— My Alphabe-Thursday (2nd), the letter "J" / Thursday Two Questions —

.
New Zealand and Australia; more of our most recent cruise pictures
Here we have some pictures to honor Alphabe-Thursday letter "J"

"J" is for Junk Mail.  We get plenty of it.  I wonder if this New Zealander's box gets any of it.  About a fourth of the mail boxes in NZ seem to have some admonition note left for the mail carrier to not leave junk mail  in their boxes.  I hope it works for them.

Here are a couple of creative mail boxes used by the folks living in Port Chalmers.  I wonder how much junk mail they really are getting.  Please note the church in the far end of my picture's sidewalk.

This is the inside of the church above.  We stayed in Port Chalmers, New Zealand, while our ship was docked there.  Some of the others went on 'excursions' furnished by Princess Cruises or that they had negotiated on their own.

Mostly we walked around but we did enjoy free Internet for over an hour in the library, visited this old Lutheren church, went into the grocery store for a couple of items we needed, visited the (free) maritime museum, and window shopped at the various tourist targeted stores.

Our walking took us through a scenic path down the sidewalks of town.  Towards the end we walked up the big hill above the hotel pictured on the right above.  The pictures below were taken from up on that hill.  It is steeper and higher than it looks in the picture.  [You can click on any picture for a larger size view.  On most browsers you can click again to get an even larger picture.  Do a 'backspace' or click the back arrow to return to my blog.]

Back to Junk Mail.  The above picture was taken in 2006 and posted then (link).  It is of a pile of mail probably half of it is Junk.  A similar experience awaited me this time when we came home from New Zealand and Australia.  Oh yes, I do always take these boxes back to the P.O.  I've been told too, that there is a big fine for keeping them.

Now for my Thursday Two Questions.

My last post last week was about the of "I" word, "I" is for Invisible .and partly about the crossing the International Date Line during our flights.   I enjoyed reading about your kind feelings towards these words.

I was able to take a picture out the window of that line.  Unfortunately it was dark outside so the picture leaves a lot to the imagination.

My Two Questions for this week (you can answer just one if you wish):.
1. How much Junk Mail do you encounter?
Much more than half of our mail is Junk. . I get a lot of junk e-mail too.  I keep some here and others in another blog here.
.2
2. How much of it do you read? What parts if any of Junk Mail do you enjoy reading?
I enjoy reading the travel advertisements and the free local interest magazines.

Bonus Question: What is your favorite "J" word?
. .

Great J post! I always get a heap of junk emails which I hate. Junk mail in the post in the UK isn't so bad - we definitely don't get as much as you show in your picture! That seems like a nightmare. :-)

Junk mail!!! Excellent choice for letter J. The amount of junk mail that is sent all around the world - staggering, I think. Now, I walk back into the house through the garage and on the way, stop at the trash recycle bin, and stand there and throw all the junk mail in ASAP. Very rarely do I read junk mail. And, email junk mail - ugh. Don't get me started!!!

Ha! Hope that works. Or write Return to Sender, and post it all back!

We don't get as much junk mail, as we once did. I wonder, if part of the reason for the decline is where we do everything online these days. To answer your question, I would say about 90% of the mail we get is JUNK. I just throw it out. I'm in automatic when it comes to junk email. I don't open, I simply hit DELETE period. I would say I read than 5% of the junk we get and if I do it's only because I want to make sure it's nothing of importance like as in relating to anything personally connected. One has to be a little cautious as to not toss important info out.

Great fun Alphabe-J and T2Q post!

Junk mail -- argh! We don't get too much, fortunately and the only ones we read are local take-out menus. Great "J" post!

Great post, Jim! Lovely shots of NZ - did you make it to Rotarua? Amazing place!

Wonderful post for 'J' and your trip photos are fascinating ~

(A Creative Harbor) ^_^

Junk mail immediately goes into the recycle bin I have off to the side of the kitchen and I get too much !

I forgot to say, but we cut off all the name and address parts and shred those. The other parts go to recycling.
..

1. How much Junk Mail do you encounter?

Way more than half the mail we receive we consider junk mail. Tree after tree after tree. All trying to sell something.

2. How much of it do you read? What parts if any of Junk Mail do you enjoy reading?

None. It gets tossed as soon as our name and address gets torn off.

Bonus Question:

Joyous is my favorite 'J' word.

Have a terrific day. My best to Mrs. Jim. :)

My favorite J word is JOY! It also happens to be my middle name, and comes from Psalm 30:5 "Weeping may endure for a moment, but JOY comes in the morning." I wrote a book entitled "Joy in the Mourning" after loosing 3 family members in an accident on the way to my dad's funeral. My parent's home burned down 4 months later, and then my mom died a month after that. It is amazing to me that God can give grace to enable to experience JOY even in the midst of suffering!

Junk mail - I look through some of it, and toss LOTS! It's too easy to pile it up and make a horrific mess to have to go through later if I don't toss it right away.

That's funny about the 'no junk mail' signs in NZ! I guess the letter carrier ends up with a lot of undelivered mail (although I think I'd rather decide for myself what is junk and what is not!) We get a fair amount of junk mail -- mostly store flyers and such -- just goes directly into the recycle bin!

I wondered if the mail man actually keep the junk mail out? I wished we can do that here in the US.

I get some junk mail, not a lot. I am very careful not to sign up for things that I think will result in promotions. The junk mail I get is from the credit cards and the banks, not much else. Thank goodness.
I like when I get magazines in the mail. So I will be getting a couple of subscriptions from Christmas...yay!

I wonder if that works over there to post no junk? It sure wouldn't here. I would say these days most of our mail is junk mail 85% and 15% bills! And 0% checks. lol sandie

I get a lot of junk mail and usually throw it out at the garbage can before I even get in my house!

I encounter not that much physical junk mail but more e-junk. I only enjoy reading the phamplets from the supermarkets to know what is the latest offers/discounts.

i don't get as much as i used to, but i never even read it. your photos are great, jim!!

My favourite J word is Joss (ha ha ha). I don't get as much junk mail as I used to. Have a great weekend. J for Jim!!!

I am glad you enjoyed your cruise! Those photos are lovely.

1. Too much. Especially the political ones!! Oy!

2. I don't read them. Dh might read some.

My J word right now is Justice. But with grace, knowing that we all will need it at some point.

Enjoy your weekend.

How cool to visit New Zealand. Can you tell I'm just a tad jealous?

Jim, if I like my junk mail, I don't consider it "junk". I like the seed catalogs. We get lots of junk!

I get soooo much Junk mail... I always think it is such a waste...

I love the cute little statues...

Great Job for the letter J...

Thanks for linking.

A+
