Letter "Z" -- Friday's Weekend Roundup 08 / Reflections and-or Street Captures

[New cat in the family]

Tom's This Week's Prompts:
Starts with "Z";
A Favorite; and
Tom's choice, "ZZZ".

From James:
Weekend Reflections/Street Photos
 _ _ _ _

[New American Encyclopedia,
Grammar, Rhetoric, page 25,
c. 1908, P.F Colier & Son]

Starts with "Z":   Zeugma, a.k.a. Syllepsis, starts with the "Z".  A grammar term that means omitting an implied word, a verb or noun, which the reader by the mind presumes is there.  I don't think we had this in grammar school nor in high school.  Did you?

["as seen on TV" advertisement video]

My pictorial example for ZeugmaThey were all seated at the table and began eating, and the dog. [what was the dog doing, it also was at the table eating.]

A FavoritePets will be my favorite today.  This posting may be going to the dogs anyway.

This is Adi, our therapy dog, reading with BP

She specialized in reading with children

and visiting assisted living residents"

Adi died September 17, 2012 (read my tribute to her here

Adi was born September 1, 1996.  Read Adi's blog post here.

Tom's  choice,  "ZZZ":  "ZZZ", I was getting my Z's, a little snooZe, but then Jim came along and by his commotion woke me up.

Reflections and Street Captures:  This is Dutch, he didn't know we were watching him watch some birds play on the sidewalk and the street.  When he looked away, I caught this one.

Then he saw me and pleaded to make the room quiet again so the kids wouldn't scare his birds away.

Dutch, a Blue Russian cat, belongs to my younger daughter and youngest granddaughter.  He's still fairly new to our family.

Read of "
Princess BP's" tale about Katrin being naughty with the
toothpaste.

Lagnaippe:  I can't leave the Alphabet with telling of Katrin .  She was our Toy Poodle dog, who died in November 2014.  We miss her very much also.
Mrs. Jim 'inherited' Katrin when her real mother died of cancer back in 2009.  Basically, she has been a very good dog, a lot better for us than for her former owner.  Some links to visit:

The Letter "Q" ~~ Rev 04 - Weekend Roundup and Reflections

The 43rd issue of Weekend Roundup for this year...
(THE SEVENTEENTH LETTER FOR THIS SERIES)
- the Letter "Q" Prompts are:
(A) Starts with the Letter "Q"; (B) A Favorite;
(C) "Q" for '"Q"uite' (Tom's choice); and (D) Reflections

[photo from Wikipedia -- Quince, Van Gogh]
[click to enlarge, once or twice]
(A) Starts with the Letter "Q": The fruit, Quince, starts with "Q".  Quince isn't very good eating raw, even with salt. But it is delicious when cooked, pie will be my choice.
Quince Recipes googled, click here

(B) A Favorite:  This Wednesday, October 30, is my birthday.  It's a big one in that I've lived so long but more so that the number does not end in zero or five.

Still I might run away.  I have done that before and Mrs. Jim always comes with me.

Then after a nice meal comes a good nap!

(C) "Q" for '"Q"uiet' (Tom's choice):  Shhh!!!

Please be Quiet, dogs are sleeping.  Both of these dogs of ours are playing and sleeping NOW in Doggie Heaven.

To read about Adi and Katrin, Beagle and Toy Poodle, start by clicking here.

(D) Reflections:  Window facing the Parking Lot at our local McDonald's.

(E) A Lagniappe for you:  A couple of Halloween Holiday Items I wouldn't want you to miss.  The Blue Pumpkins  were for sale at our local Kroger Store and the cute Scare Crow was at our church lobby for a photo op for families.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _

My Two Questions (you can answer just one if you'd like):

1. Does the little celebration at Halloween make you feel happier? If not, why not? Yes. It reminds me of the time that I went Trick or Treating with my kids.  Now it's grandkids and greats but someone else goes with them.

2. What is the Whacky Halloween item that you have seen, or own?  Mine is actually cute, a couple of seedy scare crow folk, man an wife.

Bonus Questions:
1. What is your favorite "Q" word?  "Quaint" is my favorite "Q" word because I love going to antique stores where perhaps I will find something old to add to my collection.  An old toy, preferably some with wheels.  Or a cup to add to my Texas Bluebonnet Cup collection.

2. What are your thoughts about Scare Crows?  I always wanted to make a real one but never got the job done.

Weekend Roundup ~~ 04-19 (for letter "D")

The 4th issue of Weekend Roundup for this year... the Letter "D".
 Prompts are:
(A) Starts with "D"; (B) A Favorite; (C) Down; and (D) Reflection(s).

(A) Starts with "D": "Diet" starts with "D". For a while my appetite isn't as strong as it has been. This enables me to just 'snack' for evening meals. My favorite snack is a "Diet Coke Float" made with Diet Coke and Blue Bell Light Vanilla ice cream. Pictured are the ingredients. Since my doctor visit this Monday I have kept a three pound loss. I would like to lose more if the weight would come from my middle.

Then click what you get again for Super Large view

(B) A Favorite: "Dandelion Salad" (with recipe)

Click this for Larger view Then click what you get again for Super Large view

[large picture] [super sized]

(C) Down: "Downstairs" is self explanatory. Needed are a set of stairs and something at the bottom. Upstairs when I took this stairway picture was daughter Karen's cat, Amber. Downstairs we kept Mrs. Jims toy poodle, Katrin.

We put the baby gate in the stairway to keep Katrin Downstairs so she wouldn't be eating the cat food upstairs.  It was okay if Amber would come Downstairs but she seldom did.  She did like to sleep on Adi's bed as did Katrin.  Adi was our nice Beagle Dog.
[click on Adi, Katrin, and Amber "Labels" below, see more]

(D) Reflection(s):  Just barely visible, blackbirds preening in their Reflections on the truck doors.  (preening, Google)
Next I found this in my files, it is an echoing reflection, stair-stepping back into itself.
If you think I'm hurting for Reflections this week, I agree, I was.  But this and the top Black Bird pictures are kind of nice.

Cool Western Breeze, Open Window -- Two Shoes Tuesday

Cool western breeze, open window
.
Cool western breeze, open window,
Calmly blowing flickering flames
The candles don't seem to mind

Rain in pin sized droplets glistening
Sagging curtain, it's dripping wet
Worries, soon to fall, on the floor

Murky puddles grow, rain stops not
Once was dust, now is mud and slime
Fit for pigs, the floor doesn't mind

Open window lets nature in

Katrin, our toy poodle died Tuesday last week

She died in her doctor's office of heart failure.  We loved Katrin so very much, Mrs. Jim had "rescued" her from a dying friend.

At left is Katrin last year on her 13th July birthday walking across the back porch to our back door. On the right is a very guilty dog back in 2008 when we first got her.  She had gotten into BP's toothpaste.  See this link:

Feed the Dog — Six Word Saturday —

.
my Six Words:

Jim, don't eat the dog pill

I did that once.

Katrin is on pills now.  In the morning on an empty stomach she takes one Denamarin coated in peanut butter.

Then at noon and at bedtime, around midnight, she takes a Ursodiol pill, again with peanut butter.

She likes the pills. If one accidentally drops on the floor she will scarf it up.

Both pills are for a liver condition and are used to stimulate the organ.

The Ursodiol pills are compounded specially for her prescription and encapsulated by the local pharmacy (link).

One day at noon, instead of putting her evening pill in with my own night time pills, I ate Katrin's Ursodiol

Above is her evening meal.  Both noon and bedtime meals are baked or boiled chicken thighs and frozen green peas cooked for Katrin.  To this I add 1/3 of a Vienna sausage and a little over 1/2 ounce of finely chopped croutons.  Her noon meal is two ounces of chicken and 1 1/2 ounces of peas.

If she will eat it I feed her some Purina "Moist & Meaty -- Rise & Shine -- Awaken Bacon and Egg Flavor" dog food for breakfast.  We have her weighed every month when she gets her arthritis shot.  So far she has weighed 12.2 consistently, down from 14.4 before she became ill.  Any changes will result in more or less food.  She does get a few snacks, a huge spoonful of Greek Yogurt at bedtime, and some pieces of a granola bar along with a tiny scrap bite when we clean our plates at the sink.

A Random Five post [013] — I didn't do it !

.
my Five things (I did not do)

One: I did not go to Brighton on Tuesday.  Going to Brighton Beach is something I had been wanting to do for a long time. In fact it was my idea to go now. But when it came time to go I decided I would not go. Mrs. Jim, KP, and Billy went and had a lot of fun. I might go later, we will see.

On the minus side, the water was cold (Texas Gulf Coast beaches are warm and have spoiled us), there wasn't any sand, and it was supposed to rain.  Well, it didn't rain and the Brighton Pier rides were nice.  The food was nice too, the kids had fish and chips.

I stayed home and made myself a halibut (baked and breaded) sandwich with cheese, mustard, and lettuce.  It was really good.  I also had a cod fish cake and some musk melon.

Two:  I was going to do a mustard test before I left home but I didn't get it done.  I was going to test French's against a store brand (Kroger).  The Kroger was wonderful on hot dogs.

Karen and her friend from Houston went to Paris last weekend.  The brought me this Maille Chablis Moutard (mustard), to confuse me with the others.  But she said I couldn't take it home because it wasn't sealed, it was just poured into the jar and closed with a cork.

I had bought another jar which will seal to use while we were here.  It was a Maille Original  that I got at our neighborhood Tesco, which is the largest supermarket chain in the United Kingdom (Wikipedia).

Three:  I wasn't very close when T.H.E .. B.A.B.Y came home from the hospital but I did get these nice pictures.

Four:  I wish that I could give our Katrin (toy poodle) a hug but I can't.  The next best thing we did was to Skype her.  She seemed to like that but also seemed a little subdued.

Katrin has kidney problems and will have to take a big blue pill, horse-pill-sized, every morning an hour before her breakfast.  In the picture with the blue, her bed had slipped down between the car seats and she went down with it.

Five:  I didn't bring any tweezers and Mrs. Jim left hers home.  That means I haven't pulled any nose hair out since we've been here.

Perhaps I won't have to though as I found a nice pair of scissors with a little steel ball on the end of each blade.  That keeps me from cutting my self.  I may never pull another nose hair.

Something I did do:  I had a hot dog before I left.  On July 3rd, for Independence Day (on July 4).  That was good because July is National Hot Dog Month.  Have you had your hot dog this month?  See mine here on Wednesday's Jim's Little Blog (link). Maybe better than this fish and chips and mushy peas.

Happy Birthday Katrin

.

A BIG, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to KATRIN!

Katrin, our adopted toy poodle, is 13 years old today.  We have had her for seven years now, since July, 2008 (YouTube Link).

We like her a lot!!!  And since Adi (our beagle dog, my buddy) and Amber (an amber yellow tiger cat) died Katrin is our only pet.

Is she spoiled?  Yes, she surely is spoiled.

Katrin loves chocolate -- Sunday night / Monday morning -- Good dog Adi

[large picture] [extra large]

This little dog wouldn't hurt a flea. But she is really a nut tracking down the chocolate she loves.

Below is what is left of the Christmas wrapping that she tore off. Next her plan was to nibble down the corner of he box until she hit pay dirt chocolate.

[large picture] [extra large] [large picture] [extra large]

[large picture] [extra large]

Then there is Adi. She has never tasted chocolate. We did give her grapes when she was very young but then we found out that they were bad for her too.

Isn't she a sweet dog!
