Starts with "W": Wagons, from horse and human drawn to station wagon automobiles have been a part of humans' culture and convenience. Did you ever wonder about the now forgotten inventor of the wheel?
A Favorite: This year's NYC annual Rockefeller Plaza Christmas Tree is a favorite mine and many others. An average of 800 thousand persons will be viewing it each day until after Christmas. You've just now virtually joined the crowd.
Tom's suggestion, "White": Pure Snow is White. It lays on the ground and other flat surfaces. Humans and animal are the worst offenders to change its pearly color, generally to shares of yellow and gray.
The white in this crafted ice skating rink mostly comes from a well bleached bed sheet. It is a part of one of the two toy train scenes crafted, assembled, and now being displayed in the foyer of our church. Both children and adults stop for their imaginations' workouts.

Starts with "A": Automobile, now also called Car or Auto, starts with "A". This would be a typical Auto back in 1908, 114 years ago.

A Favorite: Amber was the Family Favorite until she died and Dutch (featured on last week's blog) came. Amber stayed with us when Karen assignment turned her to London. Karen stayed five years but Amber died before the five-year assignment was finished. [Click here to visit other Amber postings on this blog]

Reflections and/or Street Photos: Did you watch the British "Royal Ascott" horse racing this June 18th?
I have a Reflection of the TV interview showing on the Coffee Tabletop and unintended, my foot selfie was in the picture. This is my pretty one, the other has as crooked and webbed toes. The two Hamer Toes are from having a car running over them, and then stopped for a bit while I was screaming at the driver to pull up.
A Lagniappe: We had Apple Pie for 4th of July lunch. It was home baked by Mrs. Jim; it was a Marie Callender's "Ready to Bake" latticed apple pie entry we had found on sale at Kroger's.
A story. We were on the way home from Oregon back to Nebraska. We stopped at Presho, S.D, the town where Mom was born. I mentioned to my parents that I had seen as sign in the window of a small cafe saying, "Home Baked Pie". We all laugh, an inside joke, when "home baked pie" comes to someone's thinking.
So: We stopped and had pie (I had Apple, what else?) and coffee; the pie was very good. I mentioned to the waitress that with so many pies they all must make them at home before they come to work. She said, yes, we do bake them, they are Mrs. Smith's. Yes, we agree, Mrs. Smith does make very tasty pies. _ _ _ _

Letter "V" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 08 / Reflections and-or Street Captures

Starts with "V": Varmints starts with a "V". This creature in the middle of the road is one of those. Alligators in the middle of the road are quite frequently encountered here in the Southeast part of Texas.
Mike, the best man at our wedding, had this Varmint posted on his Facebook. Mike lives almost on the border of Louisiana now, north a bit from here.
A Favorite: These two are part of as threesome, Mrs. Jim, our Daughter, and KP, our youngest Granddaughter are visiting New York City this week.
Wednesday Mrs. Jim and the Granddaughter went to the NBC Rockerfeller Plaza to watch the outside portion of the Today Show. They got there early and had chosen a good spot for televising.

Tom's choice, "Verdant": Will be the Green in this lovely Aukland, N.Z, beach, including the grass, the trees, and the Verdant little mountain in the background.
Mrs. Jim and I helped to get us away from our port for a cruise, a 14-day Princess Cruise of New Zealand and Australia. We would sail down the east coast of New Zealand from Auckland, stopping almost every day to explore and do our sailing at night. See more from Princess Cruises (click here). Our cruise is not available right now, we also visited Tasmania and Melbourne on our way to ending at Sydney (area map).
Reflections and/or Street Captures: Wednesday I was going to take a picture of our neighbor's fairly new boat. I was hoping the camera would count down so that he would be behind the truck. But he didn't quite make it. His dog did though.

Letter "O" -- Weekend Roundup and Street/Reflections
I fell last Friday and broke, of all body parts, my right foot big toe. Foot doctor says to wear it for eight weeks and hope the break will grow back together.

(A) Starts with the Letter "O": Orange Tree starts with "O". It's time for an update. My much posted Orange Tree froze in our unusual February winter storm and a Blanket Over it wasn't enough help.
I am thinking of a pretty blooming cherry tree to replace it but Mrs. Jim thinks that maybe our winters aren't long enough and cold enough for cherries. It will be replaced with a small tree again.

(B) "Over" (Tom's Choice): Penguins all Over. I used this picture in my Day 8 NaPoWriMo "poem", at NaPoWriMo 2021.
(C) A Favorite: Left Over Mac 'n Cheese. This day I was almost Out of Luck, Only Five Pieces of macaroni were left for me.
Like many Other Grandparents we keep a supply of Mac 'n Cheese for our youngest 1granddaughter who lives within walking distance from us. Right now I have a small bowl of Left Over Mac in our refrigerator.
(D) Street/Reflections: "Family Feud" score board, Reflected on the coffee table. To win $2000 today's contestant winning team needed at least 200 points, they ended up with only 153.

(E) A Lagniappe: A nice Tea for Old Folk had these goodies for eating along with our tea. We were just about to sample the chocolate puff cookies when we had to leave for a tour of the place.

(1) Tell about any dealings you have had with an Afternoon
Tea. When we are on a cruise, most cruise ships have Afternoon Tea at about 3:00PM for an hour, either in a dining room or large lounge. I like the lounge high looking out over the bow or the aft on showing contrails of water being kicked up by the propellers.
Also, our younger daughter, KP likes Hotel Afternoon Tea, especially the hotels in London.
(2) What is your favorite Word starting with "O"? Mine today will be "Often", because unlike many other words, it only has one definition. And also because it means things are happening.
(3) Anything else you were reminded of here that you would like to tell about?

Letter "C" -- Weekend Roundup and Reflections

The Cat In The Window

(A) Starts with the Letter "C": Cat begins with the letter "C". This is Amber, our cat sat kitty, we sat with Amber while she and family were in London five years with her work.

(B) "Colorful" (Tom's Choice): This is our Colorfully decorated golf cart for a 4th of July parade with Mrs. Jim, Adi, and our new college graduate. She received her Bachelor and Master degrees in Math, and SHE HAS A JOB, using her specialty, "Statistics". She taught college Statistics as a professors assistant her junior and senior years and then also as a graduate student teacher. (Parades)
(C) A Favorite: As soon as our Boarded Cat came, she decided that our Beagle Dog had a much nicer bed than she. Adi wouldn't give in to her though, so Adi and Amber shared Adi's bed for her stay's duration (4 1/2 years until she died of old age, 18 years).
(D) Reflections: Now this sister Alley Cat decided to sit out the rain from her perch here, looking down a side street from her dry archway. She wasn't wild at all as the Alley Cat looked in my top picture.
Instead she is a friendly cat who makes her fur shiny and her stomach round by begging food off the street and from the people eating at the outside cafes down the street from our hotel in Dubrovnik, Croatia (picture 1) (picture2). (original post with sister's cat).

(1) Tell a bit about your experience or feelings about parades? When our grandkids were still kids they loved to go with us to a parade. Sometimes we were in the parade, several times as adults, once driving the Mustang top down to carry a retired marine. Also unusual I took the younger grandson to an Art Car Parade back when the Art Car Parade had just coming into existence. Most times it was the Houston Thanksgiving parade or the local 4th of July parade.
(2) What is your favorite Word starting with "C"? Mine today will be "Car" , I have had many in my life, list here to click. I also have about 40 toy cars, most scale model cast iron cars.
(3) Anything else you were reminded of here that you would like to tell about?
