesn't complain. Mostly, when I'm driving she isn't real keen on that, me taking pictures.

Starts with "E": Egret starts with an "E". You can read more about this one here (she/he got killed--on the bridge never more). Some of you probably have read about it in poem form. I won't forget this bird.
A Favorite: This little rabbit and his little brother were side by side under a tree Eating, nibbling on some grass. By the time I was ready to get for picture taking they had separated so that I could only get one. I chose the closer of the two, big brother.

Tom's suggestion, "Early": Early to Bed wasn't the issue here, back in 2011. (Katrin, still asleep here, died in 2013.)
"Katrin had a perfectly good bed. But when we went over to pick her up after our return from visiting Karen's in London there was no bed for her. The lady who keeps her was out and her husband could not find the bed.
That was not a problem for the moment although I helped him look for it we both gave up on finding it. When the lady came home she called Mrs. Jim per instructions as the husband had given us too low a figure for her keep.
After settling on the fee, Mrs. Jim asked about the bed. She said to come on over. When Mrs. Jim got there this new bed was waiting in the utility room for us. Of course, it wasn't Katrin's bed, not the one we had brought.
Then the lady fessed up. Another dog that she had named (neither of us can remember that dog's name) had attacked the bed and chewed it up until it was in pieces of foam rubber scattered on the floor.
We don't know who paid for this new bed. Mrs. Jim knows the dog's owner. Either the owner or the keeper lady paid for it. We don't care who. And Katrin is happy so all is well.
Oh yes, we think Katrin had brought a toy, a little stuffed chipmunk. We think we are ahead so the toy wasn't made an issue."

.Starts with "C": Corn starts with "C". I can't eat corn anymore, doctor's order. Nor can I eat nuts and seeds. I cheat a little, could be Fake News, but I believe that Pecans are vegetables.
A Favorite: These are Corndogs that I cooked. Corndogs, sliced dill pickles, and Diet Cokes with corn chips on the table.

Corn Dogs are one of my favorite foods. I had my first one in California, on a pier near San Franscico in 1964.
Tom's Choice, "Candy": Candy Corn Day, October 31, is always on my birthday. So every year I buy a big bag of the Candy Corn for my namesake.
A Lagniappe No. 1: A Corn Plant. There are no ears or blossoms, ornamental only. They are very easy to grow though. Even forgiving if not watered a time or two.

(B.1) "Weather" (Tom's Choice): "Cloudy with scattered contrails."
There were many contrails emerging from the clouds and visible when into the open space. That was on our way on the Westpark Toll Road to our Cardiologist's office yesterday. But I didn't have a chance to stop there (Mrs. Jim doesn't like for me to take pictures while driving) and the contrails we could see had mostly diffused by the time we could stop.
I had hoped to see an "above ground rail car" going by on the tracks to the left but wasn't lucky this day.

I had hoped to find my previous post written about my venture "driving the Wienermobile." Well, I was only driving in my mind but I got the feel of the cockpit and the wheel when it was my turn to go in and sit at the controls. I had pictures of that but . . .

(A) Starts with the Letter "L": Little Leprechaun
.We caught him! This is the mean Little Leprechaun who pushed me down the stairs while we were visiting in Ireland. I ended up falling down a few very hard stairs. The fall knocked a finger out of joint and broke my right kneecap. I'm still recovering. Read about that nasty incident (click here)
This is from BP's Snow Globe collection (click here). I'm wondering if she still has that collection. Now she has graduated with Bachelor's and Master's degrees and has a very good job, seventeen years later. The little June Bug leprechaun was found hiding out in a gift shop in Killarney.

(B) "Landscape" (Tom's Choice): The beautiful (not) Landscape viewed from the rear window of the overhead railway train going from C Terminal over to B Terminal ar the Houston Bush International Airport.
(C) A Favorite: This Lucky Little Cat is named Sugar Bear. She was a stray and my BIL took her in when she was a stray who was camping in the back yard.
(D) Street/Reflections: College students waiting for (___you name it___). Taken while driving by the Vanderbilt University at Nashville, Tennessee.

Letter "I" -- -- Weekend Roundup and Street/Reflections
THE NINTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES - The Letter "I" Prompts are: (A) Starts with the Letter "I"; (B) "Insect" (Tom's Choice); (C) A Favorite; (D) Street/Reflections; and (E) A Lagniappe.
(C) A Favorite: Taken from The Backwaters off the coast of Southeast India, near Co Chin. There we had a houseboat for our group of ten for a morning cruise on the lakes.

(A) Starts with the Letter "I": Iris starts with "I". The was our first blooming Iris last spring in our Iris bed. The Iris blossoms don't last very long but they are pretty while they last.
(B) "Insect" (Tom's Choice): More than several Insect Eaters. How many Birds on the Wire here?

Lets start with the countries. I liked them all, not really a favorite. So, Ireland gets the nod, we've been there a couple of times. Both times we had a rental car (drive on the left side of the road). It is a pretty country, not overpopulated, and they speak English. Currency is the Euro which has a better U.S. exchange rate than the British Pound. A favorite thing to do is to visit the Blarney Castle outside of Kilarney. And you will just have to kiss the Blarney Stone while you are there.
For Italy we took a Grand Circle (travel company) tour of the island of Sicily for two weeks (link). Since it was by bus, we could explore each part for about a week.
First we stayed at Palermo for a week, then Argrigento (Greek ruins there) one night, and six more nights at Taormina, a small (population 11,000) hillside town on the east coast of Sicily with a nice view of Mt. Etna. We did go onto the slopes of Mt. Etna.

Then we took a Grand Circle excursion on the Amalfi Coast for another week.
After that we flew from Naples over to Milan where we rented a car and toured Provence (France) and Tuscany a week each to finish our five week vacation.
I took a lot of motor scooter pictures when I could. A lot of women ride them in Italy. To the right we see Mrs. Jim sampling the goodies at the Market in Palermo, Sicily.

The Isle of Man isn't a country so I can't put it on the list above. It is a self-governing British 'Crown dependency,' not a country. (Wikipedia link) It is located off the coast of Britain. Though there is a ferry that goes there, we flew. My grandfather's family came from the Isle of Man. We visited it in 2007 (prior blog posts).
The main thing we did in the Isle of Man was to go from Douglas, the capital city in the middle, where we stayed up to the north by train and then go to the south end via bus. Lots of site seeing. We did see evidence of the Corkhill family having been there. One lady at the information center (above, right) informed us that her maiden name was Corkhill.

Above, to the left is looking out our hotel window to the north to the sea. Next, Mrs. Jim and I took a walk up our hill in Sorento (Amalfi coast) and could look over to the Isle of Capri.

You can search my blog for Iceland, this post has our itinerary (link) and another in the Labels at the bottom of the post.
India was a fun trip too. This one was aboard the Oceania Nautica ship in 2019-2020 with several posts using this link, 2019-20 Dubai to Cape Town . At the end we stayed in Cape Town, South Africa to spend a few days. The highlight there was a safari.
Independence, Missouri, is the home of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum (link). It is a wonderful presidential library. I have visited slightly more than half of them, seven (7) of the thirteen (13).
The libraries make a nice goal for seeing places in the U.S as surely if you go by car you will not only explore the state of the library you pick, but also the states along the way (List of all 13 links on left sidebar). We love to make a sweeping tour and try to not come back the same way we went. We have been to ALL 50 of the states.
