My Jars of Jam are lined up for a taste test.  I know the result before we start, do you?  Left to right, Walmart, Aldi, and La Madeleine.

(B) "Jewel" (Tom's Choice):   Do Quartz Watches have Jewels?  Dunno.  So I asked google.  Google said, "
Some quartz watches do have jewels in its movement to reduce friction. These watches are generally of a higher quality than watches without jewels and are designed to last longer which subsequently making it costing more money. The use of jewels in a quartz watch has its merits and advantages Jul 6, 2019"

(C) A Favorite:  My Favorite Jack-in-the-box restaurant.  This ] was our first breakfast after our marriage the day before, on February 1973.  We had honeymooned in San Antonio, Texas, and this Jack was across the street.  Note that there was no drive in service.  Our hotel was on the famed Riverwalk.  (Our honeymoon breakfast plus link) (San Antonio [Texas] Riverwalk link)

(D)
Street/Reflections:  Jiving along on two wheels on a street in India.

The Bride and Groom

She is my love, I carry her picture
For forty-eight years the Lord has been true

That day so long ago I made my vow
To have and to hold, to cherish and love

She was naïve, tender, and oh so sweet
She loved me too, she'd love, honor, obey

We've kept those vows--our love has grown still more
I'd do it again, I know she would too

Letter "I" -- -- Weekend Roundup and Street/Reflections

THE NINTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES - The Letter "I" Prompts are: (A) Starts with the Letter "I"; (B) "Insect" (Tom's Choice); (C) A Favorite; (D) Street/Reflections; and (E) A Lagniappe.

 - - - -

(A) Starts with the Letter "I":   Iris starts with "I".  The was our first blooming Iris last spring in our Iris bed.  The Iris blossoms don't last very long but they are pretty while they last.

(B) "Insect" (Tom's Choice):   More than several Insect Eaters.  How many Birds on the Wire here?

(C) A Favorite:  Taken from The Backwaters off the coast of Southeast India, near Co Chin.  There we had a houseboat for our group of ten for a morning cruise on the lakes.

(D) Street/Reflections:   Intense?

(E) A Lagniappe:   Here will be a copied Letter "I" post that I made showing places where we have been that start with the Letter "I"  Over all we have visited all 50 of the U.S.A. states and 74 to 78 countries in our world, that series I showed a few pictures from those places we were that started with the Letter "I".

Here goes: [from Wednesday, January 14, 2015, Link]

""I" is for some places, countries and cities starting with the letter "I" where I have traveled:

 - Countries: (I've been to between 74 and 78 countries)  (Here is a list of those 78 which participated in the 2020-21 Olympics in Japan this year, 2021. Link )

Iceland (not in the original version, since then we have visited)
Ireland
India  (not in the original version, since then we have visited)
Israel
Italy

 - States: (I've been to all 50)
Idaho
Illinois

 - U.S. Cities over 100,000 population where I've been:
Independence, Missouri
Irving, Texas

   - International Cities:
Innsbruck, Austria

Lets start with the countries.  I liked them all, not really a favorite.  So, Ireland gets the nod, we've been there a couple of times.  Both times we had a rental car (drive on the left side of the road).  It is a pretty country, not overpopulated, and they speak English.  Currency is the Euro which has a better U.S. exchange rate than the British Pound. A favorite thing to do is to visit the Blarney Castle outside of Kilarney.  And you will just have to kiss the Blarney Stone while you are there.

Mrs. Jim went up there also but she didn't want to kiss the stone. I've kissed it twice.  To read and see more please check the original 2007 post, found here.

The Isle of Man isn't a country so I can't put it on the list above.  It is a self-governing British 'Crown dependency,' not a country. (Wikipedia link)  It is located off the coast of Britain.  Though there is a ferry that goes there, we flew.  My grandfather's family came from the Isle of Man.  We visited it in 2007 (prior blog posts).

The main thing we did in  the Isle of Man was to go from Douglas, the capital city in the middle, where we stayed up to the north by train and then go to the south end via bus.  Lots of site seeing.  We did see evidence of the Corkhill family having been there.  One lady at the information center (above, right) informed us that her maiden name was Corkhill.

For Italy we took a Grand Circle (travel company) tour of the island of Sicily for two weeks (link).  Since it was by bus, we could explore each part for about a week.

First we stayed at Palermo for a week, then Argrigento (Greek ruins there) one night, and six more nights at Taormina, a small (population 11,000) hillside town on the east coast of Sicily with a nice view of Mt. Etna. We did go onto the slopes of Mt. Etna.

Then we took a Grand Circle excursion on the Amalfi Coast for another week.

After that we flew from Naples over to Milan where we rented a car and toured Provence (France) and Tuscany a week each to finish our five week vacation.

Above, to the left is looking out our  hotel window to the north to the sea.  Next, Mrs. Jim and I took a walk up our hill in Sorento (Amalfi coast) and could look over to the Isle of Capri.
I took a lot of motor scooter pictures when I could.  A lot of women ride them in Italy.   To the right we see Mrs. Jim sampling the goodies at the Market in Palermo, Sicily.

Iceland was a part of a New York City to Dover, England cruise aboard the Pacific Princess ship in 2016.  You can search my blog for Iceland, this post has our itinerary (link) and another in the Labels at the bottom of the post.

India was a fun trip too.  This one was aboard the Oceania Nautica ship in 2019-2020 with several posts using this link,  .   At the end we stayed in Cape Town, South Africa to spend a few days.  The highlight there was a safari.

Independence, Missouri, is the home of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum (link).  It is a wonderful presidential library.  I have visited slightly more than half of them, seven (7) of the thirteen (13).

The libraries make a nice goal for seeing places in the U.S as surely if you go by car you will not only explore the state of the library you pick, but also the states along the way (List of all 13 links on left sidebar).  We love to make a sweeping tour and try to not come back the same way we went.  We have been to ALL 50 of the states.

 - Jenny is starting in now on her tenth series of Alphabe Thursday.  With 52 weeks in a year and 26 letters in the alphabet she is now in her fifth year.  I am linked to her blog, GO HERE for more participants and their offerings.

The Letter "N" -- Weekend Roundup and Reflections

The fortieth issue of Weekend Roundup for this year, 2020... (THE FOURTEENTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES) - the Letter "N" Prompts are:
(A) Starts with the Letter "N";
(B) "Number" (Tom's Choice);
(C) A Favorite; and
(D) Reflections.
  _ _ _ _

[click on picture a couple of times for larger]

(A) Starts with the Letter "N":  National starts with the letter "N".  I always think of our National Anthem, the Star Spangled Banner when I think of that word.

I also think of National Days.  October 30th is National Candy Corn Day, it comes one day before Halloween.  So does my Birthday.    I always buy a bag of Candy Corn, again this year I already have it.  October 30th is also my birthday, it started as a joking sentence, that for my Birthday I would run away.  Most times if I do, all times so far, Mrs. Jim and perhaps other relatives run with me.

Some I have blogged about, I remember best the year I ran to New York City when our younger daughter ran the New York City Marathon.  Mrs. Jim and I followed her to six locations on that run using the city subways.

A toy 1934 Ford Coupe

(B) "Number" (Tom's Choice):  Number 88 is my favorite Number, it is the Number we used for our race car, a "modified stock"** 1934  Coupe painted baby blue.   Read more about the pictured toy car and of our race car here, http://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/2020/05/the-letter-s-weekend-roundup-and.html .

[Photo is a screen shot of our Channel 13 from Houston, Texas]

(C) A Favorite:   I like watching Car chases on TV when nobody gets hurt and the crook is caught and cuffed.  I didn't see the end of this one as our Houston Astro baseball came on (they won the game and the wild place in our division.)

In the picture the white car on the left is being pursued by Houston police cars.  Those have white doors.  The are followed by or Texas state Patrol in the SUV's with the white hoods..  It was surmised that a woman was driving as she wasn't speeding and signaled all her lane changes.

(D) Reflections:  Backwater cruising during our January 16 stop at Cochin, India.  We spent the morning on a houseboat larger than this one, it had an upstairs outside deck, then disembarked after lunch.
  _ _ _ _

Bonus Questions:

1.  What kind of action do you prefer on TV?  In addition to the chase scenes I like "Dancing with the Stars" shown on Monday nights.

2.  What is your favorite "N" word?   I like "No" because I don't have much Negative in my life.  Saying it adds some excitement going against the grain.

The Letter "Z" -- Weekend Roundup and Reflections

The Letter "Z" -- Weekend Roundup and Reflections
The twenty-sixth issue of Weekend Roundup for this year, 2020...
(THE TWENT-SIXTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES)
- the Letter "Z" Prompts are:
(A) Contains the Letter "Z";
(B) "Our Choice";
(C) A Favorite; and
(D) Reflections.

THIS COMPLETES OUR ALPHABET ON MID 2020
WE WILL START OVER NEXT WEEK, PLEASE JOIN US
_ _ _ _

(A) Contains the Letter "Z":  Zebra has the letter "Z" as the first letter.  We saw these in South Africa at a game preserve southeast of Cape Town.

(B) "My Choice":  My youngest great-granddaughter and me on Father's Day 2020.

One daughter and two sons, a daughter-in-law, two granddaughters and hubbies, three greatgrandchildren, and two great-greatgrandchildren were there.  Plus Mrs. Jim and other friends.  I believe that count is correct.

(C) A Favorite:  Bees go BUZZZZ.  On Father's Day afternoon   my youngest Granddaughter and the younger Daughter, dropped in with a present for me.

The Two cards and Five cans of Wasp Spray.  The spray was an inside joke of which I had forgotten the set up

A couple of weeks ago we were sitting around the poolside (pictured last week) table when our granddaughter noticed a wasp flying around and attempting to get inside the back wall of our house.  Mrs. Jim went quickly inside and came running out with my precious flying insect spray can.  She did not kill the wasp but rather sprayed the wall crack and surrounding wall and a broken piece of furniture.

I would have used a can of regular insect spray as the flying insect spray can had only about a third left.

(D) Reflections:  Taken from The Backwaters off the coast of Southeast India, near Co Chin.
_ _ _ _

My Two Questions (you can answer just one if you wish):

(1)  If you are a parent or grandparent how were you recognized for Mother's Day or Father's Day this year? My post with JE photo here pretty well explains mine for this year.  Not all the kids and grandkids could come to this celebration, our younger daughter and youngest granddaughter brought my bug spray present the day before.  They spent Father's Day with their other grandfather in East Texas this year.  All five of the kids got in touch by phone also.
  (2) Where and when was your last boat ride?  We were on a cruise from Dubai to Cape Town, South Africa, visiting India and several islands in the Indian Ocean along he way, as well as other various countries.  We left Dubai on December 5, 2019 and arrived in Cape Town on January 4, 2020.

Bonus Questions:

(1) What is your favorite "Z" Word? That would be Zip, like "Zip it Up" and there is now reason for that liking.

(2) What if any sort of silly present did you give some one, perhaps a 'gag gift'?   I am sure it was a White Elephant gift where I regift presents that I cannot use.  I justr don't have one in mind for here.
