Letter "O" -- Weekend Roundup and Street/Reflections
Note my "booted foot!!!"
I fell last Friday and broke, of all body parts, my right foot big toe. Foot doctor says to wear it for eight weeks and hope the break will grow back together.

(A) Starts with the Letter "O": Orange Tree starts with "O". It's time for an update. My much posted Orange Tree froze in our unusual February winter storm and a Blanket Over it wasn't enough help.
I am thinking of a pretty blooming cherry tree to replace it but Mrs. Jim thinks that maybe our winters aren't long enough and cold enough for cherries. It will be replaced with a small tree again.

(B) "Over" (Tom's Choice): Penguins all Over. I used this picture in my Day 8 NaPoWriMo "poem", at NaPoWriMo 2021.
(C) A Favorite: Left Over Mac 'n Cheese. This day I was almost Out of Luck, Only Five Pieces of macaroni were left for me.
Like many Other Grandparents we keep a supply of Mac 'n Cheese for our youngest 1granddaughter who lives within walking distance from us. Right now I have a small bowl of Left Over Mac in our refrigerator.
(D) Street/Reflections: "Family Feud" score board, Reflected on the coffee table. To win $2000 today's contestant winning team needed at least 200 points, they ended up with only 153.

(E) A Lagniappe: A nice Tea for Old Folk had these goodies for eating along with our tea. We were just about to sample the chocolate puff cookies when we had to leave for a tour of the place.

(1) Tell about any dealings you have had with an Afternoon
Tea. When we are on a cruise, most cruise ships have Afternoon Tea at about 3:00PM for an hour, either in a dining room or large lounge. I like the lounge high looking out over the bow or the aft on showing contrails of water being kicked up by the propellers.
Also, our younger daughter, KP likes Hotel Afternoon Tea, especially the hotels in London.
(2) What is your favorite Word starting with "O"? Mine today will be "Often", because unlike many other words, it only has one definition. And also because it means things are happening.
(3) Anything else you were reminded of here that you would like to tell about?

~~ Friday’s Hunt v.4.11 -- "K" is for ...
Friday's Hunt topics for the week of September 15th:
(1) Starts with K; (2) Stinky; and (3) Old.
(1) Starts with "K": "K" is for Kids. Since Sunday was Grandparents Day our third-grader kid's classes hosted their Grandparents for lunch. We went to KP's school, armed with a Chic-fil-A kid's meal, a chocolate milk shake, a Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich, a Diet Coke, and two small bags of chips, and had lunch with her.
This is our 4th year to attend, their having been back from living in London (U.K.) five years, again for now a fourth year of elementary school observation.
"K" for kid's grandparents also has the kid's learning about cataract surgery. Mrs. Jim had hers this Wednesday.
And the Kids too worked with crews to dry houses after Hurricane Harvey. Our help varied, mainly Mrs. Jim and I helped coordinate activities in our Sunday school class in providing prayer support for the victims, for the houses, and for the crews themselves, especially in the area of safety as far as electrical shock, cutting, fatigue, and overheating.
Additionally all three of us, Mrs. Jim, KP--we have been keeping KP for the last ten days, there was no school until Monday--and I one afternoon was spent repackaging and grading diapers into paper sacks holding 20 diapers. Another afternoon, Mrs. Jim did wheelbarrow duty, hauling wallboard, wet insulation, and carpeting to the curbs at a house that needed drying.
Drying prepares a home for contractor work rebuilding. (In 1979 when our home flooded with 33 inches of water the Flood Insurance Program paid us $36,000 to rebuild outs. Building costs have more than doubled now, and only 17-20% of Houston homes were covered by flood insurance as the price had gone way up.)
Below is a day's agenda for 12 crews to clean and dry 15 houses. We are just about finished, there were 618 homes that were appealed to our church needing flood help according to the last figures given us to have our class pray for. Additionally, "All work and no play makes Mrs. Jim a dull lady" works for certain at our home. Her she is planning another cruise and looking at last year's which left from Los Angels and went around Cape Horn and back up to Rio de Janeiro.
(2) Stinky: Stinky Feet. But our daughter and I do not have stinky feet, they smell like STRAWBERRIES. Have ever since Karen was a little girl.
(3) Old: My old Ford. I've had several, but this was my last one, being hauled away to be with it's new owner. A 1950 Ford Tudor. That doesn't count Mom's 1974 Ford Mustang II Ghia of which I have had since Mom died back in 1999. It is classified as a forty-three-year-old Classic here in Texas.
Well, anyway, here is a picture of it up on the flatbed auto hauler. It does drive, but I never did except around the block when I bought it. But I did drive it when I visited the new owner, even the overdrive worked. I think it had 102K miles on it and was all original. I hauled it back from Nebraska in 2007 but then I didn't know much of it's history. Neither did the fellow I bought it from.
Note: I have had another 1950 Ford Tudor, black like this on back in 1965. It was sort of my hobby car, not club or anything like this time. It also was original except for the dual exhausts. Here is Mom's 1974 Mustang II Ghia. I was the first owner, Mom wanted me to buy her a stick shift from the lease cars turned in for the Spring of 1975. I worked for Ford Aerospace at NASA Houston then and some of our executives were encouraged to lease a new Ford every year.
Mom didn't trust the automatic transmission in the car Dad had purchased as she couldn't tell what gear it was in and was afraid it might be choosing the wrong gear at times. This Mustang II and a hot rod Ford Torino were the only Fords that year with standard transmission. She said, "Yes, get it for me" of the little down-sized Mustang. That was the first year of downsizing for it. It was built on a Ford Pinto chassis (we had a yellow 1972 model Pinto for our driver car--it was lost in our 1979 flood along with two other cars and a motorcycle).

~~ Friday’s Hunt v.3.16 -- "P" is for ...
Friday's Hunt for the week of April 21: (1) Starts with P; (2) Week's Favorite; and (3) foot/feet
(1). Starts with "P":
"P" is for pills, the pills I take every day. This in the end of my morning ritual of ten (10) pills between breakfast and lunch. There are nine pills later on during the day.
Two of the morning's are prescription, one is a full strength aspirin, six are various vitamins and minerals, and three are digestive aids My dctors and I think that all these pills are helping to keep me alive.
I need to have food with some of those so generally I have saltines and either peanut butter or cottage cheese, low fat or no fat, with my pills.
"P" is for Potato Salad. Mrs. Jim made some for us this week.
Sometimes Mrs. Jim tries to make Mom's and has just about gotten it perfected. As far as we know hers was never written down, she just had it perfected and kept it in her head.
Mrs. Jim makes a delicious Potato Salad with her own experimenting as well. One version has small apple slices in to give it a little crunch. Always it has onions, sweet pickle relish, hard boiled eggs, and mayo. I think she might put a little sugar in sometimes as well.
In the picture of my lunch plate you see lots of yellow mustard applied to the top. My Rule No. 107 is never to mess with the cooks creations very much. The cook in your favorite restaurant appreciates when you ooh and awe over his or her cooking. But on the leftovers, Rule No. 107.a allows for a liberal application of mustard on Potato Salad.
(2) Week's Favorite: This could have been the Potato Salad above, but too much has been going on for that.
Instead, this Week's Favorite was Easter and the pre-Easter preparations. My pictures will be fairly self-explaining. [You can click on them to make them a tad bit larger. My Picasa (free) program is not working well so that will be all the bigger I can make them at this time.]
Good Friday evening our daughter Karen and family invited Mrs. Jim and I over for Dinner, aka Supper. Above is the hors d'oeuvre hour yummies. She baked the Gougères (link) making them of Goat Cheese. The eggs are candy coated chocolate eggs, in the other bowls are pop corn, potato chips, and mixed nuts. On the tray was crackers and anther homemade cheese spread.
Seafood Bouillabaisse was our main dish. It is a French tomato based stew derivation with some vegetables. Then Karen's for seafood had mussels, shrimp, and whitefish.
When Mrs. Jim is with Karen and KP we have a 'three generation' gathering. By the time I took this picture we had all removed our crowns that were inside the crackers.
(Easter Crackers link) On the Easter Table Crackers (they also make them for Christmas and just plain party table crackers) you have the neighbor on your right take one end and you take the other, in your right hand. Then your neighbor on your left will offer you one end of his or her cracker. One command every one pulls. The thing pops when it gets pulled apart.
(3) foot/feet: I have sometimes threatened to have a Pretty Foot contest or an Ugly Foot contest on my blog. Then I will say that my right foot win the Ugly Foot contest and the right will win the Pretty Foot contest. I do have several posts about feet or foot situations. ( Links, Feet, Foot )

At the front of our house we placed the cross you see to the left of the entryway. The letters are on the backside and the resulting white cross goes out Friday Evening. Then on Sunday morning the sign is meant to be turned around showing the letters, "He is Risen!" The smaller letters below say, "He is Risen Indeed!" I brought the sign in Tuesday morning.
(3) foot/feet: I have sometimes threatened to have a Pretty Foot contest or an Ugly Foot contest on my blog. Then I will say that my right foot win the Ugly Foot contest and the right will win the Pretty Foot contest. I do have several posts about feet or foot situations. ( Links, Feet, Foot )

Mrs. Jim's pantry, a little QUIZ — Ruby (Red) Tuesday
My question is, "What all is behind this door?"Answering that would take a long time because we are looking at the door to Mrs. Jim's kitchen pantry. We could narrow that down to, "what is red?" Better for Ruby Tuesday.
There still is a lot of stuff in there so next I will show you the shelves on her 'spice rack' fastened to the inside of the door.

This is the inside of the top two shelves.You can see there is some red there. She was just given the three bottles of black peppercorn; two are flavored.
My more simple question of the day is, "What is inside the yellow plastic bag on the second shelf above? What is the red stuff inside used for?"
Here you can see the other four shelves. Mrs. Jim is pretty good at organizing her stuff. She will get a good rating for that on her upcoming annual performance review.
There is a little story behind her organization. When I retired (Mrs. Jim had already been retired for two years--that for sure gave her a set routine which I promptly busted) I offered to organize her kitchen for her.
I for sure thought she would be grateful for my help. A lady had written a magazine article I had read that the fist thing her husband did when he retired was to organize the kitchen. This lady was grateful, very grateful enough to write the article.
Mrs. Jim was not so grateful. In fact she said that I should organize my own junk and then I could help her with hers. That first part will never happen. Someday the kids may retire and do it for me.
Now for the answer to what is in the yellow plastic bag question. It is not berries. They go in Mrs. Jim's refrigerator.
