Letter "F" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 11 and Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures

Starts with "F": Ford starts with "F", this is the last Ford that I have bought. I still have it, a 1998 Ford Mustang GT Convertible. It was my retirement present to myself, in 2001. Also it has reached 25 years of age this year so in Texas it is now classified as a Classic.

Newest Cat in the Family: Dutch is the newest feline in the neighborhood, adopted as a rescue, by our older daughter. He knows his owner is headed out for a work assignment and is hoping she will not notice him here, hoping to catch a ride and go with his owner.
Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures: Three guys in a boat out in the Florida Everglades. Fishing? Alligator hunting?
A Lagniappe: Finish is a good "F" word. Mrs. Jim Finished her physical therapy sessions, now she'll add to these on strengthening her back.

Starts with "F": Ford starts with "F", this is the last Ford that I have bought. I still have it, a 1998 Ford Mustang GT Convertible. It was my retirement present to myself, in 2001. Also it has reached 25 years of age this year so in Texas it is now classified as a Classic.
I have owned 15 Ford branded cars plus my 1950 Mercury, which was a Ford product. Here is a list of the cars which I have owned, click here to read of the 35 cars that I have owned (a 1940 Chevy Tudor is missing--it had been wrecked, I paid $50 for it and was in the process of fixing it back up when I got drafted. I gave it to my landlord's son to finish the job.)
I worked for Ford Aerospace in New Hampshire and at NASA Houston for 19 years (first three in the Elgin Watch Factory, five in the U.S. Army) before I quit and switched careers to something less stressful--teaching at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas.

Newest Cat in the Family: Dutch is the newest feline in the neighborhood, adopted as a rescue, by our older daughter. He knows his owner is headed out for a work assignment and is hoping she will not notice him here, hoping to catch a ride and go with his owner. Below is the second feral feline post, the first was on here or another blog, I couldn't find her when I looked.
Tom's choice, "Fresh": Fresh bananas are nice on cereal. These are not fresh, the skins are not yellow but rather a very dark brown. And inside the fruit is off color and mushy. When my wife and I were married I was almost horrified at first when she would have cereal for supper. But she has won me over there, I like it for a light and healthy supper meal. In the picture there are two other cereals, raisin bran and granola which are covered by what you see.

Letter "G" -- Weekend Roundup and Street/Reflections

(A) Starts with the Letter "G": Good. This is the "ALL THINGS GOOD"** Store in Stellenbosch, South Africa https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stellenbosch. We did not stop there but we can imagine what they sold there.**
(B) "Great" (Tom's Choice): Our U.S.A. Olympic Team was GREAT at the 2020-22 Japan Olympics this year.
(C) A Favorite: Giraffe also starts with "G". Today I'm posting again some pictures taken when we took our youngest granddaughter, KP, to the Houston (Texas) Zoo. We had purchased some giraffe food but she was not yet two at that time and didn't want to be in the giraffe's nose.

(D) Street/Reflections: Our backyard neighbors had a birthday party going last weekend.
The balloons are behind the overgrown bush and we get a better view from the Reflection in their back Texas picture window.

(B) "Under" (Tom's choice): Under the Bridge in Sydney, Australia on our Ferry Ride. For most of my posts about Sydney and our January 2014 visit, click here.
We had a pleasant ferry ride (Sidney Ferries) around the Harbor on the Inner Harbour Ferry. It left the Circular Quay and sailed over to the Australian National Maritime Museum. I liked going under the Harbour Bridge. You can see the Sydney Opera House in the background.
We rode the train over and back across that bridge, we took the ferry to Manly Beach for a morning, we rode the tram to the Harbor Fish Market, and took the bus to Bondi Beach for our major rides. There were many more as Sydney has a wonderful public transportation system. Since Mrs. Jim and I were seniors our all day tickets to all modes, even the ferry and the train, were $2.50 AUS each day.
(A) Starts with the Letter "U": Unknown starts with "U". This soup was good, great, as it is homemade by Mrs. Jim. but I don't know what kind it was. Nor do I know the fried stuff on the left.
I will let you guess what kind of goodies we ate?

(C) A Favorite: Again we will let the age of the fellow on the left, me, be Unknown. The cake is chocolate, my favorite kind. We were celebrating at an Unknown restaurant.

(D) Reflections: Uphill pitch. The green on this hole was very steep and the ball didn't want to stay high. Site was the Wedgewood Public Golf Course, Conroe, Texas, now closed. Conroe is just north of Houston, where the little hills start. This was my Favorite public course to play._ _ _ _
My Two Questions (you can answer just one if you wish):
(1) What comes to mind when you think of "Under"? I think of my dictionary that I hardly use anymore. It is an "Under the Bridge with Dick and Harry", 1970's edition.
(2) When was the last Birthday that you celebrated? Our oldest great granddaughter was due to have us a new Baby Girl Great Greatgranddaughter last week. That happened just during the night now. 6.8 pound BABY GIRL.
Bonus Questions:
(1) What is your favorite "U" word? This time it will be Undecided. That is my official political viewpoint for poles but I'd rather call it Independent. I keep my blogs free of political talk, this is the closest I've come in the 15 years I've blogged. If there is a political comment I quickly remove it and slap the wrist of whoever left it.)
(2) When did you last play a sport? I have not played Golf for about seven years. My artificial knee joint gave me fits after playing and lasted a day and a half after. But I may learn to play "Old Men Golf" this year. Walking is my only sport at the moment.

~~ Friday’s Hunt v.3.11 -- "K" is for ...
Friday's Hunt for the week of March 17: Starts with K; Week’s Favorite; and Drink
(1) Starts with "K": I've been hurting here. So when we went to the "World Market" store here I took a few pictures with items for sale that began with "K" words. I quite after these:
"K" is for Kipper Fillets, i.e. Herring Fillets. $3.99 seemed a little high for this can so for sure I would only take home the picture.
When I was growing up (on
Dad's farm) my father would buy fish by mail order from up North some place, perhaps Wisconsin or Michigan.
He would order some herring and also cod. Add a few gallons of oysters. It came in frozen, packed in dry ice. Eating seafood was a a relief from the fried chicken, roast pork, ham, and chops. Once in a while he would kill steer to eat, not often.
The other non-farm-raised food we had quite a lot of was processed meat like bologna and hot dogs. We were rationed hot dogs, only two. So I split mine into fours and had eight hot dog sandwiches.
My second "K" find was over on the wine shelves, there I found some "Klicker Brick (vineyards of California)" Zinfandel wine. It was on sale but I wouldn't have any idea if it were a bargain.
We don't buy much wine, and Mrs. Jim buys it when we do. I have been tempted to call her a frustrated Sommelier who has missed her calling. Our University of Houston does offer a Sommelier course and since we live in Texas tuition would be free for us, Senior citizens.
Next "K", I have no idea what this is but the label said "Korean Food". I suppose if one were Korean he or she should be able to read the label. We had a Korean lady friend up at Montgomery who could read Korean.
She could read most oriental language publications because they mostly use the same characters. Of course that didn't say she knew the meaning of what she was reading except for the common oriental language words.
She was an artist so for us she also rescued a painting for us after it had fallen off it's wall onto the tile floor. While she was doing that she also painted in some places that the assembly line artists had missed or botched.
Lastly, our code word so that we could pay our Sunday after church food bill with the Carrabba App was "KCKWGP". Neither of us had the app so I paid using the conventional method. If you have one you could 'pay ahead' for me.
The food was good, each of us took home half our entry for a leftover meal. We divided that in half for lunch and supper.
For lunch we finished off my spaghetti and shrimp and scallops. I put in another five shrimp before heating so we would have enough. The original had six scallops and six shrimp. I ate the shrimp with the plan to add more at home.
Then Monday night we had Mrs. Jim's pork and broccoli. It was also very good and nice and tender.
Oh yes, my salad was a Caesar Salad with Balsamic Vinegar/Oil dressing with anchovies (chopped in the small dish). I don't eat the Caesar dressing as it contains raw eggs. This one did, I always ask. Generally I then have Oil and Vinegar but that was not an option here. You have to ask for the anchovies but since they are traditional with the Caesar Salad generally they will add with no extra charge.
(2) Week’s Favorite: Winter-Spring Soccer is in full swing here for the Kids. KP's team won, two to naught for their first game. Last fall they lost it, six to zero. Here are a few pictures. She plays Left Defender and is wearing a bluish purple head band. [Click on a picture that you'd like to see bigger.]
(3) Drink:
Diet Coke;
my favorite soft drink
Old Mother Hubbard went to her cupboard
To get the family a Diet Coke
But the ice box was empty for tonight
No way there'll be a Diet Coke for us

Watching our College Football teams playing on TV makes my heart warm
Warmer still when our team wins.
Watching our family college teams playing football games is my favorite TV activity. Both my and Mrs. Jim's teams earned bowl games this year. Although LSU will be playing at Houston, we are undecided as to whether or not we will attend in person. ESPN TV will do a good job.

— My Alphabe-Thursday (2nd), the letter "P" / Thursday Two Questions —

What is my golf cart doing here?
."P" is for Player. In golf scrambles, I am a "D" Player because my golf handicap is a 33 per this month's Handicap Report.

"D" Player's are a valuable asset to their team in several ways:
1. The heavy hitters' balls go out of bounds often with their long hits. Mine is shorter and consequently, even not exactly straight ahead it doesn't go far enough in its errant way to get out of bounds.
2. I get two points added to almost every hole. That means a par or birdie (I get those occasionally) will be a minus two or three.
3. My putting and chipping on a normal day is better than my handicap shows. That means that I will have more of my putts and chips used for scoring than the other three.
4. When I have a bad shot I don't cry for very long. "D" Players are expected to have one or two bad shots on every hole.
5. I only have to play golf two times a week to keep a handicap of this magnitude.
6. When I reach age 104 I will be playing my age if I can keep this number (and live that long). Golfers like to be able to play their handicap. My friend, Everett W, who is over age 90, plays his handicap or better quite often.

My last post last week was about an "O" word, Oh!!! It referred to my exclamation when something went wrong. Last week that wrong was when I washed my camera in the washing machine. I am in the process of getting a new one from Amazon [dot] com. I'll let you know next week.

1. What sport do you participate in that judges your skill with a rating number or title?

Running with the wrong crowd — MidWeek Blues / "The Blob" — Thematic Photographic

These people were running the April 15, 2012, Paris, France, Marathon. Here we are at about the halfway point, around mile 15 of the 26 mile race. We waited here for our Karen to come by and for us to cheer her on.

This lady wearing the blue shirt is looking for a friendly face on the sidelines, I am sure. We can also be sure that she is more than just a little uncomfortable running with these 'orangey and black dressed people.'

This particular shot was an interesting one to take. I was driving down a back street in Milan, Tennessee when this large wet leaf blew onto my. Like a good Boy Scout, I was ready with my camer. I am always ready, it's either in my pocket, the door pocket in the car, or on a table within my reach.

But to me, it is more than a leaf. Like, do you ever look at clouds to find some for, recognizable as a familiar object or person? If this leaf turned out to be white, it might be "Casper, the Friendly Ghost." But since it's dark, sinister, and eerie, I call it "The Blob." I didn't see the movie, I'm not an expert on blobs, you might think differently.
