— My Alphabe-Thursday (2nd), the letter "B" / Thursday Two Questions / MidWeek Blues —

.
"B" is for Blue. I found this little antique toy pedal car in a friend's museum. The friend owns a Ford dealership so this toy car is special to him.

The car is a blue toy 1940 Ford Pickup.  I am sure that it has been restored and probably painted at that time to this very blue blue color.

1940 Fords did come in a blue but these were much darker.

My favorite toy car was a 1929 or so cast iron Checker Cab similar to this one.  I seem to remember a taxi sign like the real ones on the top.

It was a gift from my cousin, a gift forced by my Grandpa H.  The cousin was being selfish in playing with his toys, he had two of these, so Grandpa said "Give it to Jimmy, to keep."

The toy cab was also special because it came from a great aunt who's children had grown up long before.

Now for my Thursday Two Questions.

I really enjoyed your responses to my "A" Angels post of last week.

My Two Questions for this week (you can answer just one if you wish):

1. What are the toys from your childhood that you remember?
I also remember my bicycle that I shared with my sister.  Dad ordered it from Sears Roebuck and he went to the train station to pick it up.  I had baseball stuff, a ball, bat, and glove.  But there wasn't anyone for me to play with.  I never did have an electric train but it was on my Santa list every year

2. Do you have some toys today?
Like most adult boys, I have a few toys.  Left from childhood, my gyroscope, Dick Tracy camera, an old rubber tractor, ALL of my marbles, and a monkey that know his multiplication table through 12's.  Also I have my Red Ryder BB gun.  It still shoots but I don't use it much.
In my adult years I have accumulated about forty-five (40) cast iron classic cars and tractors.  I don't play with these much either, just look at them.

Bonus Question: What is your favorite "B" word? .

My Thursday Two Questions post is for Amanda.

I posted the above for Alphabe-Thursday 'B' assignments with Miss Jenny at the head of the class. You can find her by clicking right here.

I am not feeling so BLUE now because I found my hidden lost car keys.

If you want to post a MidWeek Blues picture or story, go get directions from Rebecca by clicking on the logo picture on the right. She has a Mr. Linky and good directions . Just do what I did. Or you can do less. All she requires is a BLUE PICTURE or a BLUE STORY.

I've always like miniatures - cars, furniture....as long as it's small and to scale, I like it.
1) My favourite toy, in childhood, was a pair of rubber dolls. I imagined they were brother and sister, and named them Ruthie and Butch.
2) Does a wagon in the shed count?

I love miniature cars too. We do have quite a few at home and the boys love playing with it.
Hope you find your car keys.

FANTASTIC! Dr and Mrs Jim found the car keys :) The hiding place must have been very good.

I can only remember a soft bear toy from my childhood. My siblings and I had one each. Sorry, but I don't have any toys today. All the toys at home belong to my child now :)

No, I don't have any toys now! :-(

But I do see a rather lot of (er, older!!) gentlemen driving small, sleek, shiny sports car! (Toys for, er, older boys?!)

A lovely weekend to you & yr family, Jim!

Lola & Nora:)

Gorgeous little blue truck - but, I must agree, your Checker Cab had my vote too. What a beauty! (And, I love the story of how it came into your possession!)
As far as toys I remember from childhood - I would have to say it will always be dolls. a little rubber doll name Jamie that I adored. Patty Play Pal, Barbie (the original with frizzy bangs and black/white striped bathing suit!), Chatty Baby and Chatty Cathy. Yes, I would have to say it would be my dolls. Where are they? Who knows. My mother is from the school of 'throw it away and no clutter', and I have an idea that many of my dolls met with that fate when I no longer played with dolls. (

Oh the trucks are excellent shots for 'B' ~ I still have dolls from my childhood and a few old, old children's poetry books ~ (A Creative Harbor) ^_^

Love that pedal car!
My favorite playthings as a child were paper dolls and playing with my doll house. My neighbor friend and I would play for hours -- we would also make rooms with pencils, like a floor plan, and furnish the house with our doll house furniture!
I still have a couple of my dolls, and my special kitty who got dressed up in my dolls' clothes!

I have a lot of my son's toys
the first Cabbage Patch Doll and a Spiderman
Being the oldest my toys were all passed on to my sister and brothers so I don't have any of my own except I do think I have a Sound of Music doll packed away

I love the blue truck!!

I will think about continuing Mid Week Blues, I have to decided if I can make the comittment

hugs from me and Hope

1. I had an original Barbie and they were much better than they are today. Much bigger.

2. I don't have any of my childhood toys. I do wish I had that original Barbie though.

3. Biblioklept will be my favorite B word for today.

Have a terrific day. :)

I like your two trucks Jim! Those are probably pretty valuable now. When I was little I had a Chatty Cathy doll and a Posey doll - I still have them! Today - I am sure I have things I like - not sure they are toys. lol sandie

I love that blue truck!

I didn't have toys as a child. Growing up in an orphanage you make do with nature, climb trees, chase cars etc :)

I don't have toys...maybe my computer? :)

Fave B would be biscuits :) Yum!

Happy Thursday Jim!

1) The truth is...I didn't have any toys. Sometimes a piece of chalk to draw hopscotch, but beyond that, there were nothing that I could call my own.
2) I actually have a lot of toys now. the toys I own are electronics, crafty tools, and garden tools.

The blue is very bright...it is a fitting color for that truck.

This is a great blog Jim!

I still have the Madam Alexander doll I got for Christmas when I was six. I will be passing it on to my granddaughter, Emaline, when she is old enough to appreciate it.

I can't remember my toys from childhood other than the shiny bicycle I got one Christmas and only because I have a picture of it and me. My toys were books and I was an avid reader...still am to this day. I call myself a chain reader: as soon as I finish one book I start another.

I love those cars! That top blue is so vivid.

I don't remember too many toys. A Barbie now and then.

My best present ever, though, was a guitar when I was 11. It's been replaced many times over but it was still the best gift a girl could hope for!

Thanks for a fun link to the letter "B".

A+

Thanks for your kind comments on my blog. I am just catching up now. Things are finally falling into place for my daughter's wedding. I love that FORD pedal car. It is very pretty. Lucky for you your cousin wasn't sharing! Your cab was neat too.
