Letter "M" -- -- Weekend Roundup and Street/Reflections

THE THIRTEENTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES - The Letter "M" Prompts are: (A) Starts with the Letter "M"; (B) "Metal" (Tom's Choice); (C) A Favorite; (D) Street/Reflections; and (E) A Lagniappe.

 - - - -

(A) Starts with the Letter "M":   Maruchan Instant Lunch is my favorite go-to meal when Mrs. Jim and I differ on evening meal choices.   For instance she might decide to have oatmeal which makes me gag.

Those times I generally make a soup of it instead of a lunch.  Making it a soup merely involves adding more hot water. The ingredients are dried, Ramen Noodles, a few vegetables, a few shrimp, dried beef or other, and then a dash of flavor.  It can be spicy or natural.

 - For Shrimp soup to Most times a Shrimp flavored base I add 1/3 to 1/2 cup of frozen peas, slightly cooked, in the heating water along with about three shrimp cut up into five or six little pieces.

Then I add a dash of Creole Seasoning powder to suit my slightly hot taste.  I generally have another nine or ten shrimp, depending on size, to eat with Shrimp Sauce or Sweet and Sour Sauce and some saltine crackers with Cheddar cheese.

 - For Beef soup  I will hopefully (I don't always buy any of the beef lunch), add the same stuff except that for the beef I substitute one large sized frozen Meat ball, thawed and cut into 8-16 pieces, and heated with the slightly cooking frozen peas.

 - I like the latter because I can mush chew this without having to put in my top dentures.

(B) "Metal" (Tom's Choice):   This is my left knee, it has a Titanium Metal joint that "we" exchanged for the old knee joint in 2011.  You can see it protruding, but not through my skin, like a door hinge.  Its bottom is above the short dark line about a fourth of the way up in the picture.

(C) A Favorite:  "M" and "L" countries I've visited (I missed posting the "L's" last week):

Latvia

Liechtenstein (2 times visited)

Lithuania

Maldives

Mauritius

Mexico (lots and lots of times visited)*

Monaco

Mozambique

*Note:  most Mexico visits were entered from El Paso when I was in the Army stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas.

(D) Street/Reflections:  Dubai classroom taken through the window.  Note the teacher's "Magic Behavior Wand".

(E.1) A LagniappeMountain Range in South Africa near Capetown.  Sorry, the area is filled with Mountain Ranges and I couldn't figure out which one this is as there are several in the area.  It was across the Freeway that we took from Capetown getting to the wild life refuge where we had our "Safari".

(E.2) Another LagniappeMy two Ford Mustangs, a 1974 Mustang II Ghia and a 1998 Mustang GT Convertible

Letter "W" -- Weekend Roundup and Street/Reflections

(E) A Lagniappe, see below.

THE TWENTY-THIRD LETTER FOR THIS SERIES

 - The Letter "W" Prompts are: (A) Starts with the Letter "W"; (B) "Water" (Tom's Choice); (C) A Favorite; (D) Street/Reflections; and (E) A Lagniappe.
  _ _ _ _

(A)
Starts with the Letter "W":   Wreck starts with "W".   This toy truck was in a shipping or store wreck and was five dollars off.  I wouldn't give five dollars for the toy, for sure not the 'reduced' $14.98 price at the damaged merchandise sale at Walmart. Boo!!!

Have you ever been in a wreck?  Your last wreck?  One that totaled your vehicle?  What do you remember about your first wreck?

Our last wreck was with our present family car.  A man in a pickup truck rammed us and fell back, then he returned and rammed us again.  He was on medication driving his way to the hospital.

Our next to last car was totaled when we were hit in the rear by a Ford F250 truck.

My first wreck was when I was driving my dad's truck on the way home from high school.  A drunk driver drove in head first to us on that gravel road, a  road grader had graded the gravel into a ridge at the side and it kept me from pulling onto the shoulder.

I wrecked that pickup three times, none was my fault.  I have wrecked my cars several times none was my fault.  I did rear end a lady who stopped a second time going through her stop sign.  And another time when a lady slowed down before she got through her intersection.  One lady ran a stop sign onto a busy street in front of me and off my motor scooter I landed on top of her hood.

(B) "Water" (Tom's Choice):   Water to use mostly comes when we have rainy Weather.  I took this last Sunday and for today and through next Wednesday the probabilities for water changed considerably,  today 70 %.

"Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Red Ferrari Convertible?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.

Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won't you buy me a Red Ferrari Convertible?

Thank you Janis Joplin. Janis was of my genre, in fact I had a crush on her. May you RIP, you poor free soul."

(C) A Favorite:   Our youngest grandchild is looking forward now to be able to drive.  But this photo and excerpt is from my June 8, 2011 post, ten years ago.

(D) Street/Reflections:   Taken December 8, 2019 Abu Dhabi, Uni ted Emirates (Middle East, Arabia).

We were visiting a Date Store, full of dates and stuff made with or from them.   Dates are a major agricultural product for this part of Arabia.

(E) A Lagniappe:   This Model A Ford is a different one than I had last week, it was brown but also taken at our church's Saturday afternoon, May 15, "Crawfish and Car Show".  We had 175 cars, I didn't bring my mother's "Grandma's Green Mustang II" to show. (See it here), I think it is either a 1929 or 1930.  Our Tom may be able to differentiate.

Janis Joplin Lyrics (link)

"Mercedes Benz"

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV ?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV ?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town ?
I'm counting on you, Lord, please don't let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town ?

Everybody!
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

That's it!

Letter "C" -- Weekend Roundup and Reflections

The third issue this week of my 2021 WEEKEND ROUNDUP postings and ... (THE THIRD LETTER FOR THIS SERIES) - the Letter "C" Prompts are: (A) Starts with the Letter "C"; (B) "Colorful" (Tom's Choice); (C) A Favorite; (D) Reflections; and (E) A Lagniappe.
_ _ _ _

The Cat In The Window

[click on picture for full screen photo]
(from an earlier post, April 6, 2007 -
(A) Starts with the Letter "C":   Cat begins with the letter "C".  This is Amber, our cat sat kitty, we sat with Amber while she and family were in London five years with her work.

.

(B) "Colorful" (Tom's Choice):   This is our Colorfully decorated golf cart for a 4th of July parade with Mrs. Jim, Adi, and our new college graduate.  She received her Bachelor and Master degrees in Math, and SHE HAS A JOB, using her specialty,  "Statistics".   She taught college Statistics as a professors assistant her junior and senior years and then also as a graduate student teacher.  (Parades)

(C) A Favorite:  As soon as our Boarded Cat came, she decided that our Beagle Dog had a much nicer bed than she.  Adi wouldn't give in to her though, so Adi and Amber shared Adi's bed for her stay's duration (4 1/2 years until she died of old age, 18 years).
(For more Amber blog appearances on my blog, please click here.)

(D) Reflections:  Now this sister Alley Cat decided to sit out the rain from her perch here, looking down a side street from her dry archway.  She wasn't wild at all as the Alley Cat looked in my top picture.

Instead she is a friendly cat who makes her fur shiny and her stomach round by begging food off the street and from the people eating at the outside cafes down the street from our hotel in Dubrovnik, Croatia (picture 1) (picture2). (original post with sister's cat).

(E) A Lagniappe:  Above, a part of our pretty downtown scene and today's forecast courtesy of Houston NBC Channel 2.
On the right this morning's view from our bedroom windows. (Note, window needs a cleaning.)

Bonus Questions:

(1)   Tell a bit about your experience or feelings about parades?   When our grandkids were still kids they loved to go with us to a parade.  Sometimes we were in the parade, several times as adults, once driving the Mustang top down to carry a retired marine.  Also unusual I took the younger grandson to an Art Car Parade back when the Art Car Parade had just coming into existence.  Most times it was the Houston Thanksgiving parade or the local 4th of July parade.

(2) What is your favorite Word starting with  "C"?   Mine today will be "Car" , I have had many in my life, list here to click.  I also have about 40 toy cars, most scale model cast iron cars.

(3) Anything else you were reminded of here that you  would like to tell about?

The Letter "R" -- Weekend Roundup and Reflections

The forty-fourth issue of Weekend Roundup for this year, 2020...

(THE EIGHTEENTH  LETTER FOR THIS SERIES) - the Letter "R" Prompts are: (A) Starts with the Letter "R";  (B) "Red" (Tom's Choice); (C) A Favorite; and (D) Reflections. (E)  A Lagniappe.

(Z) had to be A - Z , TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY  !!!! :)

 _ _ _ _

(A) Starts with the Letter "R":  "Rainbow" starts with the letter "R".  Don't you just love the Mama pushing her Baby in the Perambulator!!

"Remember" also starts with "R". Please Remember what all you learned this year from our "National Breast Cancer Month" doings.

Mrs. Jim had a doctor vistit yesterday, at the Houston Methodist Memorial Hospital they were finishing with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month things, they had a beautiful craftwork display in the entry to the Hospital.

I am showing the pictures that I took when we left.

(B) "Red" (Tom's Choice):  See the Red Pretties"Taco Bout a Mamno."

(C) A Favorite:  This was Mrs. Jim's Favorite, the Witches.

They looked Real to us.

(D) ReflectionsI Rate this men's public rest room at the Houston Memorial Hospital West a FIVE, the highest on my scale.  It is an all automatic, touch-nothing, facility.  The faucets, the soap dispensers, the towels,  and even flushing, are auto.

And everything was super clean.  Only the diaper changing station, beside me in the photo, is manual.

I did not take this picture to be a Selfie, I just couldn't find a place to hide.

(E)  A Lagniappe:  Here are the few other pictures I took at the hospital entry:

 _ _ _ _

Bonus Questions:

(1)  What if anything is your surrounding doing for "Breast Cancer Aware Month?  There are various activities and fund raisers around.  We did not participate, we've had a wedding at the beginning of the month and then spent two weeks in Baton Rouge with our elderly, age 100, cousin.

(2) What is your favorite "R" Word?  Mine today will be Radio.  I have an Amateur Radio Operator  license but have not been active for quite some time.  I enjoy finding and listening tp Short Wave radio stations.

I also like working two-way with Morse Code and then with the Two Meter Repeater activities.  I have been a Ham Radio Operator since 1960 and have several radios, all of an older generation.

The Letter "O" -- Weekend Roundup and Reflections

The forty-first issue of Weekend Roundup for this year, 2020... (THE FIFTEENTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES) - the Letter "O" Prompts are:

(A) Starts with the Letter "O";

(B) "Orange" (Tom's Choice);

(C) A Favorite; and
(D) Reflections.
  _ _ _ _

(A) Starts with the Letter "O":  "Old" starts with the letter "O".  I am Old but this Model A Ford pickup is older

This is a 1928, 29, 30, or 31 Model A Ford Pickup.  I don't know who owns it but it was parked in the parking lot of First Baptist Church, Conroe, Texas.  It looks almost all original.  I have never owned a Model A and haven't driven one.  My parents had a 1929 Coupe when I was born.  I would like to have a Model A Ford Pickup but that isn't practical for us anymore.

(B) "Orange" (Tom's Choice):  This picture according to Oceania Cruises is supposed to be of Paris, France,  but I can't place where.  Here though,  my main concern is the Orange Citroen car.  Mrs. Jim would love to have a nice clean restored model like this.  I have a 1:18 scale model blue toy car, that is enough for me (link).

(C) A Favorite:  Our great niece and her new husband posing with their parents, her dad is our nephew.  Their wedding was last Saturday.

(D) Reflections:  A TV capture from our Houston Channel 11 at the beginning of the weather report.
  _ _ _ _

Bonus Questions:

(1)  Have you ever had or driven an old car or driven one?   A Ford product if you have a choice.  Tell us  little about your experience.  For a few weeks my dad bought me for my junior year school car a pristine 1937 Ford Tudor owned by a LOL (Little Old Lady).  It reeked of her perfume but otherwise it was a really nice car.

But Dad traded it in for a new Ford F1 Pickup because he thought the mechanical brakes might not stop fast enough with a novice driver behind the wheel.  I had no say-so because it was titled in his name, 21 was the legal age to own property back in those days.  Besides I think he really wanted a pickup for the farm.

(2)  What is your favorite word beginning with the letter "O"?   Today I will choose the word "One" because it is a short word.  I like the song, "One is the Loneliest Number" and since starting tis blog post that song has been an ear worm for me.

[  "One is the Loneliest Number"  ]
