Two down -- Gateway is still up and running

These two are down. Mrs. Jim's Averatec on the left was so nice for her. She really liked its 13-inch screen. It developed a vertical line on the display which turned into two. The extended warranty was over in a week. WalMart said send it back, they would fix it. [click on pictures for larger view]

Mrs. Jim's computer is now in Illinois with Micro Medics awaiting a new LCD panel (screen). On their first try the wrong one came, the right one is due in Illinois Monday. I assume it didn't have to come from China.

On the right above is my computer, a old trusty HP. I've had it for years. It has a 14-inch monitor which I really like. Norton 360 was dragging it down, there was a fix but putting the fix on wasn't that easy. I killed it. It won't even come up in safe mode. Thank goodness HP was including restore discs back then. Now if I just had time to make it go again.

This is old faithful right now. Even though it isn't that old I must talk good about it because it is all we have right now. Mrs. Jim and I share it.

It is a Gateway (again 14-inch screen, I really like that size) and is young in years, less than a year. I bought it really cheap to take when we travel. That way if it got stolen in the airport or motel room or parking lot we wouldn't be out that much.

The Gateway has turned out to be my pet, it is fast and easy to work, especially with the Vista and Explorer 7. Here it is helping me do my Sunday school lesson preparation last Saturday. My desk was cluttered so I just cleared off the work table and worked there.

Out the window is our back yard. The first 22 feet are ours, the next part over to the houses we share with some golfers. Ours is a golf course home, we are on the dog leg of the eleventh fairway of the Weiskopff course. We have three courses in our subdivision, two of which we can afford (barely) to play.

Too bad, as you can see, Mrs. Jim had a happy little computer who didn't care one bit that it was broken. Bye-bye, and hurry back!

A visit with my granddaughter -- MidWeek Blues -- This and that

Posted Wednesday on my Photo and Poem Place blog [link]:

These are a conglomerate of SOME of my this week's Monday activities. On Monday I saw my cardiologist at the Houston Medical Center. We decided to postpone putting in another stent, this time to my left kidney. It is about 50% blocked but we will watch it and I will come back in December for another sonogram.

And now for a peek at the granddaughter. This is Jenna, she is a senior Marketing (Supply Chain Distribution major, Finance minor) student at the University of Houston. We are soooooo proud of Jenna, she is making wonderful grades too.

Her picture here is in front of the Finance Association student organization. She is Corporate Relations officer, first after the vice president in ranking. Last year she was Community Relations Officer and did a really bang up job with that.

We had lunch at Niko Niko's Greek Restaurant and then came to the U of H bookstore where Grandpa got do some serious shopping with his credit card. Afterwards she showed me the new Business Administration building. It sure did beat the old one where I spent so much time working for my B.S. in Economics degree.

We are all so proud of Jenna. Way to Go Girl! Oh yes, she invited me to the Rice/U of H football game with her too. Can't beat that.

This pretty blue high rise was perched McGreggor Blvd. That was coming back from the doctor on my way for the lunch engagement with Jenna.

This nice old house was also on McGreggor Blvd. The neighborhood is going down some but the house still are grand considering their day.

This was a half way decent poker hand, a full house, as shown on my Mustang odometer. It had 50K on it when I got it as a three-year-old in 2001. 30,000 miles on a car in eight years is pretty small considering I drive around in the U.S. fourth largest city (6,000,000 plus metropolitan area population) of Houston, Texas.

Or do less. All she requires is a BLUE PICTURE, you don't have to write.

The Jim Bunch Eats -- Ruby (Red) Tuesday -- at a zero-star restaurant

The RED LETTERS on that sign say "DOWN HOME COOKING."

The Jim Bunch went to eat in their old cars again last Thursday. We went to this little restaurant on US Hwy 190 out east of Huntsville, Texas, about eight miles.

You have to remember we are a Texas Bunch when you look at the pictures. Dress was "every day go to town" clothes.

The food was supposed to be good and people came all the way out from Huntsville to eat lunch. The place was crowded, but about a third were from our club. We had four of these long tables.

I said 'supposed to be good,' I really don't like brown gravy on my ribs. I am not sure they were even ribs as there weren't any rib bones. I had ribs with gravy (couldn't get them any other way), green beans, and cooked (still a little on the raw side) squash. And a piece of cornbread and a VERY SMALL side dish of raspberry cobbler for desert.

It wasn't the food that got the zero-star rating. The food was about a one and a half-star. It didn't make me sick but sure did fill me up, too full.

This was a (RED) sign to come. It says "Restrooms are out of order." Yet they were open and ready for use. There weren't any towels or T.P. I missed the sign and the tools and napkins to take in with me. I always wash, then when no towels I dry my hands on my jeans.

Uugh!

For sure a zero-star rating, nothing worked!

Some more of the Jim Bunch. Mrs. Jim couldn't come, she had a Canasta with the ladies thing on her schedule.

On the right are a few of the old Fords. More were on the side of the gravel parking lot. I took my '98 Mustang Convertible. I had the top down until after lunch. It got hot outside while we were inside.

A Sunday Poem: Lost Is Not Home

.
Lost Is Not Home

I'll let you out here
home is on the other side
just stroll through the brush

if you should be lost
pray to God He'll show the Way
take you in His arms

*** Jesus the Way to the Father
5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"
6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
