Six Word Saturday — Contest Winner — Ice and Snow

.
My happy (not) cold weather friends
[my six words for SixWord Saturday]

[click again for larger still]
You might think these guys look happy. Well they are not happy. They just love the nippy outside weather but hate to wear hats to protect their heads.
Our dogs have seen snow before but at their ages they don't like to walk in it. Adi used to love to play in the snow.

We didn't have Katrin the last time it snowed but as you see here she would just as soon not walk in it. Not even the small amount of snow we had.

It seems like we have had half a dozen of these Canadian cold waves come through this winter. I blame it all on global warming. Consequently I foresee an even hotter summer than what we had last year.

Now to the "Count the Dog Biscuits in the Jar Contest" (link)

Congratulations to Lisa Ricard Claro (
link) who is our winner with a guess of 200.
She was only off by 16; I put 216 dog biscuits in the jar. I had dumped in the whole box (you've got to remember, they were puppy biscuits).

Happy Golfing Buddy — MidWeek Blues — Contest Winners

.
Meet Jim R. Congratulations, Jim!

Jim made a hole-in-one yesterday while we were playing at Raven Nest. This is a college golf course at Huntsville, Texas, belonging to Sam Houston State University.

It was a par three hole and Jim put the ball into the hole with his seven iron hitting it 137 yards from the tee box.

College golf courses are nice and handy for the students (and faculty). San Jacinto College where I taught has a nice nine-hole course. I would play there several times a week after work. We had no facility for riding carts so most everyone pulled a little two-wheel cart that held the bag. Some carried their bags on their backs.

Jim and Don A. rode together. Some golfers are superstitious although neither Jim nor Don are. Nevertheless they hope to continue riding together as Don also had a hole-in-one a few weeks ago while they were cart mates.

I might add that this golfing group consists of a bunch of fellows from Mrs. Jim's Sunday school class of which I am an associate member.

Generally there are about twelve of us playing. This Tuesday we had only seven as the weather was pretty tough. The temperature was 33°F when we started at nine in the morning. And the cool wind was blowing all day between 15 and 25 MPH. (In the summer the grass is green but now it is brown.)

A blue day — MidWeek Blues — Ford Model A Pickup

.
This light blue Ford Model A Pickup was parked in the Handicap Parking section of our church parking lot during church services. I'd love to have one like this. My guess on the year is 1929 or 1930.
I pushed the blue color but everything you see blue is really blue though some is not as blue as you are seeing.

It's a blue day today. It rained all day yesterday and last night so there won't be any golf today. Bad wintry days can be the bane of a pleasant retirement.

Speaking of guesses, I regret to say my contest isn't coming along very well. I need to publicize it better.

Here is the deal:

.

How Many Dog Biscuits Are in My Jar?
(winner and correct answer here soon—I will contact the winners)

That sounds easy. Just guess how many dog biscuits are in my jar.

They're sold in boxes like this. The jar is an antique (almost) from the 1950's.

Although these biscuits are sold for puppies I give them to my adult dogs, Adi (beagle) and Katrin (toy poodle).

I don't give them a whole biscuit at a time so these thin ones break easier.

Okay, now, give it a try. Leave your guess in with your comment. Your last entry is the one that counts.

Oh yes, you can click on the picture to make it bigger. Easier to count? I didn't say that.

Adi said: "We need titles here" -- Sunday night / Monday morning -- Adi can play in the grass

We will run a little contest here. Here are the simple rules:

1. Give each picture a title.

2. Vote for your favorite pose and tell why. (Adi didn't suggest doing this, I did.)

3. After about a week or so I will 'close the contest' and either name the winners or get a vote going.

4. There won't be any tangible prizes.

I am working on my fourth anniversary post for Tuesday. If anyone has any suggestions, please don't be bashful.
