Active duty is over -- Ruby (Red) Tuesday -- Food plan still going

Yes, I am still on my food plan where the major item is to eat breakfast. I never did eat more than a half granola bar.This was my Saturday breakfast, the same for Monday except I deferred the apples for a 12:00 noon snack and had a slice of cinnamon toast with my coffee. You see a nice egg soft taco. Each has one half microwaved beaten egg, a little ham, some onions, tomatoes, and salsa. Monday's also has lettuce. Mrs Jim likes my cooking, one plate is for her.
I weigh every day and so far haven't gained any weight. My Christmas and Sunday with Mrs. Jim's Sunday school lunch eating is gone too. But there are other pounds. Dr. Oz helped me with that today on his afternoon TV program.
Sunday morning was not working properly but one the way home from church I picked up some Lean Cuisine breakfast pockets. Those are fast and don't have too many calories.
The troops are coming home!
Good news, I do hope all the active duty U.S. troops soon will follow.
These guys are some of those who had nutcracker duty at our house.
They are lined up awaiting transportation to their homes and loved ones.
Waiting here (left) are some of those home folks.
And there is a nice bunk bed awaiting all those who served. They think it is a grand place to hunker down. We do too, it is a little closet under the stairway landing reserved just for Christmas duty characters.
Next I will show the fellows and ladies at their duty stations. You can decide what their job titles might be.

Ruby (Red) Tuesday -- What makes you happy?
[large picture] [super sized]My happiness. It isn't the cup of coffee, it is the free coffee for seniors at the grocery store. That makes me very happy. Generally on the way to fruit, through the bakery good, I find a couple of piece of pastry sample to nibble on with my coffee.
Another nice thing I can do is head on over for a refill when I am in the mood for a second cup. They don't care at the store, they are glad I am here and not down the street.
Don't you worry that the cup isn't full either. It is self service, I like my coffee hot so most times I have this much two or three times, drinking it before it gets very much cooled down. And I might have another pastry sample.
[large picture] [super sized] Young people generally are happy with toys. A pretty room with floor space to play helps a lot.
I didn't count the animals and dolls, I have bought a couple, Mrs. Jim has purchased her share as well. I don't know where they all come from, do you?
Thinking it over, I believe they come from shopping trips either close at the mall or far away on vacation or at a discovered gift shop, you name them, there are places to buy your kids toy animals.

This old desk was the first antique we acquired after we were married, 37 years ago. We debated about the $15 price tag and finally decided it would be worth it.
The desk no longer had its original finish but had been painted this red. It was a little brighter back then but it dulled considerably since the flood of 1979. It was completely submerged with about three feet of water, as were three cars and a motorcycle and most of our other worldly goods.
For a while it held flowering potted plants on our patio. That was really nice for it, I'm sure it felt it had a new life.
For a while we sat things on it but now due to space limitations it sits under this other older table. We do have two other student desks with original finish, carvings, etc. One is in good shape, the other needs some glue here and there.
I suppose it will sit for a few more years, then hit the trash. That is usually what happens to old things, sooner or later.
Of course, since we have an open back porch on our retirement home it could hold a plant back there again. It hasn't for nine years, will things change?

January 31, 2008 -- I'll have to change out my calendar!

I had gotten to like January, this nice calendar helped.
My first, I only had two in my whole life, new car was a 1956 Ford Sunliner like this. Where this one is red, mine was a pale green. It was the first '56 Ford Sunliner in Lincoln, Nebraska, and I just had to have it.
Then I had to sell it when I got drafted into the Army. My car payments were higher than my total Army pay!
I was too cheap to spend $500 more for a ThunderBird. Now, though, really nice Sunliners like this one are worth $10 or $20 thousand more than a '56 T-bird.
Here is a nicer view of my favorite car. I cut off the calendar part and trimmed the work shelf out so you could see it better.

Our local NAPA dealer stocks these calendars every year. I have every year except the first and on into the late 1990s. Then I quit getting them for a little while.
Oh well, February 2 is Groundhog Day. That will make next month a little exciting.

OFF TO JAIL AGAIN -- PUMKINS GALORE

A pumkin patch for you

These are cow pumpkins. More jack-o-lanterns are made with cow pumpkins and are fed to cows. Cow pumpkins don't make very tasty pies either.
Pie pumpkins look like this. They are smaller and more tender so they make delicious pies and other desserts.
Pumpkin pie is my favorite vegetable!
Did you ever see a white pumpkin? Or eat one? I don't think they are good to eat.

Our Kroger store had this nice display for pumpkins and gourds.
Kroger also had a lot items for the trick-or-treaters.
Lest you think I'm partial to Kroger, here is what I found at WalMart. They are into the Halloween game too.

June Bug . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Yes, It's June Bug (2007)

.We caught him! This is the mean little leprechaun who pushed me down the stairs while we were visiting in Ireland.
I ended up falling down a few very hard stairs. The fall knocked a finger out of joint and broke my right kneecap. I'm still recovering.
Read about that nasty incident (click here) on my May 26, 2007, blog.
The little June Bug leprechaun was found hiding out in a gift shop in Killarney.
We knew right away we could capture this little guy, kidnap him back to the states, and give him to our youngest granddaughter (GC#4 link). Then she would keep him locked forever with her collection.

.She looks pleased, doesn't she? When her relatives travel, her first request for souvenirs is to bring her back snow globes from where we visited. We brought her six this time, five were from some of the states we had visited going and coming, then of course the captured leprechaun.
