Letter "F" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 11 and Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures

Starts with "F": Ford starts with "F", this is the last Ford that I have bought. I still have it, a 1998 Ford Mustang GT Convertible. It was my retirement present to myself, in 2001. Also it has reached 25 years of age this year so in Texas it is now classified as a Classic.
I have owned 15 Ford branded cars plus my 1950 Mercury, which was a Ford product. Here is a list of the cars which I have owned, click here to read of the 35 cars that I have owned (a 1940 Chevy Tudor is missing--it had been wrecked, I paid $50 for it and was in the process of fixing it back up when I got drafted. I gave it to my landlord's son to finish the job.)
I worked for Ford Aerospace in New Hampshire and at NASA Houston for 19 years (first three in the Elgin Watch Factory, five in the U.S. Army) before I quit and switched careers to something less stressful--teaching at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas.

["Dutch", New cat in the family]
Newest Cat in the Family: Dutch is the newest feline in the neighborhood, adopted as a rescue, by our older daughter. He knows his owner is headed out for a work assignment and is hoping she will not notice him here, hoping to catch a ride and go with his owner.

Below is the second feral feline post, the first was on here or another blog, I couldn't find her when I looked.
Tom's choice, "Fresh": Fresh bananas are nice on cereal. These are not fresh, the skins are not yellow but rather a very dark brown. And inside the fruit is off color and mushy. When my wife and I were married I was almost horrified at first when she would have cereal for supper. But she has won me over there, I like it for a light and healthy supper meal. In the picture there are two other cereals, raisin bran and granola which are covered by what you see.
Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures: Three guys in a boat out in the Florida Everglades. Fishing? Alligator hunting?
A Lagniappe: Finish is a good "F" word. Mrs. Jim Finished her physical therapy sessions, now she'll add to these on strengthening her back. _ _ _

Letter "A" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 10 / Reflections and-or Street/Candid Captures

Starts with "A": Airplane starts with "A". Mrs. Jim flew in this little yellow plane the last time she flew private. It is a surplus rescue, a T-34 Trainer ( Wikipedia ) that is now giving rides to plane and flying enthusiasts. I'm not sure what year she flew, the T-34/5 planes were grounded in 2004 but eased back into use later.
She flew front seat and had the duty of putting down the landing gear. The pilot was in back, they flew over the Galveston Beach that ran maybe twenty miles down to the west of the city. They did barrels and loops with the top open.
I had gotten her the ride for one of her earlier birthdays. It was worth every penny seeing her sooo happy. Mrs. Jim's older brother had died flying his P38, shot down on a bombing run over Italy. Her younger brother also crashed his plane, an experimental, with his feet forward but survived and mended, his legs look like zippers.
Tom's suggestion, "Ample": In this old butter churn are the marbles that I have salvaged from my childhood, eighty some years ago. Some I believe were Agate marbles (Bing Search), I have not sorted them for a several years.
Ample in Number to make the churn look nice. It was used mostly by Mom, she made butter for our family. We now have it sitting on the guest room bedside table. Later Dad sold cream to the creamery in town and we were given butter and buttermilk for free.
A Favorite: This is Amber, our grandcat. Amber stayed with us while our daughter was in London working. She and her family stayed there five years, Amber was to die in 2013, before her regular boss lady came back to Texas. Read more of Amber here,

Reflections and/or Street Photos/Candid Captures: This lightened twilight photo is part of our green space build for Flood Control. It is two blocks to the south of our home. We walk quite often, it goes for miles, you can see one of the concrete walking paths under the trees to the upper left. Out of sight the path loops to the left and returns on the other side of the little stream.
We used to walk long distances but now at our ages we don't walk so far. Doctors' orders, Mrs. Jim's and mine, independently, suggested that we walk for thirty minutes five times a week. We give honest tries to do this. Mrs. Jim's breathing therapist suggested additionally that we climb a flight of stairs every two hours during the day.
Called the "Cinco Ranch Trails" (Cinco Ranch Subdivision, Katy, Texas) Pere the site (URL), "Get to know this 13.5-mile loop trail near Katy, Texas. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 3 h 57 min to complete. This is a very popular area for road biking, running, and walking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring."
One reader's comment on the site above,
"This trail can be customized for the distance that you prefer to walk. There are many parts that combine to make the 13+ miles. Most of these trails are single trails totaling approximately 1.5 to 2 miles each. I normally add 2 or 3 of these together. The only downfall to this place is the lack of trail markings. You could easily miss a turn and accidentally extend your hike if (you're) not familiar with the area. All walkways are paved."

Starts with "A": Automobile, now also called Car or Auto, starts with "A". This would be a typical Auto back in 1908, 114 years ago.

A Favorite: Amber was the Family Favorite until she died and Dutch (featured on last week's blog) came. Amber stayed with us when Karen assignment turned her to London. Karen stayed five years but Amber died before the five-year assignment was finished. [Click here to visit other Amber postings on this blog]

Reflections and/or Street Photos: Did you watch the British "Royal Ascott" horse racing this June 18th?
I have a Reflection of the TV interview showing on the Coffee Tabletop and unintended, my foot selfie was in the picture. This is my pretty one, the other has as crooked and webbed toes. The two Hamer Toes are from having a car running over them, and then stopped for a bit while I was screaming at the driver to pull up.
A Lagniappe: We had Apple Pie for 4th of July lunch. It was home baked by Mrs. Jim; it was a Marie Callender's "Ready to Bake" latticed apple pie entry we had found on sale at Kroger's.
A story. We were on the way home from Oregon back to Nebraska. We stopped at Presho, S.D, the town where Mom was born. I mentioned to my parents that I had seen as sign in the window of a small cafe saying, "Home Baked Pie". We all laugh, an inside joke, when "home baked pie" comes to someone's thinking.
So: We stopped and had pie (I had Apple, what else?) and coffee; the pie was very good. I mentioned to the waitress that with so many pies they all must make them at home before they come to work. She said, yes, we do bake them, they are Mrs. Smith's. Yes, we agree, Mrs. Smith does make very tasty pies. _ _ _ _

- The Antique Book had belonged to my father, likely a gift to him or a hand-me-down. Dad was born in 1910, the book was published in 1908.

(A) Starts with the Letter "C": Cat begins with the letter "C". This is Amber, our cat sat kitty, we sat with Amber while she and family were in London five years with her work.

(B) "Colorful" (Tom's Choice): This is our Colorfully decorated golf cart for a 4th of July parade with Mrs. Jim, Adi, and our new college graduate. She received her Bachelor and Master degrees in Math, and SHE HAS A JOB, using her specialty, "Statistics". She taught college Statistics as a professors assistant her junior and senior years and then also as a graduate student teacher. (Parades)
(C) A Favorite: As soon as our Boarded Cat came, she decided that our Beagle Dog had a much nicer bed than she. Adi wouldn't give in to her though, so Adi and Amber shared Adi's bed for her stay's duration (4 1/2 years until she died of old age, 18 years).
(D) Reflections: Now this sister Alley Cat decided to sit out the rain from her perch here, looking down a side street from her dry archway. She wasn't wild at all as the Alley Cat looked in my top picture.
Instead she is a friendly cat who makes her fur shiny and her stomach round by begging food off the street and from the people eating at the outside cafes down the street from our hotel in Dubrovnik, Croatia (picture 1) (picture2). (original post with sister's cat).

(1) Tell a bit about your experience or feelings about parades? When our grandkids were still kids they loved to go with us to a parade. Sometimes we were in the parade, several times as adults, once driving the Mustang top down to carry a retired marine. Also unusual I took the younger grandson to an Art Car Parade back when the Art Car Parade had just coming into existence. Most times it was the Houston Thanksgiving parade or the local 4th of July parade.
(2) What is your favorite Word starting with "C"? Mine today will be "Car" , I have had many in my life, list here to click. I also have about 40 toy cars, most scale model cast iron cars.
(3) Anything else you were reminded of here that you would like to tell about?

Hi, my name is Amber. I am a very pampered cat! I can't wait for 6 PM every night. That is when I get my Fancy Feast! I talk up a storm when it gets around that time(just to remind everyone that I am waiting)! (Reposted from December 12, 2005 -- Link, click here to see the original)
I was looking through my Archives and this one tugged at me. Amber went to Kitty Heaven in 2014. Amber was our daughter, Karen's, cat but we kept her for four years while she and family were in London where Karen worked. Amber is a rescue cat of sorts and lived a Happy life of nineteen years. Note that I said "a life" as she never used nor needed any of her other eight.
