Mrs. Jim and I were pleasantly surprised by this nice, but different state welcome center.

It had a nice little museum upstairs. If you haven't seen a bale of cotton, this is what one looks like.

The help there were very friendly. They helped us find a nice catfish restaurant on up the road.

The coffee was fresh, and our favorite brand, Community Coffee. It was free too, I had a second cup as it really hit this traveler's spot.

Mississippi Welcome Centers: http://www.visitmississippi.org/welcome/washington.asp
.
The Washington County Welcome Center was a project created by the City of Greenville to participate in the 1984 World’s Fair in New Orleans. The project was to resemble a nineteenth century steamboat. The city then proposed to use the exhibit as a tourist information center after the World’s Fair was over. The steamboat replica was taken apart and brought back to Greenville to serve as a tourist center in 1985. The replica now sits in eighteen inches of water and is visited by tourists across the country. The steamboat replica is located at Highway 82 West and Reed Road. The staff welcomes tourist to visit daily.

Hi Jim ~~ I see you are traveling again, so you must be OK - or crazy !
Looks a nice place to visit. Thanks for your comments on Ben the Fireman story. We should hear more of these instead of all doom and gloom.
Take great care and Enjoy. Regards, Merle.

Thanks, Merle -- I'm not traveling now except to the doctors and church.
I'm still in that right leg 'immobilizer' and won't be back to normal for a couple of months, if all goes well and my broken kneecap heals without surgery.
The River Road Queen here was a nice place to stop on our way east, to Kentucky, Pennslyvania, the airport at Newark, N.J, , and on to Ireland where I got hurt.
..

Hi Jim, Nice photo's looks like a nice spot to stop and have a bite to eat,.Hope your knee heals quickly so you can get on the road again. Take care

Looks like a fun place to visit. Pray that your knee gets better quickly!

Jim
When you find places like that they just make you want to stay. I was at a welcome center once and the people there didn't even know where they kept the maps much less anything about the surrounding area. How was the catfish?
Ralph
